Hey, Veteran here. Let me just say how much this series resonated with me. While I never killed my best friend to cover up secret CIA documents, I haven't identified with a character as much as I have with Mickey. To have this unquestioning loyalty to country above all else and to have that ideal, that belief come crashing down... It can effect people in significant ways. I know it might seem silly, but these videos helped me more than I can describe, even with the gloomy ending I still feel better having watched it than before I watched it. Thank you, Ethereal Snake.

This series was legitimately art. It's one of the things I love about the internet, how often things that start as jokes end up turning into so much more. The whole "Mickey in Vietnam" thing kind of reminds me of Red Vs. Blue, where it establishes a bunch of nonsense when it's a joke and then somehow actually makes everything make sense without really retconning anything when they start taking it seriously.

god i love this whole sound track 0:20 desolation is gorgeous, it has a kinda mournful duty kinda sound. it just feels like regret put into song. 2:58 simpler times has a depressed and mournful nostalgia, wanting for earlier times while regretting your mistakes. 5:15 face off is my favorite track on this entire soundtrack. it feels like the common face off music, but regretful, filled with sorrow and confusion. you can feel mickeys regret from the moment he pulls the trigger in both the scene and the song. when the guitar really rips up in the background you can feel the madness and pain just eating away at mickey. 8:49 im fading down is beautiful. the lyrics paint a picture that is mickeys mind, the PTSD, the regret, the depression, the mania, all of it just controlling him completely. all of this is while the instrumental in the background is slow, and almost sad. thank you ethereal, you honest to god created one of my favorite videos on youtube and one of my favorite cinematic soundtracks of all time. i still cannot believe you turned a mickey mouse shit post into one of the best representations of PTSD, Schizophrenia, and depression i have ever witnessed in media. thank you, sincerely, some prick on the internet.

Not true, war brings out the extremes in people, for better or worse, and I would have picked any of them despite their faults over almost every civilian. Because when shit did indeed hit the fan, they buttoned up and soldiered through and made the absolute best of every moment in spite of the horrible shit. That feeling when you get a cup of warm tea and a cigarette out of nowhere when you asked for nothing, because that guy knows how "fun" it is to be without sleep for 48 hours and then stand guard over the armory while you're getting shot at. No.. soldiers do not just destroy, it is the civilians without a foot in the door that votes for this shit with no skin in the game that destroys. Sending entire segments of generations to die, so they can feel morally superior. And then they forget as quickly as they started it that they were for it, and now when these traumatized people come home.. they have the nerve to judge and blame? No. A lot of the most beautiful and touching works that define our culture is from former soldiers. Tolkien that wrote LOTR wrote a piece of hope and beauty in spite of the hell he saw during WW1.

Although all the songs were stunning, Face Off just hit me deeper. Thought about my uncle with it. He was a Falklands war veteran on the Argentinian side, and during the battle of wireless ridge, he was a part of the 7th infantry regiment, which defended positions near Port Stanley. As the regiment took more and more casualties, most of the soldiers retreated and abandoned their positions, but he and his long time friend were left behind. Out of pure desperation and rush, they grabbed an FN mag light machine gun, and out of despair, left their trench and emptied two whole 100-round belts at the hillsides, hoping to hit a target. They then realized they were shooting at the direction their friends were fleeing at, and not where the british were coming from, coming into sense some minutes later. That final synth riff and then final guitar riff just felt like a climax and then a realization, just like in the video where mickey starts seeing his friends as humans again. Man, war can do some crazy things to people. ps: thanks for all the replies. god bless you all and have a wonderful 2022.

I struggled for a long time with how the world, and subsequently the people as well, had changed in such a short time during my absence from it, while serving as a conscript in my countrys Armed forces. The world i left behind wasnt the same i came back to, and this series really resonated onto me in terms of the theme and the metaphors contained within it. In some aspects, i saw a lot of similarities in Mickeys condition, both during active duty and post-war, which made the experience feel even more personal. The soundtracks are just as amazing. I hope you're doing well Ethereal, you've produced a Masterpiece out of something that started as a mere sketch.

