Thanks for explaining it. I am going to have to try it...after i figure out how to do damascus again as I have been focused on Monosteel the last 3 years.😅+🤔i am not a chemist, but it's actually likely that Floried interferes with Ferric chloride as a form of Chlorine is used for in ferric chloride. However, its also has mineral content, which can cause scratches or even streaking (from experience as my current ferric chloride is from tap water... because no one explained it to me when I started 7 years ago...and it still works fine for what I use it for, so I have yet to change it out) what makes coffee work is its weak acid content. It colors 1080 differently than FC because it's a different type of etchant.

Shoot I did t start till I was 47 and now I'm 51. Practice good hammer technique and you can forge for as long as you can pick a hammer up.

Any one may be able to make Damascus but I don't know anyone that can make that block you mad with such perfect graduation of color/steel that broke my brain can't stop thinking on it !!!

Loved the video, and I'm excited to see what else you share! Quick question about the wax. What type do you use? Just plain beeswax? I'm thinking about food safe considerations, I'm guessing you wouldn't want to use something like Mothers or Renaissance wax...

Interesting to see the difference between NK and Kyle Royer. Kyle uses gloves and doesn't handle the knife at all and uses a sanding stick while Neil handles the knife with hands and sands it in any direction.. Results speak for themselves though.. :)

Thanks for teaching your process man, great video too. Do you use rain water for distilled substitute to mix with ferric? Also your wax, do you blend your own, similar to Renaissance wax?

I use Folgers instant, and never boil it. I use 1 to 1 mix to water in a pint glass. Drop my blades in there overnight and get identical results. Great video man!
