MindCrack is a server Guude started in late 2010. It is a private (whitelisted) server. We are currently not accepting applications.
We do a bit of exploring today and a few other random things.

It's not really an issue with the timing. The problem is that the mushrooms get thrown at random angles and velocities when harvested that may or may be within range of the player as he goes by. As someone pointed out, I'll just be able to press forward in 1.3 if the minecart gets stuck on a mushroom.

When you go through a portal, it figures out the corresponding location in the other world (by using the coordinates and multiplying or dividing the x and z by 8) and then searches for the closest portal to that location to send you to (if there are none near enough it will just make a new one). By placing portals in just the right place, it is possible to control which portal you will go to. You can even make one portal go to two different locations, depending on which side of it you stand in.

That is a pretty cool idea. But there is a flaw, if the detector rail powers the piston next to it, the player riding the minecart would have already passed the mushroom item and would therefore pick it up. Etho would have to wire the detector rails so they activate the pistons slightly ahead of it for it to work. But all in all, thats a pretty clever idea. Good job.

Yes, this may be because some people prefer Etho, or do not know of the other mindcrackers, showing their bases will give people a reason to watch others, it all helps in the process of getting them more views, and also being able to see Ethos point of view about the builds on the server.

In the mushroom track, you should put glowstone on the track, that way the mushrooms can't fall on the track, but you will be able to pick them up! Hope this helped

For the mushroom rail, just have the cart's launch delay a couple seconds to let the pistons do their work

Etho, if you put a half-slab cover on the your nether rail line, you wont need a timer. If the mushrooms fly off, they'll hit the cover and land on the stairs where you can pick them up.

Etho, if you are worried about the mushrooms stopping the minecart, if everything fails, remember in 1.3 you can move the minecart by just using the forward key

Etho,for the bread maker,at the bonemeal dispenser put a repeater to power it instead of just redstone dust. It fixed the jamming for me. Hope you see this and it helps!

About the bread-maker, Etho; Xisumavoid has a very cool breadmaker using a redstone lamp, also he has another wheat farm, that looks like like your idea with the minecart!

Etho you should make one portal a trap as a prank on anyone that tries to prank you. That would be hilarious. You could always switch it back to being useful after people figure it out.

I think a circular minecart farm would work best because if you plant one way you can miss some blocks, but going the same way bonemealing you would miss the same blocks as before. Also I am pretty sure that if you don't change anything the blocks you miss will be evenly spaced.

On the mushroom farm you can put powered rails on all blocks and when 1.3 comes out you'll just have to hold forward to keep moving.

that was a very good episode etho! Even though I don't think it looks as good as the portal room does now, but what first came to my mind when seeing the room was: One could place the portals in the middle of the room, with only one bar of obsidian in the middle (the portals left and right of it), so the portals make an uneven number together. Just to let you know ._. lol

For the mushroom railroad system you should use a water system and put half slabs at head height to prevent the water from destroying the tracks

Etho, If you want your mushroom track farm to work better, maybe try detector rails hooked up to each set of pistons instead. That way the pistons go off as you go by instead of timed with repeaters, you have detector rails already set up for you power rails, couldn't you space them to match the piston position? With detectors on both sides of the power rail, you could hook it up to harvest both ways as well. Please like so Etho can see, if anyone can get my idea to work, it would be him :3

To fix your wheat farm cart track, simply move the rail 1 block backwards, and then also give room on the ends to change to the bonemeal.

ETHO! All you have to do to fix your breadmaker is add a one tick repeater to each dispenser. Really simple, I did it on my smp server and it works fine.

When you want multiple portals going to different places follow this: 1. Find you're destination in the overworld first. 2. Put the Portal. 3. Find the z and x coordinates of the location, divide these by 8. 4. Go to the nether and find the number you got when you divided you're overworld coordinates. 5. Pace a portal in those coordinates and it works

WubbiConcepts made a bread maker like the one you had in mind Etho - if you're far enough away, at a certain angle, the regular minecart speed is enough to plant all seeds and bonemeal them.

the best way to make a portal fit into an 'odd number' room is to build the portal facing sideways. that way its 1 block thick and would be symetrical for a 1 block wide doorway.

