You've done well with the comparisons here doc, we haven't even heard from the reps but have been selling this for a few months. When it comes to the residual tint when indoors we like to call it "taking the edge off" and it gets around most peoples hesitation.
@DoctorEyeHealth3 жыл бұрын
Ah! that is a good way to say it! I find it very subtle and always expected it to be darker. If anything I am impressed by how clear the lenses are indoors.

@@DoctorEyeHealth good for wathing tv? to take the edge off for light sensitive eyes? are the polarised any good for that or not recommended for tv? thanks
@tiggy4591 Жыл бұрын
@@darrenelkins5923 Its been 3 months, so I don't know if you are still searching for an answer. Transitions XTRActive Polarized are not supposed to have the polarized effect when not exposed to UV rays. Which should make them fine for watching TV. Though if they some residual polarization, you will get varying brightness of your screen as your head tilts. Though this will likely impact using your smartphone(if you have one) outdoors.

I'm now on my 3rd pair of Xtractive lenses, I highly prefer them over the original. I never liked clipping sunglasses over mine, often touching the lens and making smears. I feel that mine are very clear (untinted) while indoors and I'm happy with that as well.

The Transitions Drivewear speciality lens was what people in the past bought specifically for driving bur the new XtrActive for the first offers a photochromic solution people can now wear anywhere. Its a perfect all round line and I think if it would get a little darker it would be spot on for most people but it still does the job. I have dedicated sunglasses but they’re good to have when you forget them and when I bought mine last year I was happy with the product. Essilor’s lenses are highly regarded.

How do you like the lenses?

I have just ordered a pair of progressive prescription glasses with Transitions Xtractive Polarised lenses. Also getting anti glare coating. I am sick of having to switch from regular glasses to sunglasses when out & about, so I have my fingers crossed that my new glasses will replace both of my old glasses. Average summer temperatures in the Gold Coast, Queensland Australia are around 28 degrees C (82 degrees F), so it will be interesting to see how dark these glasses get at higher temperatures. Can't wait to get my hands on my new glasses! Follow Up: Well, it took just a week from the order date to get the glasses! Only picked them up a couple of days ago & the weather has been very overcast, windy with lots of rain on the first day. Today is much better with bright sunshine, some clouds & about 27 degrees C. The actual changes in lens darkness, going from indoors to outdoors is not really noticeable from the wearer's point of view (Of course, our eyes compensate for brightness changes automatically, within limits). Same applies going from outside to indoors. This, in my opinion is the way it should be, unobtrusive technology! My new glasses, compared to my 12 month old prescription clear, anti glare coated glasses, have more contrast (yielding more detail/sharpness in bright scenes) & also more color saturation. This reminds me of the difference between a photo straight out of a camera side by side with the same photo that has been processed in Photoshop (with increased contrast, saturation & sharpening). So far, I am happy with new Transitions Xtracive polarised glasses. I still prefer my old clear glasses , when indoors & especially when working on the computer.

Glad I saw this video about the Xtractive Transitions as I am about to order a new pair of glasses. As a [very] long time wearer of photocromic glasses I can confirm that once you are used to wearing them you don't notice the change in light to dark and back again, photochromic glasses have always had the light tint when clear, again not noticeable Today I tested 4 pair of photochromic glasses with the modern plastic lens against and old pair from the mid 90s with glass lens, the glass lens went darker
@markoshun2 жыл бұрын
Great info, thanks. My request would be opposite, for custom option for ‘less’ dark. I rarely need full dark sunglasses. A level 2 would probably suit me best and have the added advantage of a quicker response time, which is more important to me for regular day to day, in and out of cars and buildings working, etc., and in sun and cloud.

Good video. You mentioned XtraActive Polarized lenses in the beginning but you never commented on how good the polarization was in comparison to typical polarized glasses. From your quick showing in the video, it appears to confirm my experience that the XtraActive Polarized lenses are woefully poor at polarization. A typical polarized lens would have made the laptop screen completely dark. The added expense to make XtraActive Polarized, seems like a non starter. Thoughts?

Mine were ordered yesterday. My old pair are dark-tinted all the time (permanent). They are great; however, for driving at night, it is difficult to see clearly as everything around me is darker. Hopefully, the new pair will help with that. Also, I like that the new one has a polarizing filter built into them, which will help with light glare and reflection. Hate driving a low vehicle (sedan) while everyone is blaring their high beam on their SUV into my face.

Update? How do you like the Xtravtive ones? I got glasses for the first time in my life, they came with Gen8 and they are terrible as sunglasses. Hoping to order Xtractive so I can wear them inside and as sunglasses. Do they work well?
@GothicDragonX Жыл бұрын
@@mguti179 Yes, I really like the Xtractive glasses. They definitely get darker than the Gen8 lenses. Outdoors, they can pass as sunglasses and remain dark for a few minutes even when I'm indoors (around 5 minutes or so). However, it's important to note that they don't get as dark as dedicated sunglasses. To give you an idea, they are similar to having 20% tinted car windows from someone trying to look inside. When I look through them, it feels like a 50% to 60% tint from my point of view. They are not as dark as dedicated sunglasses, but they are darker than the Gen8 transition glasses. Unfortunately, they don't get dark enough when I'm in the vehicle, especially since the windshield already has UV protection. They do darken slightly, giving a smoky grey tone. When I look downward past the glass, I can notice the tint, and it enhances the vibrancy of everything while still reducing brightness and washout. However, they may not be dark enough to fully replace proper sunglasses for a sunny drive, especially if you're highly sensitive to sunlight. For most people, the Xtractive glasses are awesome. If you enjoy walking around town, they work very well as sunglasses. When it comes to driving, they are functional, but personally, I prefer dedicated sunglasses unless you have tinted windows on your vehicle already in that case they are great.

