Really digging this Saharan blues
@Omiiee29 күн бұрын
I wouldn't call it Saharan blues; it's more traditional. Somali, Ethiopian, and Sudanese from the 1970s/80s/90s all have this vibe, and they're not from the Sahara. Also, we wouldn't really consider this blues at all, tbh
@A_MapleBar17 күн бұрын
@@Omiiee I agree! I think up until the 90s and even 00s, the sound and feel of Somali, Ethiopian, and Sudanese, etc music is kind of a mix of traditional folk music sounds and funk and disco sounds that were very popular globally. I love listening to old songs that I find via old wedding VHS tapes, tracking them down to find out that somebody has graciously posted the entirety of the song to YT or insta!
@ikazur9916 күн бұрын
@@A_MapleBar share some names please!
@A_MapleBar12 күн бұрын
@@ikazur99 Here are some I have been listening to recently: Waaberi, DurDur, and Danan Hargeysa (all Somali bands) Roha Band, Admas band, and The Walias band (all from Ethiopia) For the African equivalent to Supremes, look to Sudan; three really popular bands from the 70s were Sisters Amal, Hayat Talsam, and Hadia. For other sounds you have Mohammed Wardi, Saied Khalifa, Aisha Musa Ahmad, Rejaf, Balabil, omad korom, Mustafa Seed Ahmed, Hanan Bulu Bulu, Mohamoud Abdulaziz, and Sharhabil Ahmed, Nancy Agag. As you can see, there is a larger chunk of Sudani musicians and singers here, that because most of East Africa looked to Sudan as the musical big brother. Still does. They got a head start is what my parents tell me.
