People asking why tension is not multiplied by two it's because in a single string there's only one tension force not 2 so 1 tension is halved in both sides but it's only 1.

why did you use tension for 'F' shouldnt it be the weight of the object since that is the force acting of the cables

The force is the tensile force exerted on the rubber band.

the mass is suspended which means the mass hangs at its rest postion. If either would be greater than the other that is (2ty and mg ) the mass would not be suspended. Hence 2ty= mg. Dont know about the elastic part but this logic is this

Why can't we just use W=mg

Weight mg acts on the mass, tension acts on the cord. Weight on mass is constant, but tension in the cord here greatly depends on angle between its two ends.
