Etho MindCrack SMP - Episode 105: Horse Drag Race

Today's episode is a combination of lot's of little events that happened while collecting the materials needed for our build project. Later we begin construction on the new project.

Etho note when building this horse speeds vary from 4.5 blocks per second to 14 blocks per second. The minimum distance building this (I would recommend) is 28 blocks long since horses can travel at half speeds (i.e 7.5 or 8) so 28 blocks long = shortest distance and perfect accuracy but if you want more accuracy (if you are paranoid) make it a multiple of 14 (since fastest block per second = 14).

It's funny how I learned about Etho, I went in to a bathroom in a Carl's Jr. and there was Etho's Lab written ont the seat. I was sitting on the computer one day and found GenerikB's channel and I watched the MindCrack trial and saw you and remembered about the toilet seat and subed right away.

For the drag strip have a dome shaped roof with red stone lamps spaced out every 5 blocks. The lamps will be lined up with the second row of coal blocks

Speaking of witch, every tick of a repeater is 0.1 seconds which makes it convenient for you so all you would need is a 3 or 4 digit display.

You must be new here... When the MindCrack server started on a new world around the first week of last month, they set health regeneration to UHC mode, and although they originally planned on turning it off after defeating both the Ender Dragon and Wither boss, they just left it turned on for now anyway, as it really makes survival more dangerous with having to use Golden Apples alone to recover health! Also they setup a health regen. beacon outside the town hall at spawn anyway :P

Etho, you should use trip wires to activate the redstone lamps as the horse goes down the track so that the racers have a way to check their progress and because I think it would look cool :D

Etho For the lighting i think you should use trip wires that go off as the player rides his horse by them to give them an example of how fast they're going. although it would be quite expensive. totally worth it!;)

For the lighting for the track you should use a fat night sensor to trigger pistons to bring out lights in the red and white pattern

For the entrance on the track, you should make a horse head with an open mouth. You could then make a tongue out of red clay where as a "red carpet entrance thingy".

I will sit here and prove my point, even though im probably wrong, the wiki does say the max is 15 hearts, those horses still have those 25 or whatever hearts, and it takes longer to kill them, but that will probably be removed later on in the game.

A suggestion to the Horse Drag Race idea would be to add a "Hi-Score" type thing to see who has/found/bred the fastest horse.

Hey Etho, long time suscriber :). I was just thinking about when you were putting down the red and white clay blocks at 21:00 and I was thinking that you should save that for a horse grand prix :D. The race track would be oval shaped like those Nascar tracks and maybe the whole server can race some time. Hope you read this, keep up with the great vids!

You could give it a 2-digit number. Make the track a timed event but also with height interval hurdles. Example: if you make it over the third hurdle with a good time you might be scored a 38. 3 for the hurdle and 8 for the speed.

Guys, it's not like adding enchantments to armour and weapons. Breeding two awesome horses, let's say a good jumper and a quick one, is never gonna give you a quick jumper. As you breed, the offspring's abilities will always lean to average. There is a chance of finding a perfect horse, that has naturally spawned though.

Make light holder things out of wood instead of clay or stone, that would probably look better. Also a black/white wool checkerboard finish banner is a must

The horse drag race road looks good here so far, but I am a few eps behind still, so I can only really comment on what I think of it at this point, keeping in mind that you probably have already made a lot of improvements to it anyway haha! It is quite an expensive way to do a road though, with using all those coal blocks for it, but I guess having all those Fortune picks really helps to collect coal at a much quicker rate, so that you'd end up with tons of the stuff for using :P

They're hard to find and I believe everyones trying to stay somewhat close to spawn so when a new terrain update comes they don't have to travel miles.

Etho when you where saying jumping is very variable , maybe you should make a jumping things beside/ at the end of the racetrack and have about 5 different stages , gradually getting to higher jumps as the course goes on. For each one you do your horse gets a "jumping level" so if he's good at jumping and gets to the fifth jump he would be level 5 or if he gets to the 3rd he'd be level 3 and so on... like so he can see!

Etho, the horses stats are not affected by the parents according to the minecraft wiki, so breeding those two horses is no different than any other horses being bred.

Etho! May i suggest that you get a enderchest and use it as a backpack for the extra inventori space you were complaining about. You will get it back by using a silktouch pickaxe. That way you could get more materials back home when you mine. Good luck.

You should make a horse Olympics to judge how good your horse is, you could use the drag race, you could see how high it jumps, and health and compile it as rating. So you could multiply the number of blocks it can jump vertically by 2 add it's health in hearts, and then subtract the time it took to complete the race. So sat a horse could jump 3 blocks, had 14 health, and took 4.5 seconds on the track. It's rating would be 14.5 points!.

Hmm...Well Etho, for the front you could put a white horse standing up on two legs possibly like it is jumping or something of the sort, and possibly put you riding on its back.

About the racetrack, having the arches overhead made it better in my opinion. Gave it a more realistic feel. Just a suggestion! Your vids rock!

You could use red and white carpets for the racestrip line next to the asphalt and hide lighting under it. But more imporantly! Either on the drag strip or the possible race track, you should have those inflated commercial archers. Then people could place signs on them advertising their shops.

they should make it so that you can enchant horse armor and have all different enchants that can go on the horse armor so that you can make you horse faster jump higher and even have more health and of course not die as fast, this would be so cool and you guys should tell dinerbone and the others that they should do that

The hearts tell you if the horse is fast or not. If the horse has less hearts is fast, The more hearts it has the slower it is.

It's actually a glitch, all foals will show 26 hearts, but their real health is lower, and reloading the world will make the hearts go to normal.

Etho for a jump calculator you could have a pressure plate and when the horse jumps it starts a timer and then you turn that time into a distance using how fast horses jump

For lighting, I kind of think that the redstone lamps just on top of the red/white clay is boring... I love the overhead lighting though! And the stone brick arch with glowstone fits really well with the gutters and the build so far. Even if not the stone brick design, I think the overhead lighting is a lot nicer looking. Just my opinion

You should make a parcour with obstecals that you can go over or around but around takes more time, so its not just how fast your horse is, but also how high it can jump and how good you are at jumping, it would make races a lot more versatile. I know its not a drag race anymore then but yeah

Hey Etho , When I'm in a tight situation or I'm list under ground I dig up. Before I dig up the 5 blocks I dig a 1x2 in front of me in case I need to go in it because of lava. Then pillar up after I know there is no lava above.
