Hey, everybody, Ryan here at Etrailer. Today, on our 2020 Audi Q5 we're gonna be showing you how to install the etrailer.com trailer hitch receiver. But before we get into that, let's just take a minute, check this out and make sure it's gonna be right for you. With the Q5 being a really sporty and good-looking SUV, if it we're me and I was wanting to put a hitch on the back, I would want something that would look good, not be super noticeable. And out of the visible type hitches available, this one's gonna be my favorite. You're just gonna be able to see the receiver tube opening and it has a matte black carbide-type finish, which, in my opinion, looks a little more modern and almost comes off as a factory type option.
Now compared to another hitch available, it's called the Stealth Hitch, those are pretty neat. You can actually detach the receiver tube, so when you're not using it, you can undo it, and you won't even see a hitch there at all. It'll look completely stocked back here. The downside to that though is, if you plan on using your hitch a lot, that's something you're gonna have to take out and put in constantly. So if you plan on using it quite a bit, having this fixed one back here is definitely gonna be a good option for you.
One of the things a lot of people wonder is if the hitch will interfere with your hands-free lift gate assist, and the answer is no. Granted, you're gonna have to kick your foot to either side of the receiver tube opening, but it still will work and open up like it should. This is gonna be a class three hitch, so it has a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening. Super common size and a lot of different things will work with it. It is going to use the standard 5/8 pin and clip.
Keep in mind though, one doesn't come included with the hitch. If you need one, not a huge deal, grab it here at Etrailer, or a lot of times too, if you end up buying a new accessory, it'll come with one. So just something to think about. The safety chain openings are gonna be a loop style, and they're gonna provide us with more than enough space to use pretty much any size hook that our trailer might have on it. As far as the weight capacities go, the hitch is gonna have some really good numbers.
Maximum gross tongue weight rating will be 750 pounds. That's the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch. So a really high number, and you'll be able to use just about any size bike rack or cargo carrier that you'd want to, for example. As far as the maximum gross trailer weight rating is concerned, that's gonna be 5,000 pounds. It's gonna be the amount of weight pulling on the hitch, so that is the weight of your trailer plus anything you might have enter on it. I do always like to recommend though, never a bad idea just to grab your Audi's owner's manual. That way you can check in there and make sure your Q5 can handle that much weight safely. Now we can go ahead, grab a couple of measurements, and these will help us figure out what type of accessories will work best. If you go from the ground to the top inside edge with a receiver tube opening, that's gonna be about 15 inches. So if you're plan on pulling a trailer, chances are pretty good. You can use a ball mount that has a straight shank or maybe even one that has a slight rise. An inch or two should work in most scenarios. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the rear bumper, that's gonna be about three inches, which is really good clearance, so you shouldn't run into any issues here, but you can use that to help figure out that if any folding type accessories you might have can be stored upright without hitting the back of your Audi. Other than that, at the end of the day, this could be a great all-around hitch, especially if you plan on using it a lot. It's gonna look good, give you some really good clearance and capacity. So just about anything you throw at it it's gonna be able to handle. As far as the installation goes, I'm not gonna lie, it's easier than what you think it would be. You will have to remove the fascia. A lot of the fasteners are pretty easy to get to. There's a few of 'em that are a little tricky, but I'll show you a couple tricks that I use to kinda make that process a little bit easier. So, hopefully, that helps you out. But with that said, why don't we go ahead pull into the garage and put it on together now To begin our installation, we're gonna be here underneath the back of our Audi. And along this bottom, edge we're gonna have four fasteners that we need to remove. So we can grab our T25 and pull 'em out. Here's what they'

Hello, Does the car need to be flashed to use the trailer hitch ?
