This so reminds me of when my husband and I bought our first house. The situation was a little different than yours because no one had lived in the house for many years and it was completely empty. The original owners were farmers and would do canning. The attic was loaded with old mason jars with the lead tops and milk glass. Under the linoleum floors was old news papers from the 40s. We gutted the house to install new wiring, insulation and plumbing. We added a master bedroom with another bathroom. We put new drywall, cabinets, fixtures etc. and we did it all ourselves. Every weeknight after our full time jobs and every weekend. It took us four months to get the house livable. We learned so much! We worked ourselves to death, but in the end it was every bit worth it. The good news also is we sold everything 12 years later and quadrupled our initial investment. Life is such a journey. Just take it all in, you’ll get there! Take care guys!

Miss Marie lived quite the life. So many wonderful things. I would love to see more of the textiles, scarves, rugs, clothes. I hope that a lot of them are salvageable. It makes me so sad to see the state of the house and to think that she lived there, unable to keep it clean. It looks like she tried to be tidy and such, but once you get really weak, there is only so much you can do. Then, if your mind goes.... How are you supposed to take care of yourself. I have no idea of Miss Marie's condiction, nor is it my business. I feel so sad when I think of Miss Marie alone. It's my worst fear, honestly. She probably didn't know how to fix the holes and water damage. I wonder if she had the money to have those things repaired. After a certain point, I would not be surprised if she was ashamed and didn't want anyone to know the state of her living conditions. You have been very respectful and discreet about Miss Marie, thank you for that.
@juliepowell17158 ай бұрын
Yes, you could tell that she loved her home and did try and take care of it. I shudder to think she had rats that most likely were there when she lived there. Maybe she was suffering with dementia and didn't even realize her plumbing, rodent and other issues of her home. Most everything was neat and orderly, until the rats and disrepair. From her house to her beautiful items, she was an amazing lady. I am so happy Kristin and Hal are the new caretakers of this beautiful home, Marie's items, and her memories. Thank you Kristin and Hal for your respect and love of these items. I can deal with lots of things, but those rats are too much for me.
@missemily32648 ай бұрын
@@juliepowell1715 I completely agree with you. I'm so glad to get to know a little of this amazing woman through her things. Regarding the rats, I can handle them when they are dead or scamper away, but they stayed in the closet and other hidey holes. *Shudder* Kristen, you and Hal are doing such a wonderful job with this house! Bit but bit it will come together and be lovely!

Upstairs bedroom - the armoire is pretty awesome & I really like that little with stand. The night stand with drawer is also very pretty. The wooden box - perfect to use as a Marie Casa Keepsake Box, put some treasures, trinkets & momentos inside to honor her legacy and keep her energy in the house. The scarfs will be nice for your Etsy Store. The kerosene lamp, is awesome - what a nice find. Don't know if you're familiar with an app - Google Lens? Once downloaded to your phone, use it to identify found objects, furniture other antique or vintage items. It's like taking a photo and it brings up other "like items", shows pricing and year. Honestly - I think you're being very respectful. You're going through the process yourselves and evaluating each item. Some might have hired a crew to go in and just clear it all out by trashing everything.

So many wonderful things that I’d want to keep. ❤ Location is clearly fantastic, as that grown over property would have hidden squatters and thieves quite well.
