Thanks! I loved seeing the old coasters. Today, in Houston we have NOTHING!... no big amusement park, no big coaster. Why?...no money. Sad, for the kids' sake. I'm glad that I grew up when we had two large amusement parks, during two different time periods.

Riverview Park is the loss that hurts the most for me, for how iconic it was, and for the fact that the owners just randomly decided they didn't want to run it anymore.

Yeah Riverview park is truly tragic. Imagine its coaster collection today if it was able to stick around

@@JNattyBoi Definitely. I'm really curious as to if they would have stayed an independent park or not, if it'd have the same fate as Willow Grove eventually, or if it'd go on to make its own chain of amusement parks.

I had ridden Zingo growing up and loved it, knowing it was a historic coaster. I wasn’t aware that the Wildcat in Frontier City also had such historic value as well, though it’s not surprising. Thanks for the info!

In the 1960's some traditional amusement parks started to emulate the success of Disney Land by adding more modern rides and themed sections such as Cedar Point and Geauga Lake.

I have just found your channel today, 20 May, 2021, and I am thrilled to see your videos. I have been to Riverview in Chicago as a young child and still have vivid memories of that experience almost 70 years ago. Have you ever written about Willow Grove park outside of Philadelphia? There was a Thunderbolt there and it was amazing. This was the park where my grade school had its annual end of year picnic. In 7th grade we were able to get the nuns to ride the Thunderbolt with us. Again, thank you for the great memories!, Ray Moderski.

Thank you so much for the comment, I really enjoyed reading about your experience growing up with Willow Grove park. I haven’t done any videos on that particular park, but there’s a reddit user who has posted a lot about the park recently. Here’s one of their posts if you’re interested: www.reddit.com/r/rollercoasters/comments/mq73sq/trolley_park_tuesday_willow_grove_park_through/?

9:33 And then decades later, with the opening of Space Mountain, Disney did finally have a wild mouse on steroids. Really, watch the immersion killing lights on Space Mountain POVs. It's a freakin' wild mouse.
@JNattyBoi
@JNattyBoi 3 жыл бұрын
Ha! Yeah you're not wrong, it's basically a highly immersive enclosed wild mouse. Come to think of it, Disney also installed Primeval Whirl at Animal Kingdom, so they've definitely reversed their stance on wild mouse coasters

A piece of the dark ages but from one amusement park (Waldameer in Erie PA) in 1938 the park lost their only "Intense" Coaster (Ravine Flyer 1) due to the park's only death and didn't get another one until 2004 with the Mauer coaster called "Steel Dragon" and a few years later "Ravine Flyer 2" Opened up with pretty much the original layout (Station was moved and the Bridge is an airtime hill instead of a dip) Also, Conneaut Lake Park is still around and has a few new rides for the season (Eyerly Octopus, Larson Dizzy Dragon, and a Slide) but Blue Streak is SBNO for 2021 but will most likely reopen in 2022 due to COVID hitting the park badly after a Financial Battle in the 2010s but did lose the Tumble Bug

But from what i've heard, the first and oldest steel coaster is Montaña Suiza at Monte Igueldo, Spain
@JNattyBoi
@JNattyBoi 3 жыл бұрын
According to RCDB they've been building steel coasters since the late 1800's (rcdb.com/r.htm?order=-8&ty=1&ot=2), most are scenic railway-type rides (like Montaña Suiza, which is an amazing looking ride by the way) or tiny kiddie coasters. Many consider Roller Coaster at Hanayashiki to be the first modern, full size steel roller coaster, but it's certainly up for debate

Another bad period was 2005 to 2010, not nearly as bad as this but lots of parks and rides were lost to the Great Recession and $4 a gallon gasoline. Wonder how many parks and coasters we will lose to COVID, 2020 was such a bad year for amusement parks and while things are looking up in the US Europe and Asia are still disasters
