There are so many beautiful places to explore in Mexico. In this series, I've returned to the Yucatan Peninsula for the first time in quite a few years to discover Mayan ruins, stunning cenotes, and delicious food (ok and some not-so-delicious food).

So glad you got to see Coba. It has changed a lot. My husband and I first visited in 1993 on our honeymoon. There was one narrow trail to get in, no charge for parking and almost no one there. You could climb to the top of the largest pyramid until the last time we were there in 2013. My favorite memory from visiting there in the 90s was trekking through the jungle to the ruins, no other gringos around and happening into a swarm of beautiful yellow butterflies. There was a local Hispanic little girl laughing and dancing around in the middle of it. It was so amazing-I will never forget it. Makes me miss the “old Mexico” but I still love it there❤️. Thanks for sharing!

I had heard even as little as 5 years ago it was still more like what you experienced. This region has definitely grown at lot in a short period of time, but it was still pretty magical! Your memory of your visit sounds wonderful!!

So happy you’re doing Mexico trips again. Yucatán is so amazing. If you ever go back to Ek Balam don’t skip the cenote there- one of my all time favorites.

Great video and thanks for sharing the helpful website. These are definitely on my todo list! Early last year I listened to the audiobook version of Jungle of Stone, which is the story of J.L. Stephens and F. Catherwood's travels through the world of the Maya - highly recommend.
