El coma es un síndrome, un estado grave de pérdida de consciencia, que reesulta de una gran variedad de condiciones incluyendo las intoxicaciones (drogas, alcohol o tóxicos), paro cardiorrespiratorio, anomalías metabólicas (hipoglucemia, hiperglucemias), enfermedades del sistema nervioso central, ACV, traumatismo cráneo-encefálico, convulsiones e hipoxia.
