My Ethiopian friend in college took me to an Ethiopian restaurant called Diamond, in Chicago. I really enjoyed the food, and EVERYONE I have taken there since, has enjoyed the food. Ethiopian is definitely in my top 3 favorite ethnic foods. Very tasty, with just the right amount of spice. It's on the healthy side too. I am surprised it's not more popular. I would like to see more Ethiopian restaurants in the US.

Yes, Ethiopian food is very addictive like Indian food once you get used to it. I have never seen anyone I made Eritrean/Ethiopian food for, said 'No' to it

I can read Ethiopian (Amharic). I can sound out words at least. The restaurant sign said "Ethiopian Restaurant" (as you already knew) or more literally, "Restaurant of Ethiopia." To use my own transliteration, it is, "Yeityopian migibet." The "ye" means "of" and thus "Of Ethiopian Restaurant" which comes out as "Restaurant of Ethiopia." Also, the "bet" means house/home and "migib" is food, and thus "house of food" is a restaurant. I've had Ethiopian friends in Minnesota.
@tiyajameson61798 жыл бұрын
How did you learn how to read amarigna?
@Mr.Shannon.4568 жыл бұрын
I bought some language learning material, one of which included an alphabet chart that helped me learn to read and write. I have very limited vocabulary though as I haven't studied much in several years.

yaballo1 You should visit Asmara in Eritrea. Very beautiful there! I hope you change your opinion on Ethiopia and Eritrea after exploring the culture more! :)
her diaries: there is nothing authentically Eritrean found in Asmara. The few eye-catching art-deco buildings in Asmara were built by Italian colonisers. Loads of art-deco buildings can be found all over the Latin-speaking parts of the world including the whole of South-Central America, Spain, Portugal, Italy, etc. Can you recommend ONE thing attractive in Asmara that had been built by war-mongering & refugees-exporting Eritrean bantus?

when you provide Gursha, the choice of sauces is the givers. That is the beauty of it. Which one do you like, you don't ask. Its the same as giving a gift but asking what one wants first. Kills the spirit. Also instead of saying Tammy can you give me a gursha, you could say, Tammy Agurshi (A pronounced as in Apple) my daughter is so used to getting Gursha, even now she waits for me to feed her with Gursha the entire meal, whenever we get a chance to eat together.

People are offended they are using a fork. Why does the restaurant offer a fork if it's culturally unacceptable and offensive ? I'm confused. Report the restaurant not these young ladies-- happy they are embracing a culture other than their own.

👍👌for the video Let me tell you the names of the different types of wots, Allicha misir kik (the split peas), Misir wot(lentil), tikur gomen (collard greens), timatim fitfit (tomato with injera), Aybe (Ethiopian cheese), keyi siga wot (the red meat with sauce), Allicha siga wot (the yellow meat with sauce), kitfo (The spicy beef), the one in the middle is selata meaning salad. TIPS: for most of the foods you order there are two types Allicha(the yellow version with less spiciness) and keyi(the red version with more spiciness. Also when you eat use only one hand to wrap the injera with the wots. Plus you can make your own combination of the wots for each gursha.
