Etho Plays Minecraft - Episode 395: Weird Style

I posted a poem on Etho's last episode about him making the machine, and a lot of people liked it. So, I thought I would write another about this episode. If people like it, I think I will try to do one every episode. Hope you enjoy! First Etho fought an iron Gollum, But it ended with his body laying solemn. Though his buddies tried to hold him back, He gave Etho quite great whack. Etho's intro was poorly thought out, For a creeper and spider were lurking about. They ambushed Etho on the path, He was about to feel the creepers wrath. The attack was as flawless as could be, Yet they didn't get Etho's tree. Etho paused the game in fright, As the creeper hissed with much delight. Etho knew that he was doomed, Yet he still resumed. The creeper blew a hole in the path, It had gotten the last laugh. Then he went to make sheep fly, But it failed with every try. Then Etho built a room that was quite queer, Maybe he will fix it in another year.

For the new redstone lamps you put in the ceiling. You could try getting a minecart or two to circle around on top of them, activating them by detector rails. I think it would give the lights a cool effect.

Might want to try some sort of cell storage system for the minecarts, like only 1 in each section at a time, should be relatively easy to control them, but maybe spacious?

I have made one in the past with a water system (understandably not nether usable) and it worked wonderful. A piston would move to allow movement into the off-loader, and then slime blocks pushed up and to the side, where they once again entered the water street.

It's not hard to control it tho. you can set it up as a ring counter. so for each time a sheep has returned, a new one is sent out. (or sooner even, depending on where you put your return detector). I'm at half a mind to go creative and make one just to show an example of how to do it.

Might I suggest having lava over glass in the nether hub ceiling? It would provide light and a contrast to the nether brick. You might also consider using the same design for the symbols on the floor.

For the nether hub I think that it would be really cool if you made it so that the ice kind of expands upwards, sort of like upside down ice roots on the ceiling. a funnel of ice!!!

There are people who put 0 effort into their videos, and they have millions more subscribers. It's weird to say this about such a huge KZbinr, but Etho is really underrated. Although Etho is a much more capable commentator, and is by far more entertaining, he doesn't get as many likes because he doesn't beg for them. Hey Etho! For the sheep farm you can use a single track that goes up and down and, when it goes down, a fence gate stops it from continuing on. Every time a Minecart is launched by the slime block it passes on top of a pressure plate to open the fence gate behind it (and all the minecarts behind do the same)!

Etho, I think the new Nether Hub design is AWESOME. It's very mysterious, and almost looks as if it's hiding some long-forgotten ancient but powerful technology. Besides setting up the lights, I don't think anything needs to be changed. As for the lights, I think you should power them with two minecarts running along in circles. Each on a separate track, going in opposite directions. That way it can create a visual "Doppler" effect of sorts. -Erdrick P.S. Looking forward to Episode 400. I'll agree that a Rube Goldberg device would be a nice celebration, but I still want to see what's behind the second door...

Etho, I know I'm probably campletely crazy for saying this but I actually really like the nether hub with all the weirdness...with one exception: the ice. The ice needs to go. Also, I had an idea for your desert village. You should incorporate endstone into the builds and or the paths. Endstone has a similar color and texture so I think it would go pretty well. It might need some leaves next to it though. Try it :D

If he wants to go for a "balanced" color scheme, a deep cyan/turquoise (like cyan wool) would be the natural pick. However, I think a nether hub is better off with a more sinister scheme, so I would stay away from the blues and greens and either stick with purple as the highlight color or add a red.

Edit: If you do switch the ice, or even if you dont... you should move the ice on the ceiling up one block, or if quarts you could use slabs if it seems to tall... i just seems too flat to me

I must be the only one that really, really liked the ice! One look at the structure in the middle of the hub and I was in love. It looks amazing! Awesome contrast with the darker colours elsewhere, and I guess contrast with the fire theme of the nether in general. It's super cool.

My eyes :O I loved the clean look of the old nether hub, it was a nice change from the craziness and business of the majority of the buildings. In particular it was a nice change from the business of the netherack. I was so excited for the dome. As a side note, a minecart town, set up similar to a model train town would be awesome where you hop on a cart and it takes you through a tour of the town with villagers doing stuff.

Etho, I think that for Episode 400 you should do something with General Spaz or Jeff... or both because you haven't done anything with either of them in a long time (I think the last appearance of either of them was before Episode 200 (I know that Spaz has only appeared once since Episode 100)). Also, it would be awesome if they tried to team up or something. Thanks for (almost) 400 amazing episodes and I hope that there are many more episodes to come.

Love the new hub! The floor is my favorite part. For the nether rails you should make a glass tunnel over the open areas. Then you could make some type of fancy bight tech looking suspension system (like the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge) or you could applet it using fancy arches.

The weird-style nether hub is actually quite awesome. The glyph-type things on the floor in netherbrick give it a cool ancient-temple-ish feel, and teh netherbrick structure in the center is just what it needed. The strip of glowstone lamps is cool too. I tell you what really bugs me about Etho. His lack of confidence about his work. I don't get all the dislike to the ice. I think it looks great. In fact it makes me want to use it myself. Go against everyone else and go as they call it odd/different.

