We have everything but the potty! We usually walk down the road to his potty spot that way he gets some energy and practice and also gets empty before we go out!

I dropped a pill accidentally and my service dog in training looked at me and didn’t eat it,still working on loose leash walking as I have ignored that factor,depending on where we are I let her lay down one her own or I direct her to the spot I would like her to be,she will just stand and wait,has shown no sign of stress and is on a schedule of using the bathroom but I do give her a chance to go before we go into a building

That ability to settle is a temperament thing, I think. There is a variable there that you can capitalize on and expand on but you are not going to be able to exceed inherent genetic capability..

Settle/relax can absolutely be taught! You are correct that there are different levels of awareness and comfort in individuals. For example we choose a terrier for a hearing dog as they tend to be more "get up and go" and faster to alert than a calm golden. Some dogs will be able to actually rest, while others will be on some level of alert at all times. A service dog should, however, be able to actually relax while working or he's not going to be able to sustain an 8 hour work day, even if he's laying waiting for an alert to be needed.
