My 91 year-old grandfather really loves the footage you have posted today. I had never heard of Ethel Smith but as soon as I mentioned her to my grandfather, he said he used to listen to her on the radio in the 1940's, and he was excited about seeing this video. Also, Myron Cohen is his favorite stand-up comedian so he really likes seeing him too. He would also love it if you could post opera star James Melton singing the ballad, "Beyond the Sea" on a show in 1951. James is one of his favorite singers and he even named his son after him. He bought the "Beyond the Sea" record when it came out, and it is one of his favorites by James. He has never seen the Ed Sullivan footage of him singing the song, and neither have I, so we would love to see it!

These early (late 40s/early 50s) clips are fascinating to watch.

Ed Sullivan seemed to have so much fun on these early shows. This is some fascinating early footage and I thank you so for posting it! I also really like the fact that you are including more Ed in the footage in general, leaving in more of his intros and outros. It really helps put the viewer more into the show, and I've always loved seeing and listening to Ed.

These were the early days when the show was still called "Toast of the Town (through Sept. 1955). The budget for the show was bupkis and sometimes Ed had to go into his own pocket for the weekly production.

When I was just a kid, I saw "Blame it on the Samba" Walt Disney live action and cartoons. Ethel arose out of a huge brandy snifter and Donald Duck and Jose' the parrot danced on top of the organ. It was so nice to see her wing it on the Ed Sullivan show. She was always absolutely perfect in her movies, but to see her let her "hair down" showed me that she had a great sense of humor The audience just loved the whole thing.

O samba até remete aos sambas dos anos 50..., mas o Bloch parece mais um estereótipo de mexicano!😄

am I seeing things, or did they move the left front leg of that BC to the middle of the case? I've never seen a Hammond case modified like that.
@AnonyMouse-bl4gq8 ай бұрын
Yes, Hammond moved the leg on her organs, so that she wouldn't bump her knee on it.

This very talented woman didn't speak portuguese...looks like she spoke in russian...and I don't know why Ed put a kind of blanket and a mexican sombrero on that man...here in Brazil we don't use those things...
