I love this pen so much. I am getting a clear in fine today, as a matter of fact!

JOY - my pens and books bring me joy too - not very original but there you go. That's why I'm watching. 😃 BTW - I watched the other video and liked it too - I like that you bring a full-spectrum perspective to this hobby (and all of your interests), and you are passionate about all of it. And genuine and real. ❣ (I hope Parker is continuing to feel better.)

I got my hands on the Japanies version (EF) and love how it writes, I have mine inked up with Infinity black and noticed it feels like a pencle for the feedback. Very good pen and definately a writers pen if you enjoy the pen.

Hi. How is the grippiness of grip section? Is it lacquered? Do you suggest to who has the sweaty/oily hand?

Faber Castell Loom nib units fit in the Diamond 580 (Heldin writes made a video about this). So, it is possible to get a different nib, feed and writing experience (and the Loom only costs 5 euros more than the Twsbi diamond nib unit). Just ordered one, I'm gonna give it a try. Cheers

You can create a makeshift one using a sanding block of the same shape, but reverse the position of the paper. It'll save you 3-4 times the cost of one of these, or if you already have one then you don't have to spend extra except for the paper. Or use any block in that general shape. This may be an attractive option if you're into DIY. As for the paper, it may even be that any decent, thick, highly absorbent, and quick drying paper will suffice. So, you may not even need to purchase anything. Or if they're cheap and long-lasting anyway, purchase it and you'll have a cheap but just as effective and even eye-appealing ink blotter.

You’ve been so lucky with your Jinhao X159 pen. I was not. But I didn’t let it go, ad I started tuning it. It went from “notevenwriting dry” to “firehouse bold wet”. Ops 😊 It was a fine writing as a bold. Still scratchy. No misaligned tines, mind. Then I wanted to fix that, I touched the nib tip on my sharpening whetstone, the smoothest I have. OMG. The scratchiness went away. SOOOO BUTTERY SMOOTH. But so wet that it makes an hold on the best paper. So I tuned it back a bit again. Now it’s perfect. Purrrrfect. I can’t believe how perfect this is. Even my Pelican M200 is a bit more problematic (it’s a bit too picky on the writing position), a touch smoother though. I’m happy. Thanks, it was a journey ❤

I completely agree with you. I have the same pen with an extra fine nib, and I absolutely love it. Of all my Safari's, this one is my favorite. Also love the matching ink for the same reasons you do. I've been hoarding the ink in case it disappears. Glad to see you giving this particular Lamy some love!

Excellent pen that takes Pilot Con-70 converter. Pair that with an EF nib, this could be your daily writer and sketcher. The ease of holding, the unfailing nib, the price, the durability, the child friendliness, what is there not to.like? It just works!

I don't have the 823, but I'm looking to buy it soon, but I've the custom 743, 742 (both with FA nibs) and the Falcon, and they're so great to write with. I'm mainly writing music with them (classical composer), I know music nib exist, but I do prefer the FA nibs I manage to get more expression on my score with these. I'm hesitant to buy the 823 with an FA nib from Japan (which would be the same as my 743), or the Fine or Medium, I've not decided yet. I'm afraid that the M would be a bit too wide for me but I saw some writing sample with the F that seemed a bit too fine, I would love to have their soft Fine Medium available but I would have to buy it from Japan.

I'm just over a month into this hobby and I agree with what you've said! (And don't get me started on figuring out wet v. dry inks!) My plan thus far has been to buy cheaper pens (<$100) and many much less, to figure out what shape, weight, and nib I prefer before sinking serious money into a pen. I'm surprised with the quality and how good some of the less expensive pens write. Will I be paying $$$ just for the name? I'm not that shallow.

I bought an AL from Amazon with a fine nib. It’s really scratchy and no pleasure at all. I tried buy a medium nib from Amazon but it didn’t fit. I guess my AL will end up in a drawer somewhere.

The handwriting with the Medium nib is more legible than the Fine nib. Perhaps the pen with the Fine nib should use a darker ink. Surely legibility is priority in handwriting.

I carry my field journal and four pens everywhere! In addition, I have a cheap but surprisingly smooth writer that came with 50 black cartridges. It’s now my work pen. If I lose it or leave it somewhere, I won’t be devastated.