I work for an Essilor optical lab and I've seen the changes in transition lenses over the years and I just got the Progressive XtrActive New Generation lenses. I think the advancement in the technology is awesome. They really transition better than the transition 8 which was geared more towards temperature than light. Usually in the morning when driving east to work and driving west going home from work, I've had had to use my mirrored eyeglasses which has a polarized lens behind it to block the sun's glare. Now, I can rely on my XtrActive lenses to block the glare without having to use my mirrored glasses. The cost is expensive but worth it and as an employee I get one free pair each year and 50% for each additional pair. Also keep in mind your expensive is partly due to your Optometrists' markup.😎🤓

Interesting. I ordered these and I’ll see how they work in NJ and when I go away to Aruba, where temps can be high. Recently when I came with regular prescription sunglasses into a Chinese take-out restaurant I found myself struggling to see the menu and had to search for my regular prescription as I have poor vision. I’m getting older too and need more light to see small print in general. So I’ll have to see how the time-lag of it turning from sunglasses affects me. I can be more patient than some though, even in fast paced NJ, so if it’s waiting a minute longer it’s not that big a deal. But 4-5 mins maybe too long a lag time.

Excellent Doc Please let me know Gray color transition best or Green color transition?
@dannygreene24143 жыл бұрын
The shading for the gray, green or any other is really a personal preference. Also if you work in a job or have a hobby that requires you to work with colors and having them true. I do photography work. Looking for color and tone is important. I do not even use polarized , as it affects what you are seeing. So I use gray, because it is neutral …

Best review I've found, I'm just iffy on buying these because i don't don't want them to look too dark in doors cuz thay can look a little goofy, the slight tint doesn't seem bad though

is Crizal rock anti-reflective on the outside an option on the Transistion XTRActive lenses?
@GreatIaker2 жыл бұрын
Excellent video, thanks. Are Transitions lenses darker in thicker lenses (i.e. stronger prescriptions). My prescription is -8 in one eye and -10 in the other. Opticians have recommended that I not get Transitions lenses because they will be too dark and take too long to lighten up on cold winter days (north of Minnesota). Thank you.

Hello, for years I have had astigmatism. This past November, there was 2 nights i was using the cellphone at night while laying down. Due to that, i believe i made my condition worse. One day in November my eyes felt strained and if i looked down i felt pressure. I also felt pressure on my forehead including top of the bridge of my nose. Days later my eyes calmed down. Later on in December i noticed i have become more sensitive to light. I was putting up Christmas lights when i noticed i was looking at the lights from an angle that i could see the main source of the light was extremely bright. Later on i noticed i am more sensitive to sunlight, reflections from the sun and bright lights that do not have covers. I also started seeing halos around bright lights, especially from cellphone flashlight. I also have gotten more red veins in my eyes. In addition my eyes have felt dryer and when I move them such as looking up sometimes they hurt especially my left eye, like a strained muscle. Did using my cellphone in those couple of nights make my astigmatism worse?
@DoctorEyeHealth3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! Honestly, my first thought was NO this is not related to astigmatism. The pain/ light sensitivity / halos / redness all sounds like an inflammatory issues occurring within the eyes themselves, that, or an issue with the internal eye pressure. I of course cannot give a diagnosis without an examination, but I would suggest seeking care from a local eye care professional. At the very least, just to have them check things. Wishing you the best Omar.

@@DoctorEyeHealth I am going to try to make a appointment for this week. I also noticed that the red veins get agitated easlily, some veins get like a puddle or like a spill. I also forgot to mention, could it be connected to my temples? In late October i woke up with my left temple swollen. Since then it went down but it now looks like veins. Then in November i noticed my right temple looks like it has a vein also but less than the left temple. I think because i have been under alot of stress when i got SVT in August. I also had a throat infection throughout the month of September and October that i probably got in the hospital. I think the stress affected my temples. When i googled swollen or inflammed temples, the thing that kept popping up was temporal arteritis. I am 30 years old, is it possible that i have temporal arteritis due to the stress i started having last year even though it usually affects people over 50? I don’t believe my sight has changed. I think i still see the same amount as i did before the last time i went to the eye doctor which was about 3 yrs ago.. When i go to the eye doctor, will it it be possible for them to determine if i have temporal arteritis?

@@DoctorEyeHealth so I ended up getting 2 glasses. An xtra active brown and an amber gen 8. I like amber more as it gives a sunset view on the world but I also like how xtra active brown gets darker and faster and stays tinted longer when you go back indoors. I’ll use amber on sunny days and xtra active brown on cloudy/gray days. Hopefully they make an xtra active amber one day. I know, I’m picky

Thanks for the information. One question that I have is since they are filtering blue light, do objects that you are looking at that are blue in color appear darker than other things? Also, your frames look very nice. I was wondering what brand they are.

Very informative video. I live in a completely different climate. I live in Albuquerque NM. In the summertime temperatures reach the high 90s-100+. Also the sunlight is very intense usually. How will these temperatures affect the lenses.

How do the xtractive compare to gen s? And does the new gen s perform any better in the car because they’re darker? How are non-polarized for looking at an LCD/OLED screen?

I wonder do the Xtra active mirror lenses solve the car driving issue of needing to be darker (as mirrored lenses do block more light transmission)
@r1r5972 жыл бұрын
I myself personally find that grey mirrored lenses block more sunlight glare than grey polarised lenses :)

I'm very light sensitive too and my main daily problem is room lighting. My office has LED ceiling lights which are horrendously intense and have massive amounts of blue light. I'm wondering do you have an issue with ceiling lights since i believe any glasses that doesn't wrap around your eyes won't be able to guard against stray light coming from above and the sides of the glasses? I'm still looking for a solution and hope you can share how you deal with it.
