My grandma used to tell me stories about the Yemenite Jews who lived in Yemen in the past. She said they were very kind people, and they worked in handicrafts. I own many of the silver pieces made by Yemenite Jews that gave me my grandma :) . I have a point that the Yemenite Jews who were born and lived in Yemen they love Yemen as any Yemeni, and they want to live in Yemen, but those who were born in Israel or they didn't live in Yemen they don't know anything about Yemen so they don't love Yemen as the other Yemenite Jews. I hope the war ends in Yemen, and the Yemenis (Muslims\Jews) -who lift Yemen- come back to Yemen and live in peace like the old days! :) I'm Yemeni from Taiz the city which (Rabbi Shalom ben Yosef Shabazi- שלום שבזי )was born and lived in, but I live in Sana'a :)

There was a mutual respect between the Jews and the Arabs in Yemen (as there was in any other Arab country) but the Jewish population didn't leave Yemen for no reason they were constantly humiliated and attacked. As always whenever there was problems they blamed the Jews. According to the yemeni Jewish tradition the Jews came to yemen right before the first Template was destroyed (that's long before Islam came to Yemen).

As a Yemeni muslim, our grand parents told many stories about living with Yemeni Jews in Taiz and Aden. Those talking about mistreatment of Jews in the old days are referring to the mountain areas of North. The mistreatment was done by the King of Yemen called "Imam" and it was done for both Muslims and Jews. Today's generation are more open for change and will be happy to see Yemeni Jews visit Yemen after the war is over. Signs of cultural presence of Jews still very strong in Yemen. In my home town of Taiz there's the burial of a famous Rabi and poet named Shalom Shabazi. I wish one day we will all live in peace and talk to about our similarities which are much more than differences, but politicians on Israel and Arab countries will always keep their people apart. Thanks for the video

Btw, I love the old Yemenite chanting and songs, the ones before Ofra Haza made them popular--though I respect her singing. The thing is, cultures evolve, so Yemenite culture can never be the same as it once was. I have prayed in Yemenite neighborhood synagogues and seen men drink coffee and chew qat during Shabat services. Hahahah! That's something you won't see in many synagogues. Yes...some do. However, after a while you can see a difference, such as the face features, they tend to have bigger noses (no insult intended) and other small details. You do have some point tho, Spanish ppl are supposedly descended from Arabs. Not surprised, since Spain/Portugal are very close to Morocco and many Spanish Jews went there centuries ago to escape persecution. Now that population has decreased drastically.
@lesleyamiroly64015 жыл бұрын
@@ms.sanchez3924....Pierto Ricans are NOT Spaniards. We don't even speak proper spanish (thankfully). We were originally Taíno Indians. However, because of the enslavement of the people by Spanish conquest, which was then followed by an American one (with their mix of English, Scottish, Irish and God knows what else), along with the african slaves that were brought there, we now come in all colors with a variety of features. You mention "big noses". My Father had a big nose. He also was fair (mestizo) with blue eyes, while my great grandmother was Indian and africano. +theaverageteen99 ... there was only a handful of Jews in Saudi Arabia mostly in Hijaz, in 1930 they had to move and the kingdom of Yemen welcomed them.. some also moved to Aden it was the most modern city in Arabia (then) and a large and well off Jewish community
@arabian_semite_99668 жыл бұрын
njguynorth80 Although the city of Najran south of Saudi Arabia. was one of the largest cities for Jews... did they also migrate to Yemen or directly to Israel ?? Now just to let you know that during ancient times Jews were living in many Arabian cities in the (Hejaz) like Khaybar, Tayma and Al-Ula and there were communities in (Najd) in the cities of Ha'il and Buraidah. And there were also some who lived in the Eastern region as well... But in Modern day Saudi Arabia you are right most of them were only living in Hejaz and in the south near the border of Yemen, due to many reasons. I actually know an old Jewish lady who still lives in the city of Khaybar, her family dates back generations... its sad to see her history erased.

It’s a problem from a mix of poverty religion and lack of education. Less than 100 years ago it was normal to not wear a hijab in Yemen. I wish people cared more about women in the Mid East especially Yemen because it truly is the worst.

Would anyone be able to tell me if that is true, and if there is a big mixture of Moroccans, and Ashkenazis, Sephardis, Ethiopian, & Eritrean Jews, etc.? I was also wondering why they wear Black tallits, and most importantly where could I learn their Hebrew online? Thank you, and shalom!

