My brother and I saw this movie when it first came out on cable, on HBO I think, probably in 82 or 83. I was around 7 years old at the time, my brother probably 9. Xanadu became the first album that me and my brother ever asked our parents to buy us. We didn't care too much for the plot of the movie, but Olivia Newton-John was hot, and the music was awesome. The album is still, in my opinion, the greatest soundtrack of all-time.

Robert Greenwald's "Xanadu" (1980) with Michael Beck along with Dame Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly in their next to last performances. Excellent music, including the 1981 Grammy-nominated "Magic" plus dazzling lighting, editing, sets, scoring adaptation, choreography, special effects and so much more that make this cult film an enjoyable fun loving experience. A Universal Release. (c)1980 Universal Studios.

This whole films addresses the funadmental human condition of self-aware consciousness, creativity and self doubt, all without ever failing to be fabulous. It's posibly my favourite film. Xanadu was poor timing, and nothing else. Acting was top shelf. Dancing and music was every bit as good as SNF or Grease. It is just by 1980, between SNF, Grease, & Urban Cowboy, America was "burnt out" on musicals. Even Travolta went through a rough patch because of it. Xanadu was a terrific movie that never got it's much deserved due....

b vegan If you start a therapy group I'm in. Every time I'm in a good mood I have this song in mind, and sometimes I even dance.

b vegan NOPE! Straight as a arrow here. (that is not queer in the vulgar sense) No therapy needed. If anything, this song/movie *IS* therapy. It has always made e feel *unreasonably* happy. There's no need to be "gay" the modern sense to feel "gay" in the classical sense.

Ah neon pink, 80s and Olivia, best things in life. Some great songs in this movie, cheesy at times but that's what makes movies like this, the Pirate Movie and Grease 2 so great, cheesiness and great tunes! lol Xandu ftw!

Did you know this movie is an unofficial sequel to Down to Earth with Rita Hayworth? Rita played Terpsichore and has to leave suddenly at the end of the movie, thus the scene in Xanadu with Gene Kelly remembering back to the 1940's and dancing with Terpsichore.

JENDALL714 I didn't know that. I just saw Down to Earth on one of our local channels a couple of weeks ago. I noticed the similar theme of Rita being a Greek muse. Interestingly, Down to Earth is a sequel to the film Here Comes Mr Jordan. You know, I will never understand the Xanadu bashing that has taken place since it premiered. It's one of my all-time favorite movies and I'm extremely picky about the films I like. I guess people either don't understand it or they hear all the negativism and just fall in line with the naysayers.

I love Xanadu, but whether someone likes it or not you have to admit that these special effects along with ELO's music is purely magical.

I'm alive! And the world shines for me today I'm alive! Suddenly I am here today Seems like forever, and a day Thought I could never feel this way Is this really me? I'm alive I'm alive I'm alive! And the dawn breaks across the sky I'm alive! And the sun rises up so high Lost in another world, far away Never another word till today But what can I say? I'm alive I'm alive I'm alive Suddenly came the dawn from the night Suddenly I was born into light How can it be real? I'm alive I'm alive I'm alive I'm alive! And the world shines for me today I'm alive! Suddenly I am here today Seems like forever and a day Thought I could never feel this way Is this really me? I'm alive I'm alive I'm alive I'm alive I'm alive I'm alive I'm alive!

I'm Alive and we're all professional level dancers except Kira (Olivia) but that's okay cause she's a professional level singer and the most charming of the bunch.

kind of cool that one of the dancer is Sandahl Bergman who played in the original Conan the barbarian
