This hit pretty hard. As a kid I was "diagnosed" with ADHD. I was given Ritalin as a kid. My father told me he only allowed it for two days because he didn't like that I wasn't acting like a kid anymore, but what he didn't know was that my mother kept giving me Ritalin just so I would sit down and shut up. He said that when I was taking the Ritalin, I didn't want to run around and play. I just sat on the couch and spaced off or stared at the TV for hours. One things for sure, I will never do the same when I have children.

@MNMNT_OG
@MNMNT_OG 3 жыл бұрын
The reason why I become more and more antisocial is because society feels completely fake and just weirds me out. People say they don't want to be reduced to their looks, but all they present to the outside are their looks. People say they want true and meaningful conversations, but can't even take the slightest form of negativity or criticism cause it shatters their shallow and weak happiness. They say love and respect everyone but treat people that don't follow the norm like outcasts. They are sending completely opposing signals to everyone out there, while still expecting to be understood and respected. I'm in my mid 20s and I can literally feel how I become dumber and dumber the more time I spend with what you would call the average young adult. They all seem to be interested in having a good time, live and let live, positivity and I just feel alienated and don't understand their mindset. It's like I'm an old soul in a society of newborn. Edit: Many people pointed out that this is not antisocial behaviour. I don't delete the comment because even if it's not the same topic, many of you can relate and feel similar. It's been a long time since I wrote this, many things changed and some stayed the same. Hopefully it all works out in the end. God bless you.

I remember that as a kid despite being a little bit shy I was sociable and had no problems talking and understanding others but years of bullying, ostracism Ande parental problems lead me to develop some anti social behavior(I became also less social) as I am very angry at those who treated me unfairly. Ironically those who said that the antisocial people are dangerous, are the one who created them with their own antisocial behavior.

I get messed with a lot but the people who would dislike me on sight are extremely easy to become friendly by you being friendly first, then you really gotta leave because they'll 'latch on' (no shame tho, we all do it), but if you have no energy just dip, if you feel like expressing you anger and fighting, sometimes do it, but you really gotta work (it's bad but I believe everybody needs a variety of experiences at least once, not everything tho, accidents are not good)

Teaching kids to fight is the solution to this problem. Young boys are pacified and taught to tell an adult and the adults don’t do Jack shit. The teachers let the problem continue when if the kid just punched his bully straight in his jaw as hard as he can I bet they’ll think twice and everyone will respect you more, at the very least they’ll leave you the fuck alone

I remember as a child care worker, we had one woman come in to speak to us about how to engage children. And she talked about ADD. I remember her saying, "You know drugs don't work. The best thing you can do is go up to that kid and tell him to go up the stairs, to the office, and fetch the paper. So he goes running up the stairs as fast as he could, comes back down. Then you say, 'Oh, did you get the pens?' Then he goes right back up the stairs to grab the pens." Because one thing I found with ADD kids, particularly boys, is that they just love to prove themselves. They have to prove they're the fastest. Or that they can draw the best. Or they can do things. And if you give them these small tasks, that they can reasonably do with their attention span, they won't let you down. Not normally at least.

this makes me think I have ADD because that was exactly me as a kid. Always needed to prove something to anyone, competitive as fuck and strived to be the better than anyone in anything(still happens now but on smaller scale). Is this an identifier of ADD or can it be that i don't have it? Never been diagnosed and I'm so happy for that, my parents would just let me be this crazy ass kid.

Weve carried on most traditions through time because they work
@artistry7919
@artistry7919 3 жыл бұрын
@@alexhoppe6214 Actually, tradition is mostly carried through time because of the fear of the unknown. And, what does it mean to "work"? That it works well enough for the survival of our species? Or that it brings a healthy society? Congrats, tradition, you didn't make us extinct. But is it the best? Is it even good? Well, that's from tradition to tradition, as arguing if 'tradition' is good or bad is an overgeneralization. But tradition mostly continued through time because we didn't really think about it. We simply tend to repeat what was taught to us, even if it's unnecessarily cruel, stupid, hurtful, at times even hateful and destructive, working against a healthy society, simply because we didn't really think about it. It's not that it worked, it's that we didn't know any better. With the spread of education and information in the last century, tradition is finally being put as something to question, and so we will get the actual answer to the question we never even bothered to ask, but always assumed the answer. Does it actually work?