Etho maybe try adding glass panes above the stairs next to your rails, that way they might stop the mushrooms and make it so that their still close enough to pick up. Dono if it will work just a thought :]

For your minecart track in the nether, you can put some blocs glass which will block the mushroom and don't let them fall on the path. PS: I'm french so i'm sorry if my english is bad ^^'

Etho, you can abuse the 'glitch' in which multiple minecarts in one spot will push each, even when not traveling on rails. I've tried it, and you travel at the perfect speed to keep the wheat farm going.

Hey Etho a cool design for a wheat farm would be a tower-ish kind. Where you would have several layers of dirt and the wheat would get collected to one spot.

In 1.2.3 there was a block ID changer, so you could change the ID in game of a block. In this case, he changed stone brick to the roundish stone brick.

Etho, for the mushroom rail line, how about each separate detector rail you go over triggers a small cascade of pistons directly ahead of it, instead of one detector rail triggering everything? That way the pistons can keep up with you! :D

His portals are just in the right range to link to the new ones he made. No portal mods on the server.

The way to fix that is to make a portal IN the nether. If you have a portal in the overworld that links to someone elses Nether entrance, do a bit of calculation to get closer to your exit and put another portal down in the Nether. (Every block in Nether=8 blocks in the overworld, direction stays the same)

Etho, I have an idea on how to make the mushroom farm work. You put a line of glass at head level, or you could put a block there and make it retract with pistons when the detector is activated. This opaque block would stop the mushrooms from going into the center, put would be pulled back to allow travel.

Etho, since you have multiple detector rails along the track to power the rails, why not try to have a separate timing circuit for each one. So the first detector would only power the first, say, 4 pistons, and the next detector rail could pick up where the previous left off. Seems like that would get a lot more precise timing for pushing the mushrooms, and easier to time as well.

now because 1.3 is out make a ice run with ice with a halfslab ontop and a block above you, this way it is faster and you can pick up your mushrooms... thumbs up so etho can see!

It's a place where, if you log out, and log back in, you will be on the next solid block above you. So if you make everything above you solid, you go to the top of whatever. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I'm pretty sure.

The big issue isn't getting the mushrooms to the player. It's keeping the mushrooms off the track so the cart doesn't stop.

For the rail line wheat farm, you should put soul sand underneath the rails, that should slow it down easily enough I would think.

When you go thru a portal it check for the closest one in the other dimension. When he made the new portal it was closer to his under ground base. The nether track is at almost the top of the nether world.

Etho for your nether track instead of using rail you could make an ice run, where half slabs are on ice, and a block above your head, it is much more fast, and you will pick up the mushrooms

Etho for the bread machine to be less likely to jam, I have found on smp if you put a block right in front of the tilled soil you will not be able to grab any seeds or wheat which causes the jams. Tested in 1.3 aswell. I put mine to a sticky piston and lever.

Etho, for the mushrooms, may i suggest iron bars or fences on the blocks adjacent to the track so the mushroomss get close enough to collect, but not so close that they stop the cart. Just an idea -Nepo

It'd be possible to push upside down slabs with pistons when you are not riding the track, and retract when he is not. there is not that much of a chance for them to spawn on the track when he is riding it, so it should be fine.

Etho, now that signs stack I have a perfect prank for you. Fill every block in someones base with signs saying names of people in the Mindcrack server. Place one sign with your own name so that victim has to find it to know who to revenge. It will take time to gather wood and place sings but I think it is very good since victim can't just mindlessly destroy every sign. Otherwise he'll never know who did it.

for the minecart wheat farm, you could make a small uphill after the booster rail to slow the cart down on the left, and then on right side you could do the same thing or you could have it just roll up another small hill and then roll back down if you get what im saying

if you had the pistons push the stairs down on top of the mushrooms, the mushrooms would only get pushed out one block and not land on the track, and the grass would not be destroyed because stairs are transparent blocks. please like so he can see!

If you do your minecart idea on a large scale, it'll work relatively well. If you did, say, 128 blocks of hoed dirt(Your track could do a snake-like thing in order to make it more compact), even if you missed half of it you would still get a stack. If it's more like 25% you could just make it larger.

I know you don't like having blocks in the way, but if you lowered the rail line and had the mushrooms fall onto the half slabs, you could pick them up as you went through and they would never fall onto the tracks.

You step inside, log out, rejoin, server does a check of the area and determines there is not enough room where you where last at and finds the next open spot above your XYZ.
