in the photo at the end it looks like the baring surface got etched because some of the paint came off. any tips on how to prevent that? is it hard to get the paint to stand up to the acid or did u simply not let it dry enough. given this blade was unfinished for demonstration only i imagine you werent as careful, was that the case or is this something you struggle with?

Question: if the 50/50 ferric and vinegar solution did such a good job darkening. Why not just use that instead of the heated muriatic acid?

After the fogging I used a buffing cloth and it removes the fog but still isn't darker than just the muriatic.

Did you heat the second solution?

I did my usual muriatic dip, neutralize then tried 2 min in the 50/50 and it just fogged out everything. I then tried 1 min and it did the same. It didnt darken at all. Im using the 304L/316L twisted damascus and I make rings. It may be that there's just more 316 than 304 as the 304 is what's etching. Any ideas? I absolutely love your end product! you can see my the ones I just did on my Instagram JBlunt Designs. Thanks for your help Josh

How do you remove the marker paint .
@diggumsmack26 жыл бұрын
The second dip; I'm a little confused. Ferric chloride 30% and Vinegar solution 50/50 mix. So that would be 70% of vinegar and distilled water mixed to 50/50? Its just the 30% and then 50/50 part don't compute for me.
@vincentedgeworks6 жыл бұрын
R. J. Cranson the ferric chloride should be the 30% kind and it’s 50/50 with vinegar. The bottle of ferric chloride should say 30% on it.

Hi guys can this process be used with most stainless steel Damascus or just the spacific Dama blends
@Damasteel3 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen, It should be possible to use the same process but we can’t guarantee that the result will be exactly the same. With best regards
