Salgarella and Castellan's research into Linear A, and the new perspective on its relationship to Linear B, is really fascinating.

I am impressed at what Dr. Salgarella is attempting. Her thesis is that there is a greater continuity between Linear A and B scripts than has been previously proposed by any scholars in the last 100 plus years. I have explored this topic and have noticed that there were many signs that were ligatures or composite signs and site specific ways of writing individual signs. In everyday language - the previous transcriptions had big problems. So the paleographic approach will undoubtedly yield some new discoveries on just how Linear B replaced A. My own guess is that Linear C (Cyrpiot) and Cretan Hieroglyphic will also yield some new clues.

This is so useful for my learning of Linear A. I have studied Linear B and completed my Thesis for which I gained my B A Degree which is why I now wish to learn Linear A. Regards. Rita Roberts

One year later, how has your progress been? I'm interested in applying Machine Learning to the problem of Linear A.

Rita, have you read the late Dr. Robert S.P. Beekes' "Pre-Greek: Phonology, Morphology and Lexicon" (2014)? I think the substrate hypothesis is the way to go on the linguistics side of the Linear A "Minoan" question.
