Hi everyone and welcome back.
In todays video, we are talking to Dr Robert Mathis from Santa Barbara, California about Hormones. We will be covering what happens when women enter peri menopause and then menopause, the risks of HRT, weight gain in menopause, depression and insomnia and a bunch of other subjects relating to estrogen and progesterone.
Dr Mathis is not just incredibly knowledgeable, when it comes to hormones (he is actually writing a book on the subject) but also very passionate. When I struggled with my hormones 13 years ago, he was the first physician, after seeing countless others, to actually look at me and listen to me. He also was able, to help me balance my hormones and get my life back, in a rather short amount of time.
If you are looking for a good physician, I could not recommend Dr Mathis any higher. Due to covid, laws have changed and physicians can now offer Tele-practice. I am linking Dr Mathis info below, if you need help, please do not hesitate to reach out to him.

Hi Dawn, I am so sorry to hear you are struggling and have not been able to find help. Please do not hesitate to give Dr Mathis a call. If you are in the US, he will be able to help, if you are outside the US, he can guide you. And if I can help with anything, please do not hesitate to reach out. Please know you are not alone, I hear from women almost daily who are in the same boot, and I have been there too. There is def. hope and I am actually going to have Dr Mathis back on the channel very soon, to talk more about this xx

I was also struggling to find help and living in the boonies didn’t offer a lot of choices. I used Gennev’s telehealth service to get my first HRT prescription and they were excellent. The doc was professional and she asked all the right questions. Cost me $80 for the consult and insurance paid for the estradiol patch and progesterone pills.

I seriously think there should be a compulsory subject on peri menopause and menopause in schools and colleges. This can save so many relationships. Men will have some ideas about what his wife, girlfriend, mother, sister is going through and be supportive. It's such a confusing, frustrating phase of women. It felt so good to watch Dr M telling in detail with depth and emotions. I hope more men will be like him in future. Thank you for such important information from the right source.

What a fantastic Interview! I love the way you let Dr Mathis talk without interruption and asks very intelligent questions. I have been on HRT for about 2.5 years (Estrogel, Ultrogestan and Testosterone) and most of all my 12 peri-menopausal symptoms disappeared. However, the dreadful weight gain is bothering me. I am short 1,62 cm and have been slim all my life. My normal weight was always 55kg until aged 43. I stated doing crossfit and gained muscle so my weight went to 58kg. During the pandemic I weighted 64kg as I wasn't exercising and started experiencing the worst of the peri-menpausal symptoms. I started HRT during the pandemic and I'm now 70kg and the weight keeps increasing despite me exercising and eating a healthy diet. I have been binge watching videos in order to understand what is happening to my weight. It could be that I have PMDD -Progesterone sensitivity. I'm on ultrogestan, I'm bloated, my breast are screaming with pain and wake up feeling drowsy in the morning. Last night I started using my progesterone vaginally. The weight gain is an absolute nightmare.

Agreed, the Dr is key. I was suffering terribly with perimenopause and my Dr told me as long as I had a period, there was no way I could be in perimenopause. I had to and say I was sexually active so she would put me on the pill, which has helped a lot. When I need to do HRT I will find a new Dr.

Missy Lowe I had a full hysterectomy at 30 years old also, 20 years ago. I’ve healed all my symptoms with the ketogenic anti-inflammation diet, as have a tremendous amount of people. Fat falls off, depression and anxiety gone, insomnia gone, body composition changed (more muscle tone), and much more. Evidence showing it reverses Alzheimer’s and dementia and certainly preventing it! Check out LisaLisaD1 on her new found discovery on it, Dr Ken Berry, Dr Eric Berg. Hope that helps!

My gynaecologist put me on HRT right away, which was great but after doing my research, I would prefer to be on bio identical hormones. It’s very difficult to get anyone to listen. Renee Schroeder Renee, this could have several reasons. First off, what form of HRT do you take? Synthetic or bio identical? Is it rhythmic or static? Do you take progesterone as well and if so, for how many days off the months Dr Mathis always believes it is best to mimic nature, so he likes a rhythmic method. All that said, the reason for your sleepless nights could be not enough or too much estrogen or Progesterone. The timing of both being off,.... or it could be that it has nothing to do with the sec hormones, and has a different cause Have you had your hormones tested since in HRT? You are welcome to email or text Dr Mathis, I left his info in the description box, and ask him any questions you have I would think, that as long as we are giving the body what it recognizes and the amount it needs, we should be able to get rid off all these symptoms. But of course, the body is complex

@@sherrylienable The problem with most conventional doctors is they are misinformed when it comes to hormones. I feel so fortunate to have stumbled upon your channel last night. I continued to listen to your other ones with Dr. Mathis in it. I am thinking I may contact him for help. I've been on HRT for years but having problems that seem to not be taken seriously by my doctor. I have zero energy and stay in the bed mostly now. Hair falling in chunks until it's embarrassing, he said my prolactin is 170 which is way way high. MRI without tumor that would cause this but he insists I go to a neurosurgeon of which I don't want to. I've only been on estradiol pellets and I think that the very high estrogen level is causing these problems. I live in GA though and is what I'm understanding that we can become a patient through telemedicine anywhere in US? or do we have to go to California?

it's important that he added that the progesterone balances the estrogen during the pregnancy....so it it really isn't the same....one of the largest causes of breast cancer is actually UTI's....the more UTI's....the more antibiotics....the worse the gut microbiome....the more leaky gut....the more the inflammation....the higher the risk of cancer....we always encourage people to try to prevent UTi's as this is way over treated these days with antibiotics....well along with everything else....people need to build their immunity by eating more plants and therefore more fiber and reducing inflammation with reduces cancer....go plants!