@@based4560 I did my service during peace time, so i never actually saw live combat. So suffice to say, i was luckily spared from PTSD myself. But everything about my service really stuck with me, mainly the carefree lifestyle inside the Garrison, the daily routines and the Unity of the company, despite all of the other people there being complete strangers at first. If i had to describe my experience, i would say its very similar to being institutionalized, if not exactly just that. In contrast to the freedom you get to experience in the normal world, you only have a relative amount in the service. But in exchange, you are fed three times a day, theres plenty of good exercise and skill courses, and best of all, you get to spend all that time with mostly like-minded people. So at the end of my service, it was a real hard blow to come to the realisation i would be returning to my relatively mundane life once they issued us our Military passports and certificated proof of our service, and all of us would go our separate ways. And for a time, i had a hard time adjusting back to the regular living, granted i no longer had any of the activities or routines the Military provided. It also didnt help that i immediately ran out of work on my line of profession after being released, since the Pandemic had just started when i returned. The world had gone silent in my absence.

I'll never forget the story he told me, he was recon in the war was often was out alone in the jungle. Well he came across a huge bunch of bananas and right as he went to pick one up he started taking fire, he managed to escape unharmed. I asked him "what were you thinkinh after that?" He just chuckled and said "They took my damn bananas!" R.I.P First Sergeant Joseph Bartley May your sacrifices for your country never be forgotten.

Hehe, feel a bit bad about the bananas x3 But it's nice when you can still have good memories of times like that
@Senor_Penor2 жыл бұрын
Update: I got the story slightly wrong, appatently he was recon but he was a squad leader not a solo guy. So he and his buddies were excited about the bananas. He never talked about them except for once when i was a kid that they were all dead while we were looking at a picture of them together. I truly wonder what other stories he took with him to the grave we will never know.

PTSD is no joke, like Mickey I understand what it is to lose yourself. A part of me died eight years ago with the trauma that started it all, and I don' think I ever came back from that mental war that whilst I can clearly see is over my mind is still fighting despite the metaphorical all-clear being given. Does it ever get better? I don't know, but I don' t think I'll ever be able to lose the fear, that spark that continues to elude my best efforts to calm it with the soothing balm of reality. A part of me died that day, and I don't know if I can come to terms with losing the person I was and the person I continue to be.

You're not alone. We go out, we do what we're told, what needs to be done. Our hands stained, our memories burnt out, coming home to a place that has forgotten us, or worse, praises us with plastic support without knowing what we went through. "Thank you for your service", a hollow sentiment, though well meaning, from those who don't know. We come back to the place we fought for to find it unrecognizable. We fought for a place that no longer exists and no longer cares. It hurts every day knowing my brothers died for this. I'm tired brother. But only together can we make it through this. Find our brothers and stay close.

Spent the better part of the last 10(ish) years of my life battling addiction and childhood ptsd as well as depression, yadda yada. This series resonated with me heavily as I was constantly battling past selves and memories. Finally realized if I didn't let the bad ones go no matter how bad they were. Spent so long looking into the abyss it started staring back and i knew i would be the first to blink, so i looked away. Got really sick with a bug, quit drinking, vaping, stopped my anti-depressants, and spent the next two weeks just being sick. I didnt nessesarily focus on the good, but i started forgetting about the bad. Stopped crying over spilt milk and just got stuff done. Cut out toxic family members, friends, started surrounding myself with less people and learning to enjoy life with rhe few friends i now have and learning to live myself, bit by bit. Maybe some day my depression will end me, but untill then, I'm going to enjoy the time I've got and all the little moments in between. If you read this far, i hope you have a good day, stay groovy and dont beat yourself up to much, alright?

Hi from Russia, author of Mickey masterpiece. War theme is painful. Though, I've not seen it 100%, i was a 17 year old wordless and helpless watcher of war spreading at home. I saw drunken father crying after he took me and mom from home, far from war, but it was exhausting. It is the biggest pain in my life, i saw him at basement via skype, cause he should take care of my grannies, so he returned home. We all are alive, and uninjured, our home is undamaged. We are much luckier, then hundreds of other families. But some part of us is left behind, somewhere 8 years ago. Why the fuck I'm writing it here? I can't forget it. Nobody deserves it. Be safe, you, your family and home.

5:15 **Face Off comes in slowly** "you can be the best at what you do, the fastest, the strongest.. but you still won't be fast enough, strong enough, or good enough to get away from your mistakes... sooner or later, they always come looking. no matter how far you run, where you bury it, or what you do to escape your past... you can't get away from yourself. and in those quiet moments, it will gnaw at you. scream at you. ask you why. 'why? why, why, WHY?!' over and over. again, and again, until nothing remains. just a hollow, broken person. broken, alone.. and exhausted."
