Esther Perel tells us about her mentor Salvador Minuchin and the way he shaped her entire perspective on what therapy is. She studied with him for 4 years in his practice in New York. Perel shows us an interview with Salvador Minuchin, 93 years old, in which he tells the audience that therapy is a polemic disguised as dialogue. People who come to therapy are wrong. They are wrong because they are certain, and certainty is the enemy of change.
Salvador Minuchin was a world-famous family therapist who developed the structural family therapy. He was considered the ‘Freud of systemic therapy'. He passed away in 2017. To learn more about Minuchin you can visit the Minuchin Archives:www.psychother...
“My entire perspective of what therapy is, how to observe people and understand problems has been influenced by Minuchin.”