I went on BHRT in my mid forties. I went off 5 months ago at age 64. I think it's a racket. Women went through menapause for years without medical intervention. It doesn't help you get through menapause it just delays it. I'm going through it now but it's getting easier everyday. Don't go on any kind of HRT unless you plan on staying on it for the rest of your life. For me I was just tired of remembering my patch and pills plus it was expensive and no regular insurance will cover the bio identical ones. Spent a lot of times outdoors, get lots of exercise and eat right and you'll get througjh this time of your life without medical intervention. Focus on important things in your life and quit thinking about yourself all the time. I finally learned that at age 64.

While I agree with you that women, of course, have gone through menopause for a long time, we now live in a different world. Our environment is toxic, making it harder for our bodies to cope and we also live much longer. My opinion is- why live without something the body desperately needs if you do not have to? But, we are all different and we have to find what works for us. I am grateful there are doctors like Dr Mathis who are passionate about helping those of us who struggle. But you are right, going into nature, eating right, exercise and focusing on important things is very important. Sadly for many women who struggle with their hormones all of those things become almost impossible to do, I was one of them. I am glad to hear you are not struggling like some and hope you will have a very smooth transition x

@@claudiaglows Thanks! That is very kind of you. I'm good and I'm to the point I only have hot flashes at night and they are getting less and less. I was struggling in my mid forties. I was still working and if someone just asked me a question it could bring on a hot flash so bad I couldn't think or respond. It was so embarrassing so I sought medical help. Maybe it's better to go through that now when I'm retired and have less responsibility. I don't think hormones are anti-aging or do all the things they tell you they will. Most of the women i know don't go on HRT and how they look and how they are aging it totally dependant on their lifestyle. I do think doctors and the big pharma were in on this together. Once you are on the HRT they pretty much got you for life. I also know of no studies on women who have taken HRT for life. It is artificial, it's not how we were made. We were made to have our hormones decline after child bearing.

Thank you for responding Claudia and I will watch the updated video for sure. I was on regular hormones for about 10 yrs bc my gynecologist wouldn’t offer pelleting. I found a nurse practitioner who does the pelleting and I’ve had two so far. I had my lab drawn last week and he should be calling with the results. I asked him if I could try an oral HRT and he only offers the pellet. Maybe I need to give it more time, not sure how many pellets I should try before giving up. If things don’t change soon I’ll try to find another dr, but it’s so expensive to start over and insurance will not cover it. It’s a shame too bc so many women don’t use HRT because it is so expensive. I’m hoping that eventually Insurance companies will cover the cost. What is your opinion about 1 ml estadriol and 5ml Dydrogesterone pill to treat menopause at 48 years old at the beginning. Is it too high? Too low for the beginning?
@claudiaglows
@claudiaglows Жыл бұрын
It is really hard to tell and depends on the individual and how well you are absorbing the hormones. I would say try it for a couple of months, see how you feel and test your hormone levels to see where they are If the levels are too low, you either need more or a different form, if too high you can adjust down But I would definitely take a blood test after about 2 moths of using the hormones

Hello Claudia, I am new here. Great video and lots of great information! My question is, the hrt that Dr. Mathis is referring to is bio identical or body identical? My understanding is that Bio identical refers to compounded HRT and not regulated whereas body identical is regulated and FDA approved. Could you please confirm?
@claudiaglows
@claudiaglows 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Adriana, I am very happy you are here and glad this video was helpful. I have honestly never heard of body identical. But Bio Identical means the body recognises it as one of its own. I do not think that bio identical hormones are FDA approved, but in my humble opinion, that does not mean much. The FDA approves synthetic hormones, which the body def. does not recognise. I hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have further questions and have a beautiful day xx

@@claudiaglows Hello dear Claudia, thank you so much for your response. I wanted to write back to you to give you some information in regards to the body identical hormones. In my research I have found that there are in fact some body identical hormones that have been approved by the FDA and are regulated. The body identical hormones are the ones recognized by our own bodies and are derived from plants. One of the examples is Prometrium, a form of HRT. Here is a portion of what you can find on the internet about this body identical progesterone: "PROMETRIUM(r) Capsules, a recently FDA-approved progesterone, is an important new HRT option that is well-tolerated by many women, and it is structurally identical to the hormone they produce naturally".Dec. 23, 1998 www.newswise.com/articles/fda-approves-prometrium-r This is just one of the examples and I would be interested in hearing from Dr. Mathis about his opinion on these type of HRT vs. the bioidentical which are compounded in pharmacies and not regulated. I could expand more on this if you are interested and point you to some reliable sources to get a better understanding regarding bio identical vs. body identical HRT. Since I'm in Ontario, Canada, I am already close to bed time :) Have a restful night and a beautiful Friday! Very sincerely XX, Adriana

Bio identical just means it’s an exact replica of your body’s estrogen but it can be made in a pharmacy. Pharmaceutical bio identical hormones are better because they are regulated by the FDA so you know exactly how much you get. Compounded means it is not regulated so you are not sure of the dosage. So it’s not bio identical that is different, it’s where it is made.

Hi, I am sorry to hear that. Has your doctor measured your hormones before and after he put you on the patch? I am assuming no, which is frustrating and there is no way for him to know where your numbers are, without testing. He needs to test your estrogen and if too low, increase it. If he does not do so, I would say find a new doctor if the one you are seeing refuses to help you. You can call Dr Mathis and see if he is able to treat you, his info is in the description box, or a different doctor. But personally I would not want to see someone who does not have my best interest in mind. Please keep me posted and let me know if I can help somehow.
