In a way I think it hits a similar vibe as Blade Runner. Its funny how when Vincent is going to Eugene's home, he is told by the guy: "His expiration date in unbelievable". "Expiration date". I wonder if that was a little wink to B.R

He mentioned the marketing, and I can actually recall being disappointed as a kid that it wasn't like a Fifth Element clone. As a teenager trying to find my way and having one door shut after another as you're just trying to make sense and find your place in the world, that line he mentions, "How are you doing this?!...never saving anything for the way back..." It was one of the most inspiring pieces of cinema that undoubtedly kept me going on some of those tough days. A fine piece of cinema perhaps hindered at the time by marketing but befriended by time as Ethan mentions here. I highly recommend a watch.

@benjackson103
@benjackson103 6 ай бұрын
@@schmidthockey 100%. I take Gattaca over interstellar. Interstellar has great acting, an amazing soundtrack and stunning visuals. But Gattaca is the far superior story. It’s the triumph of the human spirit. A movie about ambition and one man fighting for his values in a society which actively dismiss him. He sacrifices everything, not for some altruistic greater good, but for his own goal and happiness. That to me is good. Also the premise of interstellar is a little silly. Like we have the tech to leave earth but not save it??! Gattaca’s visual style and use of color is stunning. The set design and wardrobe are incredible. It’s in my opinion is an objectively better film. And the fact that Gattaca revive a 100th the amount of praise as Interstellar is sad.

Gattaca is one of the best movies of all time! So many reasons why… but one I’ve come to love is that it’s one of the only movies I’ve seen where the hero is the one who is so void of all emotions almost, calculated, dry, and shows no excitement when they overcome obstacles. Yet the viewer receives it all with so much feeling and meaning. It’s amazing how such a character can bring so many feelings to the surface.

He goes through the same physical and mental training as everybody that are going out to space, despite his genetic makeup and his supposed weakness (he is not weaker than his brother, which he showed not once but twice). He was better than most if not better than all of those people. "Not a single mistake in a million keystrokes in your flight plan" this is praise coming from the director. Despite being not "as smart" as his competition according to his genetics. If you really think this, you understood nothing about this film.

I saw Gattaca on opening weekend in 1997 and absolutely loved it. Gattaca is one of my favorite movies of all times. Unfortunately, the theme, plot, and concept were beyond the grasp of the IQ of the average moviegoer. The movie is very much in the Science Fiction genre, but it is not action Sci-Fi like Star Wars. It failed at the box office because many people could not understand it. Very sad to say that right now I don't know if you could make a movie that is targeted to a more intelligent crowd like you could then. I miss films (and books) that make me think.

Gattaca meant so much to me as a kid in the 90s when I saw it. I've never forgotten that he out swam his brother because he never left anything for the swim back. It's a beautiful film. And all great performances.

I was 12 when it came out and it has remained one of my favorite films I’ve ever seen. That’s pretty incredible for a film to resonate so much with a 12 year old and for that same kid to remember how amazing it was 27 years later!!! I think I’ve watched it 7 or 8 times over the years. And I remember at 12 telling my friends about it and they thought I was weird 😂

Many talk about training day and dead poet society and for good reason, but Gattaca deserves a mention in his resume for sure.

I watched this at the cinema back in the '90s and it was one of those fims that stays with you long after leaving the theatre.

For me personally I find so many pieces of sci-fi media from the past (even the recent past) feel like they're no longer in touch with the modern zeitgeist (go figure) nor paint a plausible vision of the future, good or bad. GATTACA is the one film to buck that trend for me. Even now (maybe even more so now) it feels like such a grimly plausible vision of our future. A future where we manage to solve most of our current problems, but in doing so create a horribly dystopian world where nobody has any say in their future from the day that they're born.

Gattaca is certainly one of the best overlooked movies of the 90s. The ambience, the acting, the originality of the plot, the world and character development, all 10 out of 10. I really had a thrilling time watching Predestination. I don't remember how it got recommended to me to watch 8 years after it came out but really an incredible movie.

"I never saved anything to swim back" - This line, This movie had a profound impact on me back when I watched it and till this day by far my favorite philosophical stand. I was just thinking about this line today and that it would be great movie to watch with my kids to let them know that anything is possible, anything.

My daughter was born in 2002 and I can't remember when I showed her this film but she loved it and here we are in 2024, she's 22, took all sciences, got a double degree in animal science and genetics and genealogy and is about to go into genetics. This film was awesome back when I was 27 and I never forgot it, so powerful and ahead of it's time, wonderful movie. If it was overlooked at the time I can only imagine it was because the audiences were stupid.

Gatica is one of my favourite Sci-fi movies that is more relevant today than when it was released. It’s beautifully crafted with characters as flawed and insightful as you will see in any piece of cinematography.

I saw Gattaca as a kid, maybe 10 or 12. I saw the title and thought it was going to be about that video game in the 1980s with a similar name. But then I saw it and thought at first, what is this? And as I kept watching I thought this movie was incredible and a masterpiece. Of course at the time I couldn't express that idea into words so I kept it inside. But as an adult now I can say I watch this movie maybe 2 to 3 times a year. It is one of the few movies that ages like wine. I love the story and the deeper meanings to it. It's my favorite movie from Ethan Hawk.
