The problem with your leaf crusher was that in the update entities get pulled through pistons when you extend them. The leaves were getting pulled through the block and that was why the items were showing up behind the redstone. If you put a ring around it with hoppers at the bottom then you can collect the items without the annoying trapdoors. :)

He actually addressed that in a previous video. He tested to see if he could remove the branches of acacia trees and didn't bother with dark oak because they have to be placed 2 by 2.

Benjy Davies unless he would use a very sophisticated leaf crusher he wouldn't enough saplings back from dark oak trees. I don't think he can remove the branches. Sooner or later he'll have too many of them inside the chamber and the leaf breaking pistons would move each other.

I completely agree with you on 1.9, Etho. The people who claim PvP is ruined are just sad that they changed it at all. Before, all you needed was a vague timing on jumping and swinging for crits. Now there is legitimate skill involved. The Elytra wings are amazing, tipped arrows are awesome, and the command block simplification will cause bigger and better maps to be made. The End revamp was severely needed, as there used to be absolutely nothing to do there, and now there are dungeons to crawl in. Some of the new blocks look really nice and they will result in new, more interesting block combinations. Not to mention, Mending is incredibly helpful in the mines, and Frost Walker will be helpful for quick movement. The three things I don't like about the update are that I liked the way that strength potions were before, Frost Walker has completely negated the need for Depth Strider, and some of the new sounds are a little bit strange.

Etho!! They changed Monster Spawners some time ago, now the center of the 8x8 is right in the center of the block and not the X+ Z+ corner, but then the spawn area is actually 9x9 (Half of each boarder). It says so in the wiki

Makes sense. If you can move mob entities around by retracting a piston head, like in the elevator to the library, it could do the same thing with item entities - sucking them through the piston and placing them behind/above them.

Etho, it's now 9*9 for a spawner (or 11*11 if you want to allow zombies to spawn closer to the edges so their dimensions he are not obscured by he walls). I tried it in a piston blaze spawner farm, and tested it multiple times. Whether is also applies to zombie spawners is unknown.

1.9 thoughts: I like the combat changes for SSP; the attack cool-downs, the shield, the axe as a weapon, and the new skeleton AI make early-game survival much more challenging and interesting in my opinion. I look forward to finding a Mending book in a chest :) I love the new command blocks. I have not played in The End yet, so no opinion there. As always, I wish there were fewer bugs, in both the new features and the old.

Etho, the reason the sapling was disappearing when the piston retracted is because pistons can still pull entities through them. Note that you also used that same mechanic in your piston elevator that sends you to the library.

you could add a cool 'abstract' effect to the ghast area with the trapdoors. Maybe integrate the redstone and trapdoors in such a way the the aesthetic of the room is always randomizing and changing, either with open/closed trapdoors or maybe interchanging wall colors with pistons to move the colored clay blocks. Still like the look!

Hey Etho, if I remember correctly, as of 1.8, spawners spawn mobs in an 8x8 centered on the CENTER of the spawner now rather than the northwest corner, this means in order to get the max spawning area you need to go out 3.5 blocks in each direction. Since you can't do that, you need to go out at least 4, making a 9x9 room. So unfortunately not quite the optimum spawner location, but neat that it would have worked out. Keep up the great ideas.

It won't make a huge difference for you, but the spawning area around spawners was changed in a previous patch. It's still 8*8, but it's centred on the middle of the spawner and extends 3.5 blocks from the spawner.

Tried 1.9 Etho, and all the work i did with your E.A.T.S road, making a two-way version, creating a contraption that allowed u to go straight through or use as an elevator to another eats road on the next floor up, which also effectively acted like pez dispenser if loaded with too many boats, was for nothing. And my beloved boat(mechanic of floating when submerged) that got me into technical and redstone side of minecraft and eventually you, now sink and row on land, cats and dogs living together. Can't really say that I'm disappointed with 1.9 as i don't really pvp. but i will certainly miss the mechanic that allowed boat elevators. I'm finding that getting ejected from a submerged boat far more annoying than boats being fragile ever were, and wishing for the latter, (without the syncing issues of course). For exploration and durability the new boats are kings, for contraptions and interesting mechanics they significantly lack. Wished they had kept the old, along side of the new R.I.P EATS Alpha 1.2.5 - Release 1.89 keep eating your snacks

I have a lot to say so if you read it all, thanks. :) First, the crazy colors look quite nice. Not sure why, but I think you should keep it. You could give it a theme by making the ghast be an abstract art critic or something. :P Second, ice boat racing should be a thing if they keep that. (Maybe design something to get the boat back on the ice?) Third, I think the piston is doing that weird bug where it pulls stuff behind it with the saplings. Like the elevator you made. Fourth, I'm enjoying 1.9 quite a bit (especially the new command blocks). The only thing that bothers me a little are the bugs they left in. Overall it seems to be quite nice and not laggy. But I'd be curious to know how your world does on the full release...

Even though 1.9 didn't add many features, Minecraft feels *a lot* more polished now. People seem to forget that over 300 bugs were fixed this update, and there are other huge changes which affect performance like the behavior of particles. I feel like 1.9 was more about gearing the game up for future updates so things can work smoothly in the future. I think it's a risk the devs had to take sooner or later.

Concerning the saplings and the pistons, I think your problem is that in 1.9 pistons pull entities when they close. It's related to the feature that lets you do the transport tunnel for your elitra I believe.

I don't know, I think Skeletons are a lot less annoying now once you have a shield. Much easier to kill them without getting hit and knocked back repeatedly.

I seem to recall that they changed the mechanics of spawners to be centered on the middle of the block, not the corner. If that's still the case, the effective spawning area is now a 9x9 square.
