I would like to hit the “like” button 5 times! Great video! I love the way you this was done, very entertaining and creative. Very well done! I really want one of these Esties so I can use my vintage nibs with a modern pen and filling system.

Correction: The adapter is called the MV adapter (Modern to Vintage). The vintage nibs are the re-new points from both Esterbrook and Venus-Esterbrook re-new points.

I have two of the modern Estie’s and they are very nice. The nibs are very smooth and they write quite nicely.

Hi Kerry. It's been awhile since you made this video, but Esterbrook has come out with a 'journaler' specialty nib grind for one of their medium nib offerings. I'd love to get your thoughts on it, and I'd think it'd be a fun video to compare the standard medium versus this specialty grind. Is it worth the extra $40 USD? Or is it just more hype in the 'sexy flexy' nib fad that's captivated fountain pen enthusiasts?

Do you believe these are worth the price? They are priced in the Edison / Franklin-Christoph range. Expensive for a Chinese made pen. How do they compare with PENBBS? They are close to the model 349. I have many vintage Esterbrooks and in their day they were a great value, 33+ nibs, unique look & most have survived. That is my reference point. I wrote with the Esties in DC, The MV section is much smaller than the Jowo section, too small for me. I am one of those who expected more. Glad to see an audience for these pens and hope this renews interest in vintage Esterbrooks.

Well, "made in Taiwan" is indeed Chinese made, but not the same as "Made in China"... Anyhow, I love Edison's pens and would like to have a couple of Flanklin-Christoph pens, but these Esties are indeed well made, of similar materials than Edisons, with the same nibs and the added advantage of the sealing mechanism inside the cap... As for prices, well, the price seems fair for the US market. Now, check the very similar new FPNibs.com "Marbella" pen... I chose mine with a JoWo # 5, 14 k nib customised by Pablo Carrasco to a Semi-Flex... Astonishing! (and for the same price as an Estie or Edison with a steel nib...)

How do you know oen made in Taiwan? Who in Taiwan makes it? Laban, LIY?
@HookahBurdar6 жыл бұрын
chrisrap52 I can just guess that these Esties Are made in the same factory or workshop that make the FPNibs.com “Marbella” and “Ronda” fountain pens and Pablo CARRASCO who is behind FPNibs states in his videos that the pens he sells with is brand are made in Taiwan 🇹🇼. Just check is videos. That is all I know. I just tend to believe him.

I've had an Edison Collier for a few years, and it's been one of my favorite pens, both with the original F nib, and Richard Binder-ground cursive italic. Just got a new Estie, with a medium nib, and the MV adapter, currently with an Esterbrook 9048 installed in it. The Estie's build quality is quite good, it's larger than my Esterbrook J's (which for me is a very good thing), and I can use all my Renew Point nibs in a pen that much better fits my hand. I do not notice the MV section to be "much smaller" than the Estie's section, just a little bit. Yes, I think it's worth the price (bumping up against my usual pen limit, but not too hard), and plan on getting another, with another MV adapter, in the next few weeks. The which will let me use either the 9048 or the 9128 nibs as I choose, without having to swap them out, or the Jowos, for that matter.

You have very similar questions like me, the newer acrelyc Chinese pens are phenomenal especially the penbbs stuff and the wingsung I think 636, they're really affordable which might be unhealthy for stuff like Edison well they are in their own league, penbbs is a game changer! $30 for an acrelyc vac filler?! And that too one that is built well! It's phenomenomal!! Btw I wanted to talk to you about something so is there any way to contact you?

I've been enjoying a lot of your videos lately & recently bought a vintage Esterbrook nib. I've seen a number of complaints that the MV Adaptor doesn't actually work very well (that ink doesn't move freely from the converter into the feed & that fully inked pens will dry up as a result) and usually you're pretty thorough about testing pens before writing a review.... There's no testing here but maybe if the issue's been flagged you'll consider it?

I fear you may have opened up a whole new rabbit hole, darn ya'! Oh, and who did you get to film the inside of the fridge for you -- at least they proved the light goes out when the door closes. Like I said -- clever opening.

I believe you have the oversized Estie. I don’t think you mentioned that. You can tell the difference between the standard and oversized, without having them side by side of course, by the thread section. The oversized has plastic threads between two metal bands, whereas the standard has metal threads between the two metal bands. I don’t understand why they made the oversized different, but I prefer the all metal thread section.
@steveh17926 жыл бұрын
No, both pens she shows are the standard Estie. With the cap off, the standard shows two metal rings separated by plastic. The oversized, cap off, show a single wide metal area, not two separate rings, with the pen body noticeably wider than the section. Also, according to Esterbrook's site, the oversized only come in black.

These look like fine enough pens, and the nib adapter is a neat gimmick, but I’m still upset about the lack of Esterbrook design inspirations. These simply look nothing like an Esterbrook - they look like a generic acrylic pen, even a Monteverde.
@PensandTea6 жыл бұрын
Maybe there will be more Esterbrook Pens that will be able to take the adapter in the future? If this one is popular I am sure it will be a new thing!

Good review and I love the blue pen. But why is everyone on KZbin suddenly writing "The quick brown fox" instead of the traditional "lazy brown dog"? There is not such thing as a brown fox. There is such a thing as a brown dog. Are people now so isolated from nature that they don't know such things as a matter of course? Traditionally, of course, the proper way to write the sentence was "The quick red fox jumped over the lazy brown dog." The not only got the entire alphabet in, but also taught children, who usually started using fountain pens very early, and adults who were city slickers, something about wildlife and nature. Yeah, I'm old. Want to make something of it?
