Don't forget a mechanical pencil for scantrons! Or wood! Crayola does number 2 pencils now and I used the crud out of them for drawing a year or so back.

Cliff! It took me a long time to finally get a Lamy 2000, but once I did it became a favorite! Thanks.

Best of luck going back to school. My sister is a vet tech and my wife is a zookeeper and they both find incredible fulfilment in working with animals, so I hope you can find the same joy. By the bye, I have Platninum Chou Kuro loaded into the black Asvine V126 with an EF nib and I adore that combo for daily writing in my work environment. The Asvine nib is a complete surprise, well behaved, smooth and bouncy and even able to squeeze a tiny bit of line variation out but it plays well with low quality copy paper, too. The pen style/feel is "inspired" by the 823 so it might be a nice substitute for that pen at a much nicer price point if you wanted to take something similar to class. Chou Kuro is a little expensive but I've had tremendous luck with it on any kind of paper I put it on and it's darker than Sauron's soul at the stroke of midnight. Amazingly deep, dark black. It's not *quite* as permanent as Carbon Black is but it's definitely what I would consider waterproof enough to use for any kind of writing that requires some permanency. Good luck and let us know what the young whippersnappers think of fountain pens!

Thank you so much for your super! I’m glad to hear that they find fulfilment in their jobs because that is definitely my number one concern when looking for employment! The new platinum bank is definitely one. I’ve had my eye on because it looks absolutely amazing. I 100% laughed out loud when I read your Sauron comment 😆 so good! I’ve never heard of that pen before but once I’m done commenting, I will absolutely Google it.

I've had my Lamy 2000 for almost a year now and it just doesn't suit my grip. Will be cleaning and selling it soon. Makes me a bit sad as I love the design and it feels amazing in the hand. I just don't use it though, so it's time for it to go so I can put the money towards my next pen 😁

You’re spot on with this pen. I have the EF, F, M, and B individual pens and can’t convince myself to part with any of them.

I ❤ my lamy 2k medium nib. Smooth as butter. I use mine as a dip pen, so I don’t have to commit to a certain color ink. Am thinking of purchasing a second one to finally fill with ink, in a fine nib. Cliff

You're heading into a new adventure with something you love? COOL! I used to do loads of animal rescues, and there is a lot you can do on your own. Even though animals cannot readily verbalize what their discomforts are and often do a powerful job at hiding illness, lots of the interventions are much like those with humans. For some time I did a lot of slave labor with a vet practice. Loved it! My "real job" at the time was Senior Program Consultant for the State Health Dept., and we had a contract for additional research in the city where my vet buddies had their practice, so since I had to go there twice a month, in addition to my usual obligations, I got to visit and learn a lot. So check back with me. Do it a lot. Can you get fully vaccinated against rabies before you inevitably run into a scared mammal whose immunization history is unknown? Vaccination before the fact will ultimately save you a lot of pain and inconvenience as well as a lot of money for the health service. No joke. Going back to school at 36 is totally doable. More and more adults do so all the time.

Wow, that’s an amazing story, thank you for sharing! It is a requirement for me to get the rabies vaccine before I start my placement and work with the animals so I’ll be covered 👍🏻

Cliff! Modern L2K has a 14k nib indeed. The first years they had 18k. Don't know for how many years though. Nice video. I also have one with an M nib, love it ❤️

I have heaps of Safaris in a box... but never tried this one. Probably never will since I'm extremely happy with my Pilot 742/3s - my fav and TWSBI Diamonds feels like a nice step up from a Lamy Safari.

I kind of feel that the Lamy 2000 has a love/hate relationship in the community. I'm sure it writes beautifully, but it's just not the pen for me. I feel bad for saying that because whenever I do, I get slammed. Which I think is unfair because everyone should be able to have choice. There is just nothing about the Lamy 2000 that appeals to me. And I am apologizing for that right up front at the risk of being berated. I'm just a Benu girl and they are about as far apart as it can get, lol

My favorite pen is an Esterbrook. Take your choice. And vintage, with a ReNew nib. It depends because they have SO many nibs. Right now, its a black B 'Dollar ' I'd gotten from Brian Anderson. Not ebonite, so basically early WWII era. Currently with a Firm Broad, usually in a 9968 firm medium. But I love vintage Esterbrook pens. 😁 Cliff.😊

Same here, I love writing with my LAMY 2000; but, didn't like writing with the Safari. I gave my Safari and converter to some guy on the bus, just after receiving the cartridge, a little over a year ago.