Moroccans were the biggest ethnic group in Israel until the 90's (it changed with the end of the URSS when many Jews coming from Russia, Ukraine, Yugoslavia and the rest of the ex-URSS country). Moroccans at the beginning were marrying mostly with other Moroccans, and fellow North African Jews (Algeria, Tunisia, Libya), as well as other Jews from Arab countries, Roumanians, Turkish (since Jews from these countries were placed in the same villages and towns in the periphery of Israel - where Palestinians used to live). So in Israel, you can find many Moroccans who are fully Moroccans, even after 3 or 4 generations, but you can find also a lot of mixed Moroccans. I am Moroccan Muslim, I have many Israeli friends, some of them are 100% Moroccan, some of them half or a quarter.

the yemeni hebrew language does resemble the real hebrew language much more than modern standart hebrew... with the letter 3ayn and 7af you acutally recognize it is a semitic language together in the same language family with aramaic , arabic, berbic and those east african semitic languages.. modern hebrew sounds kinda like a fake european interpreation of hebrew, kind of how a english person or a german pronounces old latin language instead of a italian reading and pronounceing latin. The italian will be much more on the original side how the language was ment to be spoke n. The lack of the sharp h (7aa) and the rolling R in modern hebrew makes it sound very unpleasant like a german trying to read arabic
@mujemoabraham65226 жыл бұрын
habibi 030 The reasons why the modern Hebrew sounds German because of the Ashkenazi people who revived it in the first place and borrowed many Germanic/Yiddish sounds into Hebrew so they converted the Semitic to Germanic / Anglosaxon language in sounds or Westernized the language in order to suit their foreign tongues as they were unable to pronounce pure Semitic letters like: Qof , Hhet, A"yen, Ssadi, Ttet and Resh details as follow : 1- Qof changed to sound like K 2- Hhet changed to sound like german CH ( KH ) 3- A"yen changed to sound like A 4- SSadi changed to sound like german Z ( TS ) 5- TTet changed to sound like T 6- Resh changed to sound like german R ( GH ) So when you hear modern Hebrew it sounds like German and funniest part when a Yemeni Israeli or Mizrahi speaks a Semitic language with the German accent. It's weird. I've watched some of these videos and some people sound like they're scared answering some of the questions. As if they're scared to be labeled unpatriotic or being accused of treason talking about the country they've come from. I might be wrong but it almost sound like they think the interviewer is a secret agent trying to get them into trouble. Is it frowned upon to be proud of where you/your parents are from in Israel? I'd understand the pressure from the government of course. They wanna make a national identity and all these "foreigners" from around the globe might find it a bit hard with different cultural backgrounds and languages.
@guywhousesapseudonymonyout42726 жыл бұрын
@Sim I think these are your subjective impressions.Israeli Jews are generally patriotic Israelis and they are often proud of the Diaspora Jewish culture of their family.There's no contradiction between the two things. In fact, Yemenite Jews in Israel tend to be prouder than most. However, Corey often reads from a script of prepared questions in these interviews. One of his standard questions is "Would you want to go back to [COUNTRY X] to live?" In the case of many Israelis, these were countries that were hostile to Jewish life. Additionally, most Israeli Jews are several generations removed from a direct ancestors who lived in these countries. Especially a country like Yemen, which is a country that is currently in the throes of a horrific civil war, and where Jews were denied equal rights for centuries, and most Israelis of Yemenite-Jewish heritage are 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th-generation Israelis (the first large-scale immigration of Jews from Yemen to the Holy Land in modern times was in the 1880s), the question has to sound absurd to most Yemenite Israelis. I think the reason he asks these questions is because many anti-Israel people have the perception that Israelis are essentially alien to Israel and are basically just a motley crew of Poles, Moroccans and Yemenis who would instantly prefer to go back to those countries if they could. But in 2018, most Israelis have little or no connection to these places aside from scraps of family folklore. It doesn't mean they're ashamed or in denial -- it's quite the opposite -- but their primary attachment is to Israel.

Why were the Jewish people exiled to the four corners of the world? To spread the knowledge of The One True G-d.
@rockinrodney50007 жыл бұрын
That's not it. They were exiled because they were conquered by empires, and smart empires know that the local population of a new conquered area could revolt, hence the empires exiles different peoples from different places to have a mixed population. It's merely a strategic move to reduce the chance of revolt, making the Jewish people split up and thus be smaller in numbers by each conquered seperate territory.

Because they were persecuted in Yemen and also in Israeli society there can sadly be stereotypes and prejudice against different sub-ethnicites, including Yemenite Jews. They don't know why he's asking them these questions and what are his intentions. It's a sensitive subject in a way with painful history.

Yemeni Jews are often called Yemenites. Not sure why. In Hebrew both are called Temanim.

Yemeni - singular male Yemenia - singular female Yemenies- plural English vernacular Yemanien - plural Arabic vernacular Yemenite - kind of offensive to some. Not really a true word but some have said it was/is used by Ashkenazi in a derogatory way, so I have herd.