Just checking in here. I'm considered a leftist. I don't even listen to J.P. I always thought that conservatism is the will to keep things that reason and experience proved useful or beautiful. I never found peace by constantly seeking new things. Hardcore progressism is an agitated state, it really is exhausting. I like the modern individuality of being able to make choices for myself, but at the same time, I find some peace in living by standards that thousands of years of humanity bequeathed us. Anyway, progressist or conservatives we all have to deal with the same existential crisis. We should recognize that and care for each other. Love ya kings.

researchers consistently fail to address the magnitude of this issue. People ultimately need love and validation. When a man doesn't matter to a woman, when she doesn't gaze at him with a loving smile, tell him she wants him/needs him, that he matters to her. A lot of guys have never had that. This will cause disillusionment/isolation/soul sadness and mental health issues in men. No amount of material things, por* will be able to replace that. The problem in the west is 2 fold. Incels can't get a woman and the ones that do get one, end up in divorce/breaking up or being cheated on and losing more than the lady. So they swear off relationships and end up lonely all the same. (Mgtow) Both have the effect of creating lonely, angry, atomised ppl and broken society with plummeting birth rates. And can spell the end of that society. What are we seeing in the west now? Falling sperm counts, falling testosterone levels, births, marriage, and a rapidly ageing society, with catastrophic debt levels. White ppl used to have close family bonds but now they no longer keep ties with family and send old ppl to homes. Jobs for life are a thing of the past, from where they used to form friends. White ppl lost their matchmaking culture and used to marry form within their own tried and tested social circle. With all that now gone, internet dating and cold approaching/PUA random women that u know nothing about is the way. Which can be toxic.

As an individual who was born into a home of chaos and abuse, I can say with absolute certainty that J Pete's is right. Around 4 years old I had seen so much hatred and fighting between my parents that I believed people who love eachother hurt eachother. It was hard to make friends because I thought you were supposed to yell and hit your loved ones. Time passed and around 4th grade I started getting bullied by older kids. They would punch me and push me, one time they threw me down a rocky hill into a thorn bush and laughed at me. But I just kept going back to them everyday because I believed they were my friends. Time passed and I started smoking weed in 7th grade, which made me close myself off from the world. Eventually I just stopped communicating, I could speak but I didnt communicate. 8 years later and I'm a recovering addict with a criminal history. Moral of the story, dont let your shitty personality get in the way of raising a kid. Bless up everyone

Same and guess what, you're not alone man. I'm so emotionally detached I can't even express how I feel sometimes. String of family neglect and verbal abuse from the beginning, I'm just trying to break the cycle. It's tough not being able to keep relationships or friendships even though the capability is there, I just lack the emotional self esteem part despite my intelligence. Even though I look good 6 pack and everything, confidence is my biggest downfall. all you can do now is do things the right way when you have kids. Even though you may not want one, just don't be like our parents.. I know damn well I'm going to try my best not to have my kid end up like me If I ever do have one. Life can be so enjoyable I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy to grow up angry, addicted and perusing violence as a way out.

@@fishmoneybagz_ God loves you man, I grew up verbally abused as well being told to kill myself repeatedly. I called on Jesus before I was gonna end my life in my car and he revealed himself to me. A physical weight lifted out of me and I never wanted to commit suicide after that. Call on Jesus man he died for your sins and he will save you from them. He can give you peace and heal your wounds inside and make you feel alive again. If we ask him to forgive our sins and repent (turn away) we can be forgiven. Our sin separates us from God but Jesus died to restore you and give you his spirit so you can have perfect connection with him. His death is what we deserved but he removed Gods wrath away from us and put it on himself. He took our punish and paid for our sin if you place your faith in him and ask him to forgive you and to save you. After you put your faith in Jesus that he died for your sins go get baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Acts 2:38 John 3 Being born again is when God makes you a completely new creation with the Holy Spirit and makes the old pass away, no longer do you carry the weight of sin. He gives you freedom. He can heal depression anxiety and everything. I encourage you to read the four Gospels Mathew Mark Luke & John. After you give your life to Jesus continue to study the Bible and pray daily. He can walk you through your pain and give you strength when you have zero. He’s been healing me and now I’m completely off bipolar meds.

