Sorry but I don't feel that you painted a true picture. The certs to go for are ejpt the either ecppt or oscp, not ceh or cisp. Ceh unfortunately is still considered a gateway cert into the field so it will get you an interview as hr don't rly know the industry. It's changed to have some pentesting in but honestly it's best to follow the path stated above. Before that I started with a book by Georgia weidman, a hands on intro to pentesting. Technically you could get a job without certs but you're doing yourself an injustice.

Lyght, this was very helpful. I am on the path to ethical hacking certification(s). I didn't know there was a difference between the two before starting. I'm currently learning about the 8 domains and came across the term pentester and it sounded like the term was being used differently than ethical hacking. Indeed, they were because it is different. That is a great question, and I will definitely make a video about this to go into more detail. They do have similarities, but threat hunting is post incident. The attacker has already penetrated the network vs ethical hacking you're pretending to be the attacker penetrating the network.

If I search on Indeed for "Penetration Testing" or "Ethical Hacking" in NYC , I see 5 or 6 non-supervisor non-mgmt jobs total. I just don't think the $1000s for red team certs are worth it.

But certification is not necessary for your firsts jobs being as Penetration Tester

@@mf-11111 but it seems like most people in the few red team jobs start out in the blue side. It just seems there's a lot of companies selling training and certs for the red team when there's so few jobs amd your competi g with people with tears of experience.

It will be way more careers for penetration testers and ethical hackers. Web3 has smart contract which runs on blockchain. And a blockchain can contain security vulnerabilities. And exactly because of the nature of web3 it will be not even possible to track those cyber crimes. And because of that the companies will need us as never before.
