I also think they also mark it as a gift because they think you’ll get it to them quicker! This is for my particular shop, and I personally always leave an invoice as it has all the personalisation they included so they can see I’ve created the item to exactly as they have asked for incase they sometimes forget or not realise what they have written or may have made a mistake etc..

exactly and if youre delivery date is lets say 30th then you will get it there by 30th not 20th coz they think gift mode is going to make them get it quicker ! seems like something to get etsy more money yet they dont pay us extra for it which isnt raelly fair - i can understand if someone chooses gift mode and message that etsy pays us like £1.75 each time then it would be worth our while but sellers are doing extra work and etsy gets richer lol we should complain about it coz at xmas etc if someone gets 15 - 20 orders the time they take to do a message etc is something etsy should be paying us extra for

Go to settings, then shop options and you can turn it off there :)

If you want to turn off the gift wrap option, go to your Etsy shop dashboard and click on Settings > Options > Offer gift wrapping > disable. You can't turn off the 'marked as a gift' option as this just means that if you print the receipt, it doesn't show up the prices. You don't have to do anything to the item just because it is marked as a gift. If you don't print your receipts or order sheets, then this doesn't really matter to you. Hope that helps?

Great video - thank you. I am new to Etsy and received an order marked as a gift. It is a best friend personalised item and two names were listed in the personalisation section (eg Jan & Sue). However, the name above the order and the recipient were both listed as Jan. When I messaged the buyer, I called her Jan, but she said her name was Sue. I couldn't see the name Sue anywhere in the order, apart from in the personalisation section. How do I know the name of the actual buyer, and why would it have Jan listed above the order, when Sue actually placed the order? I'm a bit confused with this, and felt unprofessional calling the buyer the wrong name. Thanks

You can find the buyers name on the order details, it usually has their name at the top.

It's totally up to you :) You could always reach out to your customers and ask if they would like any message added.

This is very helpful. Glad i found this channel. But how about Print On Demand? How is this gonna work? Please send help coz I'm doing POD and got an order marked as gift with message :( Im panicking

I'm not sure how this will work with POD. If it's just marked as a gift, that means you don't need to put any pricing information in the parcel. There is an option on Etsy to turn off gift wrapping and gift messaging if your POD supplier doesn't cater for this :)

great information, thank you for sharing. I wanted to know if a customer places an order then an hour later she places another order is there a way to ship these orders together in order to have only 1 shipping charge and then i could refund her the shipping overcharge?

You definitely could! OR include the shipping cost in your main price, and charge free shipping. This would avoid the need for refunding postage 😊

If you dont offer gift messaging you can turn this off in your shop manager and add this to your desciption.

hi good video - how do you turn off gift mode im not sure how you do it - also someone asked for msg to somoene called jo yet she got it sent to herself and she wanst called jo but also this gift message its a form of personalisation and something we as sellers need to get paid for but etsy never gave us anything extra for doing this gift message its not right just soemthing etsy gets more sales for them yet we have to do more work but not get paid for it

I would still include your branding like you would on a normal order. It could lead to another sale if the recipient loves it :)

Hello, I forgot to add another question to my post below. When you receive an Etsy order marked as a gift with the order being despatched direct to the recipient, and the gift tag message request is: "Merry Christmas Bestie love from me" How will the person receiving the gift know who has sent it? The buyer probably knows the receiver will understand who its from, maybe an in-house joke/saying.