The problem I experienced with school sports as a child was that I was very good at most of them and pushed by overly competitive adults to formulate hatred for the opposing teammates, who were neighborhood friends on the other side of the road that divided the school districts. This was in the late 70s, skateboarding was just emerging, so I dropped out of organized sports in high school and put all of my energy into skating... and eventually skateboarding became as competitive and organized as standard sports. I totally understand how competition is a driver for people to succeed, but if it is ingrained at an early age that the other team is an enemy, then we're just training psychopaths.

When I started school, I was constantly bullied and beaten just because I was socially awkward. I got bullied, harassed and smacked at every school I went to, just because I kept missing social cues or misinterpreting body language. Now, at the age of 30, I hardly ever leave my apartment, I genuinely believe that 90% of humans are pure evil, and I have to smoke weed everyday because if I don't I can't stop fantasizing about killing people.

I used to get bullied back in my school days a lot (Like at second to 5th grade) and it was at that time where I started to stay at home most of the time and play alone for example, as I couldn't trust anyone in the fear of getting bullied again. After this finally faded away and those people and I went seperate ways, I remained to be the same person that I was back then. I haven't really put much thought into it, nor have I talked to anyone about it. At the age of 17 I suddenly fell into deep depressions and just wanted everything to stop, as I felt very lonely and no one understood me. That's when I put thought into my past again, and realized that I got this fucked up due to my past. I tried talking to my parents about it aswell, but they just told me to get over it already. Like "Why are you still clinging to these things from the past?", they asked. Now I am 19 years old, I am still pretty antisocial since I don't feel like doing things with people I pretend to like. Even texting is too hard for me, which causes these people to think that I am not interested in them. But I am, it's just that I don't want to bother them (Weird to explain..). I just lost overall interest in everything. I spend most of my time on my PC, browsing the internet without any real purpose or destination. Just wanting to waste my time somehow. My speech skills aren't as great aswell. While I am able to hold a proper conversation with people I don't know, I am still very very anxious about it, cause I'm afraid of getting judged for every move I make. Even though I tell myself that I shouldn't give so much thought about other people, and focus on myself. It's like I have an evil goblin sitting in my head, telling me nothing but bad things to make me feel bad about myself and that I'm not deserving of any good that comes towards me.

@@randomfactsthatdontmatter3466 Dr Edgie dedicated extra time to learning additional knowledge and was euphemistic in their comment about their past educational experience. You would probably agree that people are born with brains that process information at different rates and abilities, and chance also plays a part in the individual's physical competencies. Perhaps you would accept that the quality of the environment, genetics, nurturing, and nutrition impact the outcomes for a person. There may be people like you who survived on a deserted island without parents and other humans to contribute to their development, relying on an abandoned library as their only resource. Most of us had others around to contribute to our development, and I am not saying that the formal education we received was perfect. Still, on balance, it has contributed to society, and education standards and methods need to improve. If we can read, thank our teachers, or in your unique situation, you can acknowledge the librarians who left you the tools to learn. The rest of us can thank our parents and others who contributed to our lives.

