I know right! And by the way glycolic acid is a no no for skin of color! girl step away this is why no one shld take this kinda info from a public platform. Ahas are formulated for Caucasians and not melanated people cause its a small molecule, it will cut thru skin and cause hot spots on top of that it has retinol in it that's like a sin. For more education watch Dr vanitta rattan here in yt. She is a specialist in skin of colour , she is an actual doctor, she is also a cosmetic formulator. This is not a diss but js. blessedness 101 I have dark skin and I have been using glycolic acids for years. Literally at 13% concentration. Every other night. When it comes to glycolic acid, it’s not a “no no for skin of color” but rather something that it takes longer for dark skin to ease into and that is more sensitive overuse. Darker skin tones simply have to be more cautious and really listen to their skin. Still, her skin appears rather light no?

i have super oily, acne prone skin that is dehydrated. am allergic to niacinamide, BHA, glycolic acid. do you have any suggestions what i could use?
@claraparente35684 жыл бұрын
Hey! I know I'm not her and I'm not an esthetician neither a dermatologist but I'm just trying to help out. I think the first thing you should do is to try to handle the dehydration on your skin, because maybe your skin is even more oily then it should be because it's dehydrated and trying to compensate by producing more oils, which then can lead to clogged pores and acne. Also, dehydrated skin is more prone to sensitivity so that may be the reason you are having allergic reaction and sensitivity from bha and niancinamide. Bha is kinda tough, but niancinamide is very rare to cause sensitivity. Handle the dehydration first. I don't know your skincare routine, but try to use a gentle cleanser that is fragrance and denat. alcohol free, if you are on a budget you can try the simple micellar gel wash or maybe the cerave gentle hydrating cleanser. You also have to be moisturising your skin. People with oily skin sometimes avoid moisturizers for fear they'll make them more oily but everyone has to be moisturising their skin. It's really important. If you can find one, try to go for a simple moisturizer for now, without fragrance and without alcohol denat. Something with oats can be very helpful if your skin is damaged, and since you have acne prone skin that is a type of sensitivity. Honey is also an amazing ingredient because it's a humectant like glycerin and hyaluronic acid. So try to search for a moisturizer with those ingredients. You should check maybe something like oat so simple water cream from krave, it's a very simple one but effective for damaged or dehydrated skin and is very difficult to have a reaction to those ingredients. This is just a suggestion, if you can find something else that suits you that's amazing. Also, have you tried to check the other ingredients on the niancinamide product you used? Because niancinamide would be a very good ingredient for you, it helps to strengthen the skin barrier and fights sensitivity, and controls the oil production on your skin. Because it is very rare to cause sensitivity maybe your reaction was to some other ingredient on the product. If you really have a sensitivity to it then avoid it, but try to check the other ingredients and see if you allergic reaction came from something else. Search on Google and KZbin for ways to fight dehydration and help improve the skin barrier (Liah Yoo has a very good video on improving the skin barrier), and then you can overcome the acne and oil from your skin, but I think once your skin is hydrated it'll be less oily and your acne may improve. When you think you are good to try chemical exfoliants again, search for PHA, BHA is more prone to sensitivity, AHAs can be more gentle but PHA is the one people with very sensitive skin use most, and it's usually very safe. That way you can exfoliate your skin and fight acne without something very strong. I heard The inkey list has a very good PHA toner but I've never tried it. Once again, I'm not a dermatologist so if you have the financial possibility to go see one that would be amazing, but if you can't, I hope this helps and I really hope you can overcome that problem. You are beautiful with or without acne. Lots of love💕

@@claraparente3568 Hello Clara!! Thank you for such a detailed write-up!! you are awesome!! 🥰 i was watching Nerida Joy's videos n you are right. she advised that those with dehydrated, acne prone skin will need to solve 1 issue at a time. n alot of times it is the dehydration thats causing the problem. because we have used alot of drying products in d past or even now to help with the acne. n that causes the skin to massively dehydrate because of the extremely drying ingredients in acne fighting products (alcohol, denat alcohol, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, SLS). her advice as well was to resolve the dehydration problem first. i have been using cetaphil cleansers for years due to my sensitivity. btw, my sensitivity came about as soon as i started taking accutane. this was years ago but the sensitivity has never gone away. i suspect accutane could have triggered my sensitivity as i never had any allergic reactions ever before that. probably it compromised my gut n skin barrier. the niacinamide i was using was from the oridinary. i have been using serums with hyaluronic acid combined with cetaphil/caudalie moisturizer. this combination keeps my skin soft n supple but it was temporary n never really solved my oily/dehydrated issue. i tried a pure hyaluronic acid serum n had a bad reaction to it. recently i have come across multiple estheticians n skincare/beauty journalists debunking hyaluronic acid - it being a temporary solution n doesnt solve the actual dehydration problem. n there are many cases of it causing allergic reactions for people. n how using it can sometimes cause more harm for our skin. of course if it helps solve their problem, people can continue using it if they prefer. after learning about this, i realised this is what i have been experiencing. it was temporary n nvr did solve my dehydration. n pure HA gave me a bad reaction. in this whole process of learning and educating myself about this topic, i came across an amazing skincare journalist who debunks the truth abt alot of skincare ingredients n got some advice. for now im trying raw manuka honey as a cleanser n mask. n then applying a facial oil when my skin is still damp to lock in d moisture. i switch between raw manuka honey and the cetaphil gentle cleanser. im trying n will see if this helps. n the other advice she shared was also to hydrate our bodies from within - lots of water, water based foods, sweet potatoes, bone broth. im also taking probiotics (under my doctor's advice) to improve my gut health. I am definitely interested in trying krave beauty's oat moisturizer. as soon as u mentioned oat, i thought about that particular product 😊. And i will watch Liah Yoo's video on skin barrier. she does share really good information. Ahh i will look into PHAs!! thanks for that. i got the inkey list BHA as i read its better for sensitive skin compared to AHAs and it helps with acne prone skin. but it ended up causing allergic reactions on d 2nd use. so im laying off it for now. will most definitely look into PHAs. But yes, like you said, firstly solving the dehydration is key. this is such a trial and error process. it gets frustrating for sure. but i am learning so much everyday. n thank you for being so great and sharing your knowledge with me!! i feel grateful being able to learn about all this from people all over the world! continue to spread the knowledge ❤️❤️❤️

Hi Anna! If you are feeling lost I would recommend going to an esthetician. I also offer consultations too. You might just need someone to point you in the right direction ❤️

Hey girl! Usually most people with acne have oily skin, most people with dry skin tend to not have acne so im kinda confused on that, but for a good moisturizer thats affordable I reccommend the 'simple rich repleneshing moisturizer'. Its thicker so good for dry skin but not too thick at all. Then you should use salycilic acid treatments for treating acne. i reccomend the Cera Ve salycilic acid face wash. From a brand called 'the ordinary' maybe check out their niacinamide 10% and zinc 1% serum. Niacinimde is amazing for brightening darkspots aka hyperpigmentation, and its good for reducing inflamation, and helping acne. The rosehip seed oil from the ordinary is also amazing for acne and scars. For more info check out this youtuber called 'Hyram'. He is a skincare specialist and my skin is clear now thanks to him.
