Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Malone Seawing Kayak Carrier with tie downs. Part number MPG107MD.The Malone Seawing Kayak Carrier is a v-shaped saddle style carrier that enables you to carry up to one kayak on the roof of your vehicle. It does come with padding on both saddles to ensure the hull of your kayak won't get damaged or scratched once it's being installed. It also helps it slide in place much easier.This kayak carrier is designed to load it from the rear, and requires minimal lifting as once you get it onto the saddle all you have to do is push it into place and it's very easy. It also comes with the straps and the bow and stern tie downs to secure it to your roof. The buckles for the tie downs have this padded material behind it, also to make sure that the hull of your kayak remains protected.
This is excellent to use with most recreational and sea kayaks.It also has a nice low-profile design to it, both with and without the kayak, for garage clearance. The frame is made from a corrosion-proof construction, meaning this is going to have a nice, long life. Also we have the Jaws Universal Mounts here going around our arrow crossbars, but this will also work with square, round, elliptical, and most factory roof racks as well. There are no tools required for this installation, very easy.The overall dimensions of this are going to be 27-1/2 inches long by 6 inches wide by 4-1/2 inches tall. It has a total weight capacity of 75 pounds per kayak and this can carry up to one kayak.When comparing this with other products, one that comes up is the Swagman Exo Aero Kayak Carrier part number S65145.
Now comparing these two, the economic choice is going to be the Swagman, being slightly less expensive than the Malone Seawing. Another difference is going to be the carrying capacities. This is going to go to Swagman with 100 pound carrying capacity, while the Malone only has a 75. But as far as installation is concerned, that's gonna go to the Malone, because the Swagman has had complaints of its bolts being too long and having to be cut, because they do make contact with the customer's roof.Now that we've gone over some of the features of the Seawing, let's go ahead and show you how it installs. We have it laid out, as you would see it in the box after unwrapping it.
We'll have the two saddles here, the bow and stern tie downs with the hooks, the two tie downs for the actual kayak itself, the Jaws Universal Clamps with the turn knobs to tighten them down, and then we have two sets of hardware here.Now at this point you'll have to decide which set you're going to use. The longer is going to be what we're going to be using today since we have an arrow style bar attached to our vehicle, but if you had something like a square or a round bar, you might be able to use the smaller set. And these are just the covers for once you actually install this on your roof rack, then you would place them inside the saddles to take up that space.We're going to start by installing our rear saddle. So we'll take one of our bolts here. We'll drop it into place, pushing it all the way through, then take one of our universal clamps here and just loosely install our turn knob, like so.
Next we'll drop in our second bolt. You'll notice that it seats on the inside there. Now we can go to our vehicle and install it on our roof rack.Set it into place. Then we'll adjust it where we want the kayak to be. Once we have it tight, we'll take our fillers, put those at the top. Now we'll repeat this process for our front saddle. I'm just going to loosely install it for now, and then I'm going to double check to make sure that it's lined up. Tighten it down all the way.Now with everything tightened down and in place, we're gonna start installing our straps so we can get our kayak ready to load up. Load it through this top slot here, bring it back through the bottom and we're going to lay it off to the side for when we have our kayak installed. We'll just wrap it around it. And we'll repeat this for our rear mount as well.Now we're ready to install our kayak onto the rear. Before you do this, you want to make sure you put a mat or something on the top of your vehicle just to protect its finish. We have a mat lying around, so we'll go ahead and use it. Once you're satisfying with how it's sitting, we can remove the mat and start to secure this to our rack. Now we'll bring our straps that we laid out earlier over the top of our kayak and get them situated to wh

Great video demonstration. I will need to slide my yak from the rear forward... should I expect that to be a smooth process or will the seating want to “grip” the bottom moving the boat forward?

You should have no problems loading the kayak from the rear of your vehicle. I would recommend placing the back crossbar closer to the rear of the vehicle so that it makes it a little easier when loading. I have a Mazda CX-9 and am wondering if I can fit 2 Malone Sea Wings & kayaks that are about 30” wide on my factory roof bars?

extremely...just took both of my kayaks on my 4 runner, had j bars before this...best purchase i ever made.

It would be pretty easy for someone to take them off your car while you're out paddling. You'd have to remove these and put them back on every time you go out for a paddle. That would be annoying