Development of aggression & criminality it's mostly tied to intergenerational habits/traumas/neglect & early neurodevelopment, & inadequate self-regulation. Look up rates of child abuse, neglect, intimate-partner violence... Is corporal punishment legal in your country? Is there sensationalisation of violence in your culture? What about laws against coercive control? What about how much time & resources families have for their children in early life? How about funding & support of education systems? Accessibility of pediatricians, diet. JP is useless for properly contextualizing why these statistics manifest. It's individual. Far more nuanced. It's not the teacher's fault. Not just the parents' fault due to slipping through cracks. Consider the CDC has huge programmes to read for countries to implement targeting/reducing/managing/preventing Ace's (Adverse Childhood Experiences). And that it's mandatory to act on what's known to help protect kids if it's known. So what's going on in Canada? We're "so civilized & polite." A murder of a female by her male intimate partner occurrs in Canada every 6 days... Quebec has one of the worst rates. Consider, 1 death/6 days: • doesn't count aborted/failed attempts (puts the rate at every other day, basically) On top of that: • doesn't count different gender variations of the intimate partners • doesn't count "missing," or those murders deemed accidents due to cover-up • doesn't factor in the vicarious trauma, abuse & neglect of kids in these situations In Canada: • Corporal punishment = legal • Laws against coercive control = just barely being considered in some areas • Supports for the most vulnerable (a noted component of something that is "protective against" this violence) have massively decreased in the past 30yrs • Our non-reformative prison system, plus it's overcrowded & bad criminals get let out again fast -- Police budgets keep growing but they're never targeting "prevention" enough for the real root (because then how would they get budget increases?) • Our more individualistic society (particularly among C/conservatives) is more interested in ignoring the way the country could maximize human capital, by wanting to focus on maximizing individual capital at expense of those under them... Ignorant of statistics, the fluidity of things, & how proper support/infrastructure for everyone is an investment with a payoff many times beyond the initial investment... Which improves everything for everyone. Look at Alberta right now, demanding pay cuts from Doctors, gutting education... Letting COVID relief $ default to their party's debt at cost of taxpayers' lives & pretending it's because of smart investments (they paid down debt nearly double what they thought they would, during a pandemic no less -- fishy). We need to value community. It takes a village. We need warmer hearts, broader cultures. JP just contributed nothing useful or valid that common sense wouldn't tell you. The real nitty gritties... Well if you think JP is groundbreaking, you're not as educated as you think. And it's sad

But to neglect all other people off by default is kinda selfdestructive in the long run. Yes you will always find people who are untrustworthy but you will meet people who are worth trusting. maybe lower % then the untrustworthy but the fact is there are people out there. if you don't agree with this you also state you aren't trustworthy aswell.

Yes, and those people aren't necessarily introverts either. Mostly, they're extroverts that are perfectly capable of engaging in social activities. They're just selfish, abusive, manipulative and blunt(which is due to their lack of empathy) In most cases, they're sociopaths(developed) and psychopaths(genetic). However, some highly functioning autistic people also have the same lack of empathy. In any case, these people are extremely hard to spot as they never let you find out their true intent. The reason why antisocial people are actively AGAINST the society unlike asocial people is primarily because of the difference in their thoughts& feelings. Because they don't have moral values as opposed to the society. They certainly find the concept of common sense utterly absurd. They're well aware that laws are also human-made.

They're likely to be very frustrated when something doesn't go their way, or they can't get what they want. But antisocial people have more logical ways of coping. They might also use violence, anger and alike(if they're sociopaths) but they definitely won't cry around for being unable to get what they want, unlike rich kids. Antisocial people too would probably be annoyed by how rich kids complain all the time. Psychopaths fall into the neither category. Because they're BORN that way. Very straightforward. Neither traumatized, nor spoilt. Just robotic.

My parents were of the opinion that children should be seen & not heard. Mom, in particular, never liked loudness around the house. She always said it upset her nerves. When my parents discovered that I might have an attention disorder, they also discovered that whereas insurance would cover the cost of medication, it WOULD NOT cover the cost to have me tested. Dad's job didn't pay enough for expensive things. They ALSO believed that my condition could be alleviated if I would just buckle down & STUDY HARDER -- that some EXTRA EFFORT would produce those A's. In the meantime I had NO IDEA that it wasn't ALL MY FAULT. I blamed myself for not TRYING HARDER, & often felt like I was the member of the family that might get hidden up in the attic. I'm a parent with a 8 year old diagnosed with ADHD. What advice would you give as some one who experienced it growing up? He's not allowed to rough house inside but him and his brother can rough house and be crazy anytime they want outside... We ended up pulling him out of school for disruptive behavior such as flipping desks in class. He's never had issues behaving at home, for example he once flipped a desk because the teacher asked him to sit down in class. At home I can ask him to sit down, do his homework and do his chores, sweeping, etc and he is perfectly happy to do his work and chores. He is being home schooled in a program designed for children with ADHD which helps. He's also allowed to rough house, etc outside in the yard with his brother as much as he wants just not indoors. As far as drugs go I'm against using drugs to control his ADHD since it's relatively easy to control at home through low carb diet. however at school he was off the walls. I've also questioned doctors about ADHD drugs and some of them can affect brain development permanently.

