ET6 Hit and Miss Engine. Can I get it to start. I struggle BIG TIME !

Now I have fuel I will try and run the model ET6 Hit and Miss engine for the very first time. Will it run ? Ive watched other peoples videos and some have not managed to start theirs at all. I doubt mine will start first pull. In fact more like 20 pulls !
This ET6 engine was purchased from Banggood China. Just search Hit & Miss. Prices seem to vary daily so its worth looking over a few days to get the best deal.

You could definitely see the governor "circle" retracting just before the firing on the cylinder. Amazing piece of minature engineering!

25 or 30 -1 Fred for two-stroke oil Fred, but this small engine might need a little more.

Now you need a small water pump to give the engine something to do, or better still a small generator to make your own light (but don't use it indoors in a power cut), I wouldn't like to read you are all dead due to carbon monoxide poisoning! Good little engine, as difficult to start as the real thing. Once you start the real thing, a turn of the fly wheel will get them going again, but if you ever try the real thing, watch for it kicking back, it hurts!! I would put a tiny drop of oil just behind the piston before you run it, not a lot, let the engine pull in just the highest of a smear of oil. As you say, it needs to be mounted on a heavy bit of wood with a generator to give it something to do. Hit-and-miss engines are just fascinating things to watch, especially the large ones. I would love a model like that, but I might just be looking for a new home if I brought one home 😐 If you are at a show, ask someone with an engine to allow you to try starting it. But listen to their advice before starting it, it is worth trying. If it doesn't start within a few goes, you will feel as if you ran a marathon! Nice one Fred. 😎I was 🤣 by the way lol.

Hello Fred. Here in Newfoundland the folks called these engines also by another name. It was the "Make and Break" engine. They were mostly used in boats. I absolutely love it Fred. Thanks so much for sharing. I have real one which is an old Acadia 3 HP hit and miss engines fully restored and wold be oprational if I had the power coil and a 6 volt battery.. I have it as a lawn display. I was given another one this year which is not complete but has all the main components. I will clean it, paint it and mount it on a wood platform as another one to display. They are very rare here and very collectable. Oh yes, my two motors only have the one weightd flywheel and there is a difference in layout with a PTO (power take off) opposite the flywheel for multiuse such as the shaft and prop of a motorboat.

@@UK-CB-RADIO Fred. One is fully restored. It wasin running condition about 10 years ago. I mounted it as a garden display as I have no other use for it. It has the carburator and all. Te coil and battery were separate. I have a coil here somewhere that will run it and the 6 volt battery is easy enough to come by. I have had many offers to buy the engine but I have not sold it. It will stay in the garden on display. I have it tarped now for winter.

It's NOT a two stroke. And you put water in the hopper. And they run better on TWO batteries, using a bridge to take the place of one of the batteries.
