Great hack with protecting your phone if it’s raining, I always use a sandwich bag just incase 👌 agree on your thoughts regarding gels, my only issue would be the cost, for a long run in marathon training, you’d burn through 3 at least I guess, so could get quite expensive. But a nice point 👍

Hi Jack, (Kieran here), I do the same now even though my phone is waterproof. And I'm with you on the cost of the natural gels. I don't tend to use loads and loads in training. For an 18 miler in marathon training I'd probably use 1 or 2 and only maybe have 3-4 runs at that distance. So I think can train for and complete a marathon using maybe 15 gels, certainly no more than a box which is £45. For comparison the RRP for a box of 30 SiS is also £45. And though I do appreciate some natural gels might be priced out of reach of some budgets, I'm a big believer that investing in your own health is the best investment if you're financially able to make the choice. But I get that not everyone is as bothered by all of that as I am. And that's cool too.

Thanks for the reply and yes I see where you’re coming from. I think I’ll try some as only ever used SIS or similar. Suppose if you require more you can always mix in some whole food (raisins etc), never tried this but know some people do this too. Definitely like the idea of a ‘clean’ gel so to speak. Great little series, maybe another one could be you all discussing your favourite races/performances 👍

@@jack_rathborn I often use dates, dried apricots and stuff like that as well. Takes some trial and error to find what you enjoy/doesn't mess with your stomach but I'm now amazed what I can eat on the move. Let us know how you get on if you go down that road. We've been thinking about that races vid for a while too. We've got a few between us! Best of luck with your running Jack.

Really into natural food gels, currently use Huma. Never knew about Vala energy gels, will certainly give them a go. Great video 👍

Thanks Stephen. We've tried and enjoyed Huma too. If you like those we think you'll like Vala.

I use Huma too and they taste fantastic and seem to work for me - the Vala might be worth a try

I used to use huma but use veloforte which are still 100% natural

You mention putting your iPhone XS Max into the inner tights pocket. But can it also fit into the left and right side pockets with plenty of headroom to spare? My phone's quite a bit taller than yours (165 vs 157.5mm) so not sure if those pockets are deep enough. Also looks like there's a new version of the shorts (called "AOSTE H"). Just my comparison notes below: - Replaced the center-back zipper pocket to an all-round stretch mesh waist band (like Naked Running Band and their ilk) divided into 4 compartments. - Replaced the left flap pocket to be zippered now on both sides (which I guess is better for one-handed drop-in ability as opposed to having to open the flap every time). - Shorter inner tight length. Not sure whether they've retained the inner tight pocket as it's not mentioned on the product page (and neither is it mentioned on the older version except in someone's review).

Hi, (Kieran here), so it'll fit in right and left side with approx an inch to spare maybe a bit more on the left. The AOSTE H look like they have a number of different details. The integrated stretch mesh belt pouch being a big difference. That flap pocket always felt like it'd be better as a zip so stuff is secure. The inner shorts look about the same length to me from the photos but hard to say for sure. We'll try and get the in for testing. But looks like some useful upgrades. One note, they come up small. So if you're buying, recommend a size up.

Veloforte gels are food too-also natural. I find all brands really hard to open though. Argh. Will give this brand a go for sure. How is the fibre situation? I always worry about dates. Re flip belt. I have two and love them but..for those women who have more of a waist they can be tricky and bunch up a bit. You need them tight enough to hold things without jumping about but it’s hard to get that just right for pulling over your hips if you have a relatively small waist.

Great series. Do any of you use compression socks or calf guards? I suffer from cramp at the end of long runs (over 20 miles) and wondered if these would help.
@TheRunTesters3 жыл бұрын
I (Tom) have calf issues sometimes so I use compressions socks. I don't think they prevent the issue in any way, but they do help relieve some pain when running.
@johnmiller56303 жыл бұрын
@@TheRunTesters interesting, I’ve used compression socks and agree they help manage the pain, wondered whether calf guards effectively do the same thing. Thanks for responding Tom, really like what you guys are doing.

What size did you order the Flipbelt zipper in? (what waist size are you usually also?) thanks!
@61js4 жыл бұрын
Hey Kieran you say you're going up to a large on the shorts, what waist are you for sizing reference, if you you don't mind me asking. They're on for £37 at the moment on their site