What he is saying can also be the result of severe discipline as i know from personal experience. If you lock a child in the house there entire young life and torment them, they to will see every face as an enemy or lieing.

And then people get surprised that desperate men lose their mind and join gangs, become terrorist or other types of criminals, commit shootings and so on. Those men have been told their entire life, that they're pretty much the source of all evil. Do you expect them, to not take something like that personal? And then they put them on Anti-depressants and SSRI's, like the OP pointed out, which can seriously fuck up someones brain. But you know, whenever such a tragedy occurs, where some guy kills tons of people, no one is allowed to question the Anti-male system, or the dangerous precise with those meds. No, those people just do that, because they're douchbags, because they had nothing better to do at that moment, because they have been playing too much video games and whatever scapegoat they feel like throwing in.

So many people here who don’t understand what antisocial behavior means in the clinical sense. You can be an extreme extrovert and still be anti social. The term basically means anything that someone does that is against the greater good of society - such as violence, lying, manipulating etc.. Therefore just because you’re kind of awkward and don’t like going out doesn’t make you antisocial at all

I was severely behaviorally dysfunctional from ages 3 to 6 from complications from my 1st brain surgery. What Dr. Peterson talks about in the last 2 minutes of this video reminds me of what I recently learned from Piaget's developmental models: children from ages 3 to 5 start their social lives through group play; every year beyond age 5 is a continuation of this social learning process. I've since wondered: has my social confusion (let alone anxiety) stemmed from lacking social acceptance in this initial friend-making phase?

They show no fear of authority at all. They are extremely self serving and focused. Never have seen anything like it before in my life. Yes, learned it in psych and child development class. If certain behaviors are not learned and taught before or by age five, their will be trouble. I am glad he mentions how that includes appropriate social conduct. These skills should develope naturally in a child by age five, with the right guidance, unless there are some developmental factors that interfere with the natural stages of development, including inappropriate parenting, and environmental factors. Example, being raised by anti-social parents. He's right. It works. I like how he emphasizes how important appropriate social skill are in life. Not having social skills severely stifles one's life. A person may have talent/skill, but can't move forward due to anti-social behaviors. Very nice observations.

My answer, and being consistent with Peterson, is that the games we play that improve social development would not last long, and we would have to keep moving from place to place to sustain that value.

Set goals and fulfill them I guess, it’s the only way I could see for someone with social anxiety, which I had until I performed on stage a few times and loved the feeling; *Go buy a specific burrito/bowl from Chipotle or subway sub that is overtly complicated. *Ask questions about the menu at a sit down restaurant, and what the waiter/waitress likes from there personally. *People other than you feel lonely, say hi, comment on the weather or ask the time to random people. *Tinder *Strike up a conversation.

Tbh I've been anti-social for as long as I can remember. My parents had a turbulent divorce in my early childhood, which led to a lot of residual psychological problems I contend with today, at 28. I served in the military, worked many other jobs, and am now back in college for IT. One thing that angers me isn't the fact that I'm anti-social, its when people think I'm dangerous because of it. My family gives me dirty looks, and speak ill about me behind my back, despite me never doing anything to wrong them. Everyone thinks I'm strange, which I'm okay with, but I'm not dangerous. I've never been angry at anyone because they won't accept me. I don't want people to. It wouldn't be genuine if anyone came to me and tried to yank me out of my world. Sometimes there are people that can't be saved. I've accepted the reality that I will never love anyone past the platonic level. My life is worse off for it, but I could be alot worse off still. I think the difference between this sob story and being an incel is the acceptance to what you are. Everyone tries to play the victim card. I'd rather live out the consequences of my personality. I can't rectify myself, so help me I have tried. Call me a nihilist, but I've seen much worse off people than myself.
