Oh.... and I would love to see a video on homeschooling high school with a minimalist approach? Regarding grades, credits, and transcripts.

I had the same question as Nightcap, and saw your reply and went to the post. Do you have a video or post about what you are actually using for every subject?

We are using the curriculum I’m releasing this year (which uses The Good & The Beautiful history as a spine (option 1 of 2 for history in Lamp + Light). Our science is our Lamp + Light plus my high schooler using MasterBooks. You can see majority of our materials in this video : kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKaqY36ootmAmbM

This is everything! My middle daughter is dyslexic and we are starting level 3 in 5th grade as well! I totally get the tears and pace you have to take with dyslexic kiddos. I am so glad to find this review!!! Thank you!!!

I’m really interested in this curriculum for my 8th grader. We’re currently using TGTB. What made you switch over for high school LA?

Thanks for this review! I have had this sitting on my shelf for two years and hadn’t used it. I purchased your curriculum yesterday and will definitely add this to it for my sixth and ninth graders. Thanks so much

Thank you for the tip about Essentials in Writing's great CS! My son GETS grammar, but writing is SO hard for him. I will have to chat with their CS to figure out which level is going to be best fit for him. We used level 1 last Fall with him and his brother and it was a great fit, then we decided to try TGTB, but he needs something more structured and laid out for the writing instruction

My 5th grader is dyslexic and has a tremendously hard time with spelling. Did your child struggle with spelling? If so, how did you overcome that using this writing curriculum?
@SaltyTribeCo Жыл бұрын
I let my daughter misspell it and now that she’s in high school we focus a lot more on spelling and writing for college. We took it SUPER SUPER slow and it turns out that is what worked best no matter what curricula we used. Anytime she misspells, I just correct it and show her so she can try to learn it. We also have made them spelling words to give her confidence. 💗

Hi, thanks for this video. You mention Brave Writer in the description. Are you referring to the Brave Writer program? I see that BW has a "mechanics of writing" component to their curriculum and I'm wondering if it would not be enough for my severely dyslexic 4th grader.

you can always try it out! Julie makes amazing products over at Brave Writer!

This is exactly how it’s been with my daughter and I these past few years. I suspect she’s mildly dyslexic and has CAPD which influences her memory. She’s also artsy and right brained. Thank you for sharing ❤️

Hi, are u still using eiw?
@S.Patierno3 жыл бұрын
Realize this is from two years ago but wondered are your girls still using this curriculum and if so hows it worked out?
@SaltyTribeCo3 жыл бұрын
We used it for one year. My eldest enjoyed it but is a natural writer so she uses only our curriculum [I create homeschool curriculum] and our next daughter also uses our own curriculum [we do a Charlotte Mason approach]. This helped her a LOT to get some structure to her sentences and one year was enough to learn the basics to boost her writing. I absolutely love this product for sure! It's well made, lessons aren't terribly long and the video instruction is super helpful! If we weren't using my own curriculum, I would absolutely use it again!

Is this all you use for a language arts program or do you supplement as well? I think my son would really enjoy doing this.
@SaltyTribeCo6 жыл бұрын
So with my eldest she does EIW and our Lamp + Light Curriculum [which is coming out this summer]. She does EIL every once in awhile, for fun and kind of an elective. My middle kiddo does EIW plus our Lamp + Light Curriculum. My youngest is almost 7. He just does Lamp + Light.

In your opinion, do you feel as though an additional supplement for grammar is necessary for a 4/5th grader? We were thinking of buying this an saxon or this and Jag?
@SaltyTribeCo4 жыл бұрын
I don’t think a supplement is needed at all for this. We always have a grammar guide book on hand but one year with this was enough for my kids. They grasped the concept quickly and we moved on. 🙌🏽

I'm having a hard time choosing a literature / writing program for my child who also has dyslexia. Can you tell me why it would be more beneficial to get the IEW version that you use, verses the Good and the Beautiful language arts and literature. What made you decide that your choice was better for her?. I am so grateful to Mary for your knowledge. My prayers have led me to you. Praise God !!
@SaltyTribeCo4 жыл бұрын
It was just simple and short lessons with IEW. we only used it this one year (waaaay back when I filmed this) and that was all she needed. The best help for her was reading books and audiobooks (follow along)

Hey! We actually do this with our Lamp + Light Curriculum (being released this year) My eldest finished g&b level 7. My younger two use just the readers from g&b.

This may sound like a silly question but if my almost 3rd grade daughter is not dyslexic or doesn’t have any other learning disabilities, is this still a writing program you would recommend? She’s a very strong student all around but we’ve struggled to find a good writing program.
@SaltyTribeCo5 жыл бұрын
YES! My eldest isn't dyslexic and doesn't have any learning disabilities and she uses it! She likes it because it's simple, no frills and easy to understand.
@AG-ze7yb5 жыл бұрын
How many times during the week do you use this? Or do you use it daily?
@SaltyTribeCo5 жыл бұрын
We use it 2-3 times per week along with our Lamp + Light Homeschool Curriculum.
@AG-ze7yb5 жыл бұрын
SaltyTribeCo , ok! I’m starting your curriculum after 2 years of seeing your KZbin and following your page. I was just noticing that EIW is not scheduled in your volume 1 so I was wondering how to incorporate it.
@NattyBirthMama6 жыл бұрын
Can I ask why you stopped using The Good and The Beautiful?
SaltyTribeCo can I ask how you compare the G&B writing to EIW? My 7th grader is a struggling writer so I’m unsure what I want to use. I have G&B level 4 for him but the writing has me worried.
@SaltyTribeCo6 жыл бұрын
They're super different to me. G&B has lots of various topics that you get to explore and EIW is JUST writing and grammar. The lessons are short in EIW and my kids love the short video instruction. We do a charlotte mason approach to language arts and only use EIW for our dyslexic child and our high schooler that starts college next year summer.

It's hard to understand what you're saying in a lot of this video with how fast and low you're talking. I see there's a transcript, but it's so much easier and faster if I can just understand the words spoken in the video. I know I can turn on captions too, but often captions are inaccurate. Just letting you know for future reference.
@SaltyTribeCo Жыл бұрын
Sorry about that! I am a natural fast talker, also autistic so it kind of makes video recording a nightmare lol. I’m working on it. Haven’t filmed many videos since my youngest child passed away in 2021 but maybe in 2024 I’ll post more videos and remember to sloooow it down. Have you tried slowing the speed playback? I have used it the speed up videos where people talk to slow for me to comprehend. Not sure if it’ll work, just throwing that out there just in case. 💗
