Directional Overcurrent Protection of a Wind Farm Collector

etap.com - Full range reactive power support is available in case of electronically-coupled generation sources such as wind turbine generation (WTG) types 3 and 4. If WTG active power generation is less than its auxiliary power while WTG absorbs inductive reactive power from the system, the current angle measured by the directional element resembles a current angle occurring during forward fault as observed by the collector protection relay. This may lead to a false trip and loss of wind power generation.
