The eternal mystic feminine has been present in spirituality from inception. Here we survey historically starting with Inanna in Sumer and moving forward in time through ages (Judaism, Jesus of Nazareth, the Middle Ages) various women that played pivotal roles in shaping their lives and those of others. Much of what has been written about the role of women in spirituality has been to minimize their role, when in fact, women played a critical role in shaping mysticism and spirituality in daily life.
