"In Paris, 1940 - 1944, under German occupation, people went to the beach, they went to fashion shows, they went to the theater. Picasso sitting in occupied Paris, went right on painting. Sartre kept on writing plays..." This is one of the most remarkable talks I have ever heard. Hilberg was an amazing historian. I wish I had been a student at UVM when he was teaching there.

He doesn't tell you the people of the train were killed by US fighters that had no idea the train was loaded with prisoners. War is ugly. The same is true of the beautiful face of the whole truth: it too is ugly.

Some of the comments are just mind-boggling. "He wasn't in the cocentration camps" until nomatterwhen. Well, fortunately so. Had he been there at the "appropiate" time, he wouldn't have survived, to begin with. If "being there" is the only claim to accuracy and reliabilty, then history wouldn't exist, simply. History does not exist only, not even mainly, because of the existence of direct witnesses, but thanks to a small minority of researchers who study, yes, direct testimonies, but also analyses that, per force, must be written years, decades, or even centuries later. Let's be serious. If the only "thing" you have to say is something like that, just shut up. So much the better for the rest of humanity

If you like his speeches, you'll love his writing. Very clear and clean writing. Professor Hilberg's work deserves close examination. He does NOT say that the Jews suicided or had a "death wish". He does say that the Nazis used their lawful behavior against them.

There is some trash person who beat Jews to death in Kuanas with an iron bar. One after the other. Known to history as the "Death Dealer of Kuanas". I heard that he survived the war, lived in peace in the USSR. Sadly. He deserved some camping time, courtesy of the Soviet Ministry of Interior Affairs. Assuming that he survived his interrogation, and I think that he deserved the full rigor of the "conveyor".

We Arabs like my family who witnessed the violently murder and expulsion of over a million loyal Jewish citizens of the Arab countrues, blaming for the creation of Israel, which they were not involved in, if we want to blame anyone for Israel, we need to look in a mirror. Between the most thorough annihilation in Europe and our own stupidity, we gave them no alternative.

People, you must understand few rights- freedom of speach and expression, + freedom of religion. This man choses not to believe in the Holocaust, while Hilberg and some other people chose to believe in the Holocaust. People don't believe in God are called atheists, not God deniers. By logic same goes for people who don't believe in the Holocaust. Have a nice day. Also there was a trial of a nacionalsocialist in 2016, he said that he was ashamed that he was a part of that crimal thing and he was sorry. (that should make the Holocaust believers happy) Have a good day!

supermauro79 just because he doesn't believe in the Holocaust doens't mean he is a liar. I do understand where you are coming from. There was a nacionalsocialiat trial in 2016, the person apologized and was shamed of his actions. Hoppefully that makes you feel better. Also the reason why Hilberg might be biased is because he came from a jewish family, I don't mean to be rassist or antisemitic here, just pointing out the fact why he might be more biased on the subject (people have biases, because of emotions, history, point of view etc), even you and I. The reason people why non-jewish people start to deslike and disbelief the Holocaust is because by sme dishonest people it is used to lie about people, especially those who fought soviet occupations and tyrany. Also because of the rudnes of this famous historian who tralled the world to get archives of Holocaust- Raul Hilberg: One qoute in his book "The Tragedy of European jews 1933-1945 |victims|criminals| witnesses (?) |" he wrote few sentances about the soviet occupation of the Baltic countries and actually writes that the only thing that made it sad for him was that the Red army deported few too rich jews. Also skips few things, almost skips the clear explanation why people in there started to hate jews. The other very important thing why people start to don't believe in the Holocaust is because in some countries if you talk about Jewish crimes you can be judged for antisemitism while if they or others look up crimes of the naitive people it's considered "searching for truth". The third thing that makes people don't belive in the Holocaust is that the crime discriptions are too unrealistic to them, till the point it seems very very stupid and alsmost imposible if doing the math. I hope this made it more clear, have a nice day
