I fell in love with the handmade watercolors from A. Gallo. They come from Italy, are expensive…but so very beautiful. And made with rosemary they smell so amazing!

I have loved jasper stardust. Even though i have added binders ( including early spring white honey ) I have gotten some wild granulating colors. Riverdale is another i have loved. Although i often do a furst rendition in either da vinci, 6:02 daniel smith, m.Graham , and then a more " artistic " rendition in Qor, Jasper Startdust or Riverdale..i switched from oil and the control over results to the magic of watercolor but to push it even further i used handmade paints that werent the same ol thing.

As someone who owns a ridiculous number of handmade paints I absolutely love seeing peoples handmade paint collections. I would say that people disclosing pigment numbers has definitely become more common in the last year as more brand ambassadors who work with small shops have wanted to now what's in their palette. I had the same issue with my Jazper Stardust paints cracking and I even had one crumble apart.

I'm really happy that more are sharing their pigment info, because it is important to know what pigments are in the paints you use. That is interesting about the Jazper ones. They reactivate really well even though they crack and crumble. I'm not sure what his binder is, but it is definitely not honey lol

Renee is my absolute go to. I love her paints and can use a lot of them for commissions. I also love StayceeIllustrations. They are also amazing and beautiful. My favourite for absolutely outstanding Lightfastness is KJ Designs by Karen. Iulie are also fantastic for Lightfastness as they have a rating for each paint. Azure Colours and The Art Spirits are lovely and I’ve just tried Archie’s Paints for the first time and had good results too.

Kourtney’s Paints-she’s got some hard-to-find’s and VERY generous dot cards for $1 (I got some of her new ones a few months ago, they peeled cleanly off the card..probably 1ml plus, squished them into 1/2 pans. Kourtney has a large selection of metallic/glittery as well as traditional paints. Kourtney gives pigment info as does Gregory below. I also got into mulling some of my own last year with my bestie (stunning PB33 being my favorite); but Gregory at Prodigal Son’s usually has some ready made full and half pans-quarter pans of some of the rarer, more expensive pigments. I’ll keep my mouth shut about Rick. 😖🤷🏼‍♀️

I once bought a Mrs Hand Painted tutorial which came with mini watercolor pans, Etchr 100% cotton postcards, and I think it was two watercolor tutorials with instructions. The paints and the tutorial(s) were very good. Have you ever considered handmade watercolors by A. Gallo and Greenleaf & Blueberry? That’s all I can think of off the top of my head. Last year I went through a nutty phase of wanting to buy real mineral watercolors. So I bought handmade genuine azurite and malachite watercolors. They were not very pigmented, but that’s probably the nature of genuine ground up stones. They looked nice on the website though! I like your Masha’s watercolors the best. I haven’t forgotten about the swatches of the granulating colors in your Etchr watercolor sketchbook. EDIT I imagined you used your Etchr watercolor sketchbook! 😂

I only own a few handmade watercolors and they are the honey watercolors that I adore above every other watercolor that I own. They are the designs by Karen and the CSY. When I can afford to, I would like to try some others. I would like to know what you think of the M Graham paints, I learned that they are also honey watercolors.
@watercolorwanderingwithk
@watercolorwanderingwithk Жыл бұрын
Yes, M Graham has a honey binder. Most handmade paints end up using honey binders just because others are too expensive and honey is quite versatile.

What a beautiful collection! I've recently discovered Della Magna and man I'm in love. All of Luca's paints are single pigment I think, and he has quite a few rare pigments. I have a genuine quinacridone gold which is gorgeous, and a handful of wildly granulating ones. I've been using them almost every day and they are so much fun to paint with

Thanks for sharing these beautiful colours with us, Kori! I'm not a 'sparkly paint' 'type', but that doesn't stop me enjoying the results of the craftsmanship of the artists who make handmade colours! Just a couple of thoughts: The first is, have you insured your art equipment - e is it on your home insurance as a separate group? Just looking at the handmade collection adds up to a lot of money on its own, which is what has prompted the thought, as you mentioned the expense a few times. (I also have had my plein air kits on holiday insurance, because one day I totalled up its replacement cost! 🤔Maybe I should do something about it now I'm painting in busier places, too...) Anyway, that's the more serious question... Second is about those lovely tins of colours, and it's only from watching this video. How about 'thinking outside the box' (no pun intended! )Instead of hiding them in a standard metal paint box, why not look out for a wooden box of the sort that the big coloured pencils come in, arrange the paints in their tins in it, grouped into appropriate sets, so that you lift out the box, lift the lid, and can see from the swatch card fixed in the lid which you want to use? Otherwise, all those beautiful little tins are just going to sit and gather dust somewhere and I think that you'd be overwhelmed with all the colours to choose from (especially the sparklies) if they were packed together in a big paint box. Maybe you even know someone who can make a box for you, and tailor-make a couple of trays to fit inside? Anyway, just a random idea. 😊
@watercolorwanderingwithk
@watercolorwanderingwithk Жыл бұрын
Yes, my entire art room is insured ;). Because it has more than just all of the paints, but I have pencil sets, markers, and more too. I've thought of combining them into a special box, but just haven't gotten around to it.

I went all-in with the A. Gallo 48 pan set (plus 4 more from Jackson's) only to find they don't work with my style of painting. I'm not casting shade: A. Gallo is a great company. But know your style and product characteristics before buying hand made watercolors.

Some of the colors in Jazper’s pictures do not match the real color at all… They are very expensive and not much different to cheap colors… (PS nothing to try was added to my package, not even a single dot card, which you receive from everyone)

I mean, as an Etsy seller myself, just regarding freebies, it is hard to always give away free items. We try, but sometimes you're out of stock of your freebies and still want to get the order out. So, I sort of never consider freebies much BUT I agree the paints were quite odd. I just wasn't super thrilled with them.
