perhaps the saddest thing about the movie is knowing the night could’ve gone “perfectly” and it would still be a horror movie. what about after the prom? what does carrie have to head towards? not a relationship with this “prince charming” or even organic acceptance from her classmates. she would’ve likely ended up back in her mothers clutches eventually. carrie may have developed a sense of will but lack of real-world connection with others would’ve left her lonely and vulnerable against going back to the only place she knows where and how to survive. great sound, beautiful, like everything ethel cain touches

I don't get the meaning of the song. I usually do, but can you please tell me? :)
@Charliiie4159 ай бұрын
@@GentaroYumenothe song and video are inspired by the 1976 horror film “Carrie”. Ethel initially sings about her and Willoughby’s chaotic and passionate love they share. “Can I tell you a secret? I’m desperate for you” Ethel is Deeply in love. She later talks about them being buried next to each other after they’re love inevitably kills them. She then says “ brought a knife to the gun fight, but they shoot blanks and I’m feeling crazy tonight” in the film Carrie is the victim of a very cruel joke. They pour pigs blood on her after she’s crowned prom queen but even before then when she arrives at prom with her date, everyone is staring at her because he was a part of the prank. Hayden has said before that Ethel Cain is trans so the lyric about everyone staring and feeling like there’s no air in the room probably have to do with Ethel being anxious about everyone staring at her at the homecoming dance because she’s visibly trans. Making her feel like she’s the butt end of an inside joke that everyone els is in on. “THEY’RE ALL GOING TO LAUGH AT ME” is inspired by a line from the movie where Carrie’s mother warns her that everyone’s going to laugh at her at the dance. “They’re all going to laugh at you” he mother told her before she left the dance, and she was right. Carrie ends up killing everyone in the dance with her telepathic powers and burns it to the ground, locking everyone inside for good measure.

@@Charliiie415this is a genuine question/query/point. I love your interpretation. However to counter it, Hayden has said that anything before PD that she hasn’t officially released isn’t canon to the Ethel Cain lore around PD. More just Hayden finding her sound. But again, once she said that her EP’s etc are more a reflection of her (Hayden’s) own life experiences, not Ethel’s directly (lore canon wise); but can be associated with Ethel more so as an extension of Hayden not anchored into the EC/PD storytelling. I’d argue this is around Carrie and how Hayden relates to it through her own life experience, rather than EC/PD lore. At least until she releases it as an extension of EC/PD lore as she will with some of her old demos etc for the B-sides. ⛪️♥️
