I did get EO3 even though I already own it for DS. I just play my Switch a lot more frequently so it made sense. I agree with this review that the map making seems super awkward. I set it to full auto map in the options (which helps a lot) however you still have to place icons for chests / doors / shortcut arrows and etc. Honestly I don’t know what else they could’ve really done to make it any better I suppose. EO2 Untold is my favorite of them all still.

I used full auto most of the time, and more or less abandoned thorough map making in the final third of the game. I'm glad it's here, but I'm not sure what the future looks like for this series.

They should have removed the mapping shit entirely but people make an uproar about making sure they can access their shitty pointless gameplay function

$40 is too high an asking price, $80 for three games is decent enough I suppose, but I can definitely wait for at least a 50% off sale

I wouldn't be surprised if we got a good sale on these games by the end of the year. Collections on Switch have seen some pretty steep discounts over time.

3 is the only one kind of worth the price. Unless you pirate , getting a cartridge its gonna run you 150-300
@aerostrider41x98 Жыл бұрын
(Also for context 3 is the only old EO that didn't get a Untold remix to make it unavailable on 3ds store. Making it the only one unavailable which made the prices horrible)

Anyone know if they nerfed the subclassing in EO3 for these HD version? Can you still get up to lvl 10 of the subclass skills like in the original game? Or is it only half like EO4? How about EO1 and 2, do they get subclassing now? Untold had Grimoires that made you have skills from other classes and monsters.

I wonder how similarly this plays to Sword of the Stranger, beyond the fact that they are both in the same genre lol
@nisbahmumtaz909 Жыл бұрын
Etrian Odyssey is legit a DRPG of its own league. I can't go back to any other games in the genre after playing EO.

Omfg stranger of sword city is like the great value version of any of these games. Do not compare these two games. This game is infinitely better in so many ways. For one the developers were not lazy like the people who make stranger and all the other games that same company makes. It’s a joke compared to atlas dungeon crawlers.
@Odinarcade00 Жыл бұрын
The thing is unless your ocd you really don’t have to mark anything on the map and no cartography is not the best thing about these games. It’s the art style and the other mechanics they add that keep the formula fresh. If I mapped everything myself these games would have so much padding. They are long enough as is. You can literally just grab some paper and a pen and the old wizardry if you really wanna have an experience but for me the auto mapping is a godsend because I’m busy role playing and analyzing enemies and choosing either risk or reward. Making up back stories for my character and just constantly grinding is the meat and potatoes. The cartography thing is definitely unique and old school and fun sometimes but definitely optional in my personal opinion.

There are some locked chests and doors you’ll for sure want to mark and come back to later, as well as spots that hold significance to some of the quests you get at the Butterfly Bistro tavern. For example there’s a spot on the first floor where it says would make for a good resting place - but not for you. I marked this with an annotation and sure enough there’s a quest where a guy is looking for a peaceful spot to rest up. Had I not marked this on my map I would’ve had to walk all over the floor again trying to remember where I saw that place.
@Odinarcade00 Жыл бұрын
@@DelDuio that makes sense. I would reckon it would be more useful on later floors though since the first floor at least to me besides the spot you mentioned was pretty easy to memorize I guess. I used to waste my time marking treasure chests when I played on the 3ds but that’s kind of pointless considering you open them and they are done after that and I really have just been using deductive reasoning to find everything lol I’ll probably regret that later but whatever
