tbh I noticed the issues with the ratling guns but they are probably the most fun unit next to Jezzails when they actually get to shoot. RATATATATAT

If you are having trouble getting them to shoot you can try to employ a strategy I learned from Shogun 2's arquebus units. You can make your frontline of infantry alternating between the melee and the gunners and once you have them lined up drag the gunners back. They will shoot through the gap and the infantry will still be able to protect them when/if infantry closes. Downsides to this in Warhammer infantry can just not give a damn and walk past your infantry even if you try and snag them by attacking them and cavalry of course. The entire formation is both very large and very static.

​@@SirNaraxthis works very well with warpfire throwers too. Since they are a more compact unit, the gap can also be smaller, providing more protection.

So I want to point out that Jezzails are fantastic lord snipers, and great against ranged units, or something that you want to soften up or take out before it even reaches your front line. Their armor pen means they are fantastic at taking out things like, say, iron drakes. They're also useful against monsters. I once snipes a paladin out of the sky as he was bee-lining towards my rattling gunners. Honestly, they are one of my favorite units and I always have a few in my army

Yeah, they are great, they won't rack unholy amounts of kills likes ratlings guns, but they will always maul if not tear apart big scary big single monster entities or lords. And elites troops like grail knights will also beat quite beaten up if you can focus fire them with jezzails.

I kno this is an old video but moving from very hard to legendary difficulty I have been watching your videos to try to learn. A video for any faction talking about army comps and strats for early, mid, and late game would be greatly appreciated. Thanks btw you have helped me a lot with learning how to play skaven.

When your economy allows, it's recommended to get a few units of Stormvermin Halberdiers in your armies. They can do a decent job of holding the line and cause good damage vs large and armored enemies. They overall more useful than the sword and shield variant.

With a mid to late game army, you should find that your summons and lord/hero units can hold the line long enough without needing specialist troops for it. I prefer a Grey Seer (Plague) lord mainly because of the clanrat summons, although the ability to summon Stormvermin in a pinch can help sometimes. The fact they aren't bad in melee once they're in their Bell doesn't hurt either. The Packmaster combos well with that kind of army since they can summon wolf rats without depleting the mana pool. Factor in a few Menace Below and that's a lot of disposable troops you can call on in each battle. And since you aren't using slots in your army for mainly defensive troops, that leaves more space for attackers. All that said, sometimes having one or two units of Warp Grinders can be handy for fixing enemies into place and giving Skaven ranged units a bit more time to finish them off. That tactic works best if you're Clan Skryre and have upgraded them a couple of times in the Forbidden Workshop.

if you play sniktch campaign and get assasins den at lvl1 you can just build x4 in kunlan province for the +16assassins level, another +3 for contract loopholes and a bell and you cranking out lvl24 immortal assins in no time, ive legit decimated 20stack legendary lords with skavenslaves by the time they get near me on campaign map, its slaughter...

Early campaign (round 1-5) i would never recruit Skavenslave infantry when Skavenslave Slingers are so much more usefull. Their low leadership isn't an issue because they have the speed to outrun most early infantry. If you are good at micromanaging, your slinger army can dish out decent damage without taking a single loss. But by round 5 at the latest you should be able to recruit Warpfire throwers, catapults and Ratling guns. A few turns later Jezzails and Mortars. And with a little bit of luck you should have capacity for 2 Plague priests at least. As soon as you have 2 magic users who can summon up to 7 cannonfodder infantry units each in your army, you should literally never recruit anything except weapon teams, unless you play Throt. I genuinely can not comprehend why people would ever recruit shit like Stormvermin. Don't bring Halberds to a gunfight.
