Etho, it looks like your game ran out of memory at 35:58. The lag spike was garbage collection freeing space in memory and the game allocating more. You can see the allocated memory jump from 5728MB to 8192MB after the lag spike. If it has to do that again, it won't be able to allocate any more memory which could be what caused the crash. Minecraft is pretty memory intensive on its own, but when you add tons of mods on top, it gets pretty insane. On a modpack I play (with 340 mods), I see the game use upwards of 10GB of memory while initially launching and loading mods. After a few seconds of play, I can see it allocating over 11GB to the game. I have the maximum set to 21GB since my system has 32GB of memory, and I've never had any out-of-memory issues. What you can do is try to allocate more, but since you have 16GB total that can only go so far. Lowering your render distance could help too.
@EthosLab2 жыл бұрын
You may have saved the series, thanks a bunch! I spent a few hours today diagnosing it, saw it was a memory crash, upped the available from 8GB to 12GB... and it still crashed. I assumed if it was a memory issue then that should have solved it. After that I thought it was a problem with the chunk generation that wasn't getting written in the debug log, but I was having no success finding the culprit. I saw your comment and decide to try upping it to 20GB just incase. I got a major lag spike again but this time it was able to fix the broken chunk without crashing. I'm still not sure what caused the chunk(s) to require 12GB+ to load though.

If you did release the mod pack, there's sure to be many people out there that could help troubleshoot your issues. Also, it's likely that the crash you're experiencing is caused by a terrain update where sand has generated over a large cavern below the water, the update causes a cascade of falling sand that results in loads of item entities (ie the sand blocks landing on stuff that converts it to an item entity) and causes the game to crash.

Just for future reference, you can set Quark's speleothem generation to match its nether speleothem generation to avoid having your caves just *covered* in those stalagmites like at the start of the video. Quark's speleothem generation was designed for the older style of much smaller caves, so it makes extra passes to make sure they generate in at least a few places, but with the much larger cave systems suddenly all those extra passes are succeeding instead of covering up failed passes, which really clogs things up. The nether speleothems were designed for a much more open space, so using those numbers works well with more open caves like with YUNG's stuff.
@nalim90932 жыл бұрын
Hey, Etho, I don't know if you'll read this, but: 1. You need the engineering goggles to see the value of the speedometer and the stressometer 2. A water wheel rotates faster and can handle more stress the more of its sides have flowing water or bubble columns. using one soul sand you can have all 4 of its sides have that, spinning at 16rpm and handling 320su. You can also place waterwheels next to each other to increase stress capacity. 3. The best power source if the furnace engine, which is self-reliant if you connect it to say a kelp farm, and can handle 16k stress units. For small projects, windmils are also good if you add enough sails 4. When not connected to a conveyor belt, funnels either input or output items. The funnel you placed on the millstone was on input mode. You can click it with a wrench to change its mode 5. You'll probably figure it out, but a good way to connect the crushing wheels to rotate at opposite directions is to connect a large cogwheel to each, and another one perpendicular to those cogwheels

something nice to know when building contraptions in create: machines like the press can work directly on the conveyor belt. which is great because not only does it safe you some funnels and depots but the conveyor belt will stop while the machine is doing its action. meaning you can have all kinds of different rotational speed thingies in your machine without having to worrie about timing stuff. although keep in mind it only works for single action ehhm actions. so it can happen that you need to press something more than once for it to change into the desired product. you can obviously just add more presses onto the conveyor belt. but using a depot with a brass tunnel (which has a filtered output) you can save on space and machines. cant wait to see what you come up with this amazing mod. cheers

I hope all is well Etho. You are such an amazing, genuine person and you deserve more than “well”, actually. You have helped me through so many rough times, especially in the past few months and I hope we can help you through any you may have, now or in 10 years. I will always (or for as long as KZbin is around), check your channel for new updates or to watch an old series. Thank you for all you have unknowingly done for me and I wish you only the best.

Hey etho my brothers and I have been watching for 10+ years and I can’t express how much joy your videos have brought me. I think back on all the projects and series and I get so nostalgic. Chocolate island, don’t starve, terraria 1.3 is ez, hearthstone, CTMs, mindcrack, UHC, Cube world, day of the tentacle, sam and Max, hearthstone, modded series, Battlebane, Ark survival, hermit craft, that one game that’s like terraria but on different planets, that one rogue-like that you played for a month… the list goes on and on. Comment below if I missed any favorites because I want to rekindle the memories. We’ll be here when you get back so take your time and spend time with loved ones. Edit: the rogue like was called Sword of the Stairs; The Pit, and the terraria game is called Starbound.

