Old now but swung a 28 oz framing hammer for years. Broke many a handle on every one except an Estwing. I have had one of these in my truck for years and it has been abused hard, still works as advertised. I will add, pulling one of these out in a "situation" really gets one's attention.
@davismaddox25848 жыл бұрын
Sorry buddy but that's not "ply wood" it doesn't have any plies to it. That's OSB board, meaning they glue a bunch of little wood pieces together to make it. I will be thoroughly impressed if you get a 3/4" sheet of plywood and punch through it with that. Also, I've watched a couple of your other videos, for future reference you should use different lumber for your chopping tests. it's not very impressive that you can chop a white pine 2x4. That's a soft wood and splits very easily. If anything at least start using pressure treated wood so it's a little harder.

i own this tool and a cold steel pipe hawk. the estwing came with a super pointy spike. so i decided to test it on a fire brick. i chipped away a decent hole in it, but was not able to break it in half. it also blunted to the tip pretty good. as far as throwing goes...it works, but not as good as my pipehawk. i think this has to do in part from it's blade being thicker than the pipehawk. in chopping the pipehawk definitely bites deeper but the estwing doesn't get stuck in the wood like the pipehawk does.

As an American, I admit that we tend to think of firearms as part of American heritage-and they are, but the ORIGINAL American weapon, the one that was first in America was the tomahawk. The tomahawk is 100% an American weapon. The native “Indians” used them, the settlers adopted them and the Continental Army carried them as an issued side arm. Our first soldiers had a firearm and a tomahawk. We didn’t use bayonets or swords, like the British. Documents from the time indicate US troops used tomahawks in hand-to-hand combat and also threw them in combat. They were reportedly lethal up to 60 yards (with a head shot). I know 60 yards is 180 feet, and I’m sure it was not common for them to throw it that far, but there are records that they could get an accurate throw at that distance.

Now if, like me, you decide to run out and get this most epic of tools/toys the same day you see this video, beware. At my Home Depot, they had 8 of them, and apart from mine, the 7 others had a chipped spike (2 with a squarely broken-off tip). These are great. I own two. But, I picked up the second one to use to clear some ice dams. February in the New England this year has sucked. Suffice to say, the mighty Estwing has met its match. Blunted the spike completely after half an hour of hacking at ice. Didn't break but I need to re profile it. And the blade edge. Forget about it. Wouldn't cut soft butter after 10 minutes. I'm not saying these suck. I'm happy to own them. Would buy more without hesitation. But this thing got its ass handed to it by ice.
