I drive an F350 drw pulling a heavy dual axle equipment trailer with hyd disc and the trailer stops miles better than the truck. The trailer is 12 yrs old now and needs all brakes replaced including calipers and mounting yokes. Parts only about 3500.00. Close to the cost of a small rear ender.

So if I’m doing disc on dexter 8k axles oil bath with the 5/8” studs I’d install the bracket at 12 o’clock or like you did in the video? Just ordered my kit! Electric brakes suck

In any event, be sure the/a caliper bleed screw is pointing upward or positioned so that any air at the very top of the piston will flow upward to the bleeder valve during bleeding.

@etrailer Жыл бұрын
They come by all the time. Dave just prefers to use channel locks. You can use a socket if you wish.... www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Kodiak/K2HR79.html

So the bearing and cups are not a matched set? What is the warranty?
@Drew-in-NoDak2 жыл бұрын
Never are a matched set. Only a good idea to keep them matched when they are used.

What’s the end play? A guess is not good. Need specs.
@Drew-in-NoDak2 жыл бұрын
End play according to timken is always 0.00 but no preload. If you can't figure this out leave it to the professional.

Shouldn't the studs holding the backer plate on be replaced with longer ones? There's not even close to full engagement between the nut and bolt.

Nice install. But I have two points of contention here… First how come NOBODY shows the full job including the actuator and lines? That’s the hard part. Installing a caliper and rotor is pretty much the same as installing a drum and loaded backing plate, if not easier. Second, when talking about the torque spec for the spindle nut you said something to the effect of “odds are you don’t have the right socket so just use these monster channel locks”. Seriously? You just spent, what, $1500-$2000 on this disc brake setup and you’re gonna draw the line at a $25 socket from Lowes?!?

kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4msiK2uetqkmbM That's part 1 of a 3 part series, Part 1 is installing actuator, Part 2 is the brake lines, Part 3 is the rotors like this video here.

I think the brakes are closer to $8k total

The trick also is not to drive faster than your equipment can stop you
@etrailer2 жыл бұрын
This is a great point! When connected to a trailer, your stopping distance is exponentially increased. www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Brakes/Kodiak/K2HR79.html

So you don't have to pack the bearings with grease when you use oil? Which type is better?
@etrailer4 жыл бұрын
No, it will be entirely oil based lubrication. It really is up to you whether or not you would rather grease the hubs or change the oil out of them. www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Brakes/Kodiak/K2HR79.html
@westtexastll19783 жыл бұрын
@@etrailer your "tech" didn't mention bearings require a few thousandths play/clearance, not *completely* seated in the races as bearings, regardless of lubricant choice, produce enough heat to cause the individual rollers to expand; if there is ZERO clearance/NO room for roller expansion, the bearings WILL overheat & burn the lubricant & potentially cause the oil seal to leak leading to bearing failure. PLEASE make a video replacing this one to include this critical info.

18,000lbs on a F-150??? He should have spent his money on a bigger truck, honestly

This trailer was being towed with a Ford F-450. He was looking for braking abilities that were equivalent to that of his truck. www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Brakes/Kodiak/K2HR79.html