U impacted my life in ways you will never know and I really appreciate u for that it’s been maybe 5 years since I watched your content and I still think about U every time I see Minecraft in anything ❤ thanks for positively impacting my childhood

I miss you, Etho! While painful to not have your amazing content for a while, you giving your parents your undivided attention is yet just another bullet on the list of why you're one of my biggest role models in life. Your unrelenting character, innocent child-likeness, and humility inspire me to be a better person. The fact that I'm saying this about a person who i've never met, never seen their face, and interact with solely through watching minecraft videos ---- is unbelievable. You and your parents will be in my prayers. Take as long as you need! I'll be here. P.S. Thank you for getting me addicted to Paramore lol.

You can attach more waterwheels to the system to give it more stress capacity, and thus let more stuff run at higher speeds without needing to slow things down to make it work. I usually put 3 or 4 side by side when starting out for that, since they're so cheap. Sure, there's stronger options later on, but for starting out, always best to use multiple waterwheels in a single system. The more stress capacity, the better.
@Otto422 жыл бұрын
Hey Etho, if you want to learn Create, then pay attention to where when you hover over things in JEI it says "Hold W to ponder". Try holding W and pondering about it. You'll like it. :) Edit: Also, you can put more than one waterwheel right next to each other to get more power in the short term and not have to downgear all the time. Long term, build a windmill.

I started watching you like 8 years ago. Pause and OldMan got me on youtube with Tuna Bandits on Rust, stumbled to their DVZ videos on Minecraft and found you featured in their videos. After hearing your soothing voice, and seeing that you were viewed as the wise guy of the group I looked at your channel. Watched your end of DVZ and then binged your Survival series with the Man Cave. I have enjoyed watching your channel for all of these years listening to your stories and seeing how humble you are. You remind me of myself, you have been my dedicated Minecraft KZbinr since I found your channel. I hope you get to read this and it makes you smile Etho. Peace and good fortune to you my good sir!

Hey Etho. I doubt you’ll end up reading this but I hope it might help a little. I recently lost my great grandma, lost both my grandfathers within the same year while I was 9. I held my grandfathers hand as he passed, and after he’d died I ran out of the hospital room crying. That made me realize that the only 3 people who genuinely cared about him where by his side. For the longest time my mom thought it was a mistake to let me see him, but it’s helped me a lot in my later years to deal with death as an ever lurking entity that we all must deal with eventually. I hate hearing “I’m so sorry” from a stranger when someone close to you passes away because it’s a conditioned response that has zero actual meaning. Instead I offer my condolences as a stranger who’s known you since being a teenager, and I genuinely hope you’re doing alright… I and many other people you’ve never met love ya, and we all wish the best for you.

Hey Etho! I would recommend watching Tango and Zedaph's Create mod series. They are both very short (unfortunate), but they both really nailed most aspects of the mod, especially Tango with his crazy furnace engine (I don't remember what it's called) but it's a condensed crazy powerful tileable power source. Love the series so far, can't wait to see how it goes!

I gotta say, he is the only MC KZbinr I watch. I'm sure most of us was here for the 'Minecraft KZbin golden age' and I feel like Etho was one of the rare few that knew their audience best, and adapted in the perfect way for his people. He has gotta be one of the most cared about Minecraft let's players to date, standing the times. I didn't know about his parents situation till very recently, and I'm worried. But remember my dude! Your community is here for you! You will always have somewhere to turn if you need it! God speed- you legend

Hi Etho. I think I was around 15 or 16 years old when I first came across one of your videos. Now I'm 25 in my first year of PhD. Although I havent been able to keep up with most of your videos you always have a special place in my heart and I try to check up on you every now and then. Its because I've learned english from watching your videos. Although I couldn't understand a good portion of what you said and you didnt have subtitles, I would tune into your videos and listen to your kindness. I always appreciated how cool you were and how kind you were. With time I started to actually understand you and learned english. I always consider you as one of my beloved teachers (might be the best one). Thank you for being yourself and touching my life, teaching me, having fun with me. I just wanted you to know this. I hope the people who brought my beloved teacher to this world gets well soon and I wish you the best.

Etho, I just wanna say that I am so sorry about your situation. You have done nothing but put a smile on my face from the time I was like 10 years old and your vanilla series started, and I have seen every single video you have made and now I'm 22 about to graduate college, and you are the ONLY KZbinr who I have watched so long, and 2nd place isn't even close. And the silliest part is I haven't even touched the game of minecraft in years, I just keep coming back because of you and the joy it brings me to watch. It sounds so silly but in a way you have become a part of my personal "family" and it makes me so sad to hear about your situation. I lost my father just a little under 6 months ago to a sudden illness and it was the hardest thing I've had to deal with in my entire life and continue to deal with, so I know that what you are going through is probably the hardest thing in your life as well. Every situation is different, so I can not say I know how you feel, but I do just wanna day that I know it is difficult, no matter the way it all happens for any of us, but I know we can all see it through together, even if it seems darn near impossible. You don't need us to tell you to take as much time as you need, but we will anyway, don't feel obligated to do anything and anyone that says otherwise can leave, come back when you are ready, not before, and if that is never, then we will stand by you just the same. Much love Etho, to you and your family and God Bless
