Minecraft survival. Today we check out the tipped arrows and try to figure out what works and what doesn't with them. Then we try out the dragon fight again to collect a huge supply of dragon's breathe.

horses can jump up to 5.91 blocks high. If you try to get a good horse by breeding you need to measure the jump height as accurate as possible, because you'll only get small improvements in the end. Example: You have two horses with 4.51 jump height. They breed a foal, that could jump 4.61 high, which is a huge improvement at this stage. With your current setup you couldn't even measure this improvement. Ways to get more accurate test results are using blocks that are 1/16 high (carpet) or even lilypads (1/64). Also by doing some math you could use leaping potions to get even more accurate results. A leaping x potion increases the internal jump value by x times 10%. I showed in a video how you could use that to get more accurate results. You could also simply compare two horses, that seemingly have the same jump height. One might jump over a higher obstacle with a leaping potions and the other doesn't.

the current rough setup he has in thenpen, is the exact jumping height of thenhighest jumper, he has a jumping thing a bit further away. carpets floats above eachother when you plan them, and lilypads only work onmwater,msomthe snow lahers he is using are the most efficient. though the potion of leapjng sounds pretty good, if he can be bothered to do that :P

ThSadomasohista dude check your spelling, it's horrible example: horse can jump 4 3/8 blocks high according to Etho's measurement. Let the horse stand on carpet and see if it can clear 4 4/8. If it can, when it's standing on carpet => horse can jump at least 4 7/16 high. shouldnt be too hard to understand that.

+ilmango I get what you're saying about the accuracy of the jump height testing, and yes, 4 7/16 is a big improvement from 4 3/8, but the problem is that lily pads and carpets don't stack together to form blocks the same way that snow layers do. Though, yes, something like lily pads or carpet would be more accurate, using the snow layers is the most practical and effective way of testing jump height currently in the game. Hope this helps clear things up :^)

GD TheRealFish I don't get what your point is. Even if you use carpets or lilypads to further improve the measurement you still need the snow layers. It's not a lot of effort to put down some carpet to thoroughly check every horse that is seemingly on par with the current 2 best horses. Getting an exceptional horse by breeding requires so much effort, it would be a sin not to use the best measuring method. If you breed your best two horses together you can expect a horse, that can clear 5.5 blocks after about 1000 iterations, but only if you recognize exactly what your 2 best horses are.

+Etho Looking over the horse math, you have to breed a 5.4 with a 5.5 and get 5.5 on the randomize to get a 5.5 horse (5.4+5.5+5.5=16.4. 16.4/3=5.4666). 5.4+5.4+5.5=16.3, and 16.3/3=5.433333 which would likely get rounded down. I think at a certain point the only way to breed on par with what you want is to actually get a horse that can jump at that level. I don't really do horse breeding so I'm only going off what I thought you explained, but that's how the math adds up.

I've left this comment on several videos since elytra was released: tipped arrows can be used for eternal flight (actually they don't need to be tipped, just prevents death) Fly around, and when you're losing altitude, hit yourself with a regen arrow fired from a punch II bow, as far as I remember, you get like 10-20 meters from each hit from an arrow, as long as you have arrows/infinty, and durability on your bow and elytra, you can fly forever.

You have to take your armor off for invis potions to work. You can be holding an item. If you get too close to mobs they will agro. It also doesn't work when the mob(s) are already agro'd at you, like those pigmen were.

+EthosLab With invisibility potions, i will not remove aggro if you apply it after they are aggro on you. If you apply it before then aggro them, they can still follow you around as if you don't have it on. Invisibility potions only prevent aggro by reducing the range that aggro mobs can see you down to 7%, but for every piece of armor you have on it adds 17% to the range I believe.

Etho the invisibility probably works, but you have to take your armor off! Then you can anger them and they won't see you. If they are tracking you already, they will keep tracking you even if you don't have any armor on.

Etho, the reason the pigmen could still see you might have to do with the fact that you were wearing armor still-- Mobs can see you at a certain range depending on how much armor you have while you're invisible. It also may not effect zombie pigmen after you've aggravated them.

invisibility doesn't work if you have armor on or are holding something. The dragon could have a mechanic where it will swoop for an attack only if you aren't looking, it makes sense from a predator standpoint.

Etho, the reason jump potions didn't work on slimes and guardians is because that's their normal motion pattern, so they never actually jump. Like you saw with the rabbit, it increases jumping height, but not the general movement height.

I think the reason that the instant health and the instant damage potions didnt work was because they function separately from how normal potions work. They do a one time effect, versus an effect that lasts for a certain amount of time.

Etho, I'm pretty sure the zombie pigmen saw you because you were wearing armor. This might have changed since I last saw it tested, but if you're wearing armor while you have an invisibility effect, you can still be seen because of that armor. Also, I was going to suggest firing a regen arrow at the horse after the speed, but apparently that didn't work. I do hope they make regen arrows last longer. On another note, I really like these mess around videos. Watching you build and do redstone is interesting, but it's also really cool to learn about all the random details in this game. Etho, you can get mending books from Librarians! (currently the only way) so you can put mending on all your tools, armor, and most importantly Elytra. This is extra useful since infinite repairing does not work anymore with therenaming thing AFAIK.

Another thing that people need to realize about the horse project is that Etho isn't trying to get a horse with super high speed, one with super high health, and another with super high jumping ability. He's attempting to breed _one horse_ with _all_ of those qualities; i.e. a super horse.

Hey etho Instead of using a pumpkin on your head and getting that pumpkin over lay so enderman can't see you, you can use a texture pack so you don't have that blur anymore and looks like nothing is there. Keep up with the great work -kane
