Dear Sir thx a lot for great details. Its very helpful. One query confusing me is whenusing CTs for overcurrent relay with earthfault in residual connection. Do we have to select ( for pickup n time setting in etap) NEUTRAL OR GROUND option. Pl respond. In your video for feeder 1 & 2 have u used inputs in phase n neutral or phase and ground. Hello , We can change the time of OC definite time from 0.2 sec to 1.5 sec without study ? for PCC point between grid and the plant. Thanks

No, this is a big change in the time delay of the OC element, you should make sure it coordinates with other protection before changing the setting. -Ricardo.

why were current transformes used before CB. should not that used after circuit breaker

Hi. CTs should always look into the protected equipment and encompass the interrupting device. For example, the CTs for the transformer differential relay in this example should be on the top side of the high-side circuit breaker and bottom side of the low-side circuit breaker, both looking into the transformer. The CT on the main breaker for the bus differential relay should be on the top side of that breaker, therefore overlapping with the CT for the transformer differential relay. Can we model another Overcurrent element for 487E for the low side on the same relay?

Hi Talib. I don't think you can do both at the same time in ETAP (if both are phase elements or both are ground elements). You can, however, add the OC element and change the CT input in the Input tab to use either the high side or low side CTs. Also, phase and ground are independent of each other, so you could have a phase OC element on the high side and a ground OC element on the low side. You could also put another fake relay on the low side to show the OC elements in the TCC. Why would you want to have phase OC elements on both the high side and low side within the same relay though? If it's implemented on the high side, it should provide backup for low side faults, if set properly. If you intended to use it for fault locating, the relay records will record both high side and low side currents, so you can easily see where the fault is without having to implement another element.
