As someone who started as a kid, it's honestly scary how fast an adult who's never played tennis before can progress. I started coaching my girlfriend a few months ago and she could hit a decent forehand and maintain a (slow) rally inside two weeks.

Thank you!!!!! Love this video. I loved Meg's explanation. In the slow motion, I see your forehand swings - the weight shifts from the right to left leg. I used to have trouble with this and realized - whichever side I'm swinging from is the dominant leg with the weight before the shot and then after the coil, I end up on the opposite leg. Tennis is about weight shifting and rocking between the two legs too.

FINALLY! An absolutely great description of where to toss the ball on the serve, complete with an on screen graphic. Only thing missing is a side angle with an accompanying graphic showing the toss depth into the court (hey, now I'm nitpicking). Love all your lessons. So for that secret lesson at the end - I have trouble with different grips and keeping the racquet face flat. A semi Western for example is designed to tilt the racquet face down. Despite what grips you choose, do you have to always have a flat facing racket at contact? Does the grip only affect how you brush the ball then in the rainbow up motion? That's been my biggest confusion in tennis so far! Is racquet grip only for ball spin type? Thanks

On groundstrokes the racquet face should almost always be very close to flat at contact, Sana. The main benefit to different grips is they allow for different swing paths more or less easily....you were correct! -Ian