Honestly, I think that the new nether hub is one of the best things Etho has ever made. The Nether is supposed to be strange and weird, and I love the designs both on the ground and the ice on the ceiling. The colors don't quite work, but I still think it looks really cool. Great episode!

I like the style, quite a lot actually! The things on the floor look like runes, and go with the weird contrast of purple and sandstone! And the ice in the middle, although it's a bit out of place in a fiery place like the nether, it helps accent the middle of the room, which would otherwise be pretty dark in color.

I love the style of the nether hub, just the random colours for eye candy. Its a little different in other builds you've done, so its not medieval, modern or anything like that. Keep up the great work Etho :)

EthosLab Place the chickens in sections, so that every 1/3 of a side there are at least two lights on at a time, meaning, for every side there are at least three lights lit all the time.

For the sheep farm, have something like Sethbling's pez dispenser where it releases a sheep every so often, makes them bounce up, and then go back to the top of the dispenser, and the dispenser has a clock that turns it on after the sheep finally gets back at the top. Plus, with the clock you could wire a lever to the top (where you shear them) so that you could turn on or of the system as not to cause lag and so the sheep can regrow it's wool.

Make a sheep cart Pez dispenser. - The nether hub looks good like that. The nether is sort of the embodiment of chaos in Minecraft. I would maybe add lava columns next to the ice in the center.

For the red stone lamps, have a mine cart go around in a circle in the nether hub with a bunch of detector rails to set off the lamps. This will cause a cool wave effect with the lamps.

Hey Etho, as for the light in the nether hub, you can make a somewhat large pen for the chickens (maybe 2 or 3) and a very few amount of pressure plates, than when the chickens step on the pressure plate make the light turn on clockwise (one light after another) or some other form of tuning on. still has the random effect and it turns all the lights. also you can put the pen pretty far away so you wont hear the chickens.

You could unpower all the powered rails when one of the sheep goes over the first detector rail, and power them when the sheep hit the other detector rail... I think that would work because all the sheep would stop, and the one that was going would start moving them all...

I like the hub. You should put a bunch of lights in the central pillar, maybe some in the archways and behind the ice. If you do the minecart invert the lights so you have more light all the time. But I just had a great idea for redstone controlled lighting! Break it up into multiple segments with a clock and a hopper/comparator and each light with a signal strength checker. Normally each segment triggers the next before resetting, but you might be able to find a way to override it and have multiple signals running at once, like if you wanted to set up redstone to call a minecart or change some track or portals around it could be a good "working" indicator.

How to do the sheep buffer: Place a snaking rail line in a way so that there is space on one of the sides parallel to the sheep launcher. Run a rail straight down through the extra space you left. Have a two direction junction controlled by a torch that is on a switch dependent on the glass locking system you have now that flips the rail for a second to let one cart through and then close again. You will need a 2x2 buffer for the landing cars. It will make sure the cart gets injected back into the loop, depending on the size of the loop and the number of cars this doesn't have to be perfect. Have all the pieces controlled by a clock and/or timers. It won't get too big, you can probably get the amount of rail line you need in the space you have. Mostly you have to worry about having enough spacing between cars, but using some good times will fix that pretty well. Have the latch that controls the junction from the buffer to the loader have a detector rail that flips the gate back off when the cart passes the entry. Then just have a pulse go out how ever often you need to open it up, it will stay open until the next cart then close right up.

oh my. for some reason i really love that design it looks awesome. normally i am really creeped out by strange markings and such. but for some reason those just are quite ascetically pleasing and fitting for the nether without making it look satanic and evil.

There is a system you can use for the sheep system. You place a block every three blocks so that there is a two wide gap in between each. You lay powered track along it. When the track is powered, the minecarts travel across it freely, and when the track is unpowered, the minecarts lock into place. but because of the incline provided by the blocks in every third place, when you power the track again, the carts start moving again. You could use a variation of this to ensure there are no backups without having to manage each individual cart.

If you aren't pleased with the ice in the nether hub, think about white stained clay, instead. Since it has that pinkish tint, it would fit in while still providing a light color up the column and into the ceiling.

The nether hub is very surrealistic. I would recommend changing the floor's netherbrick with quartz, since it would fit even less well. Surrealism and wierd patterns are the best.

Nether hub looks cool - very creative. You could try matching the strange patterns of nether brick on the floor with ice patterns on the ceiling to balance the ice block within the build - would probably look sweet as well!!!

Ok heres my thoughts. First, do do a rube goldberg machine. Exited for that. In the nether hub get rid of the ice and you could maybe do a circiut board pattern on the floor w/ nether brick. Also i know how to get your sheep farm to work. You could make a buffer of the minecarts where they are stacked up on top of each other. At the bottom is a straight power rail. Behind that, a block comes up every time a minecart finishes jumping and the minecart at the bottom of the stack on the power rail will go. This way, you can have as many minecarts as you stack up. Hope that was clear and keep up the amazing vids.
