One thing that really confuses me is skipping back and forth between the Etsy set up and then seeing the Printify screen shot. As I mentioned Im UK based and I think most of my sales will (are) from the USA. Now I have a UK buyer but for the life of me I cannot work out if I need to set up shipping in Etsy or Printify or if I can edit an existing Etsy Listing or do I make changes in Printify. Sorry if this is supposed to be more obvious but I cannot fathom this out. Where I have seen a clue as to the where and how to the options or tabs just aren't on my Etsy listings. Maybe you can clarify this with a simple ABC type of video for complete newbies. I know there are so many folk struggling with this ( FB pages are awash with it! ) Thanks in advance @@PODinsights

Thank you so much for taking time to explain this! I'm grateful. I would like to know how you decide to do free shipping over $35 (do you price that in to your mugs?) and also you said Etsy has a free shipping guarantee. What is that exactly? I'm grateful for your clear explanation of what increases customer bounce rate-- and your explanation of the ratio between the item and the shipping cost. Made sense!
@PODinsights
@PODinsights 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I have a video about the free shipping guarantee and how I factor that in (spoiler: I'm opted into the free shipping guarantee but I still offer free shipping on some items). When you are opted in, Etsy will consider that in ranking your listings in search results (but I don't believe it's a huge impact). Any domestic order that is over $35 before tax gets free shipping - it doesn't impact international orders. I hope this helps! kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4eznKFvbLpngLc

Yes, this was VERY helpful once again. You are great! Do you have any videos talking about shipping and time lines. I have always made and shipped ALL of my products on Etsy but I am trying to get into POD, to ease my load. But so far, I find the shipping times are just horrible. I ALWAYS ship my items within 1 to 2 business days and I don't mind 3 or maybe even 4 days but so far, each and every time I order something from Printify, it takes over a week to ship. My customers are not going to like that. Most people want it yesterday.😏 Do you have any videos that talk more about this or about how to handle shipping times to ensure items get printed in a more timely manner, or is there such a thing?

Great videos! You are a good teacher and get to the point. Question: On an item where you say you switch fulfillment centers to the customer's country of origin, could you do a separate listing for that country only or it is better to keep everything on one site?
@PODinsights
@PODinsights Жыл бұрын
Hi! You could create a duplicate listing with a different shipping profile that indicates the other country for the country of origin and shipping rates based on that print provider. If you remove all other countries from the shipping profile, that listing will only be available to customers with a delivery address in Canada, so essentially it's only available in that market. You definitely can do this if you'd like to have a separate listing for a specific country where you are using a different print provider if you are ok with the extra time to duplicate the listings. Great question!

Awesome video, I like how you break down the strategy! How would you do shipping on multiple mugs/shirts. Do you charge the same shipping price for the second mug or do you charge less? What if someone buys 5 mugs, would you charge shipping 5 times? Would the shipping cost if you charged for each mug cause the customer to change their mind? I haven't sold many multiples so I don't have much experience and I offer free shipping, but I'm thinking of charging shipping because it's so competitive. Thanks!!
@PODinsights
@PODinsights 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I actually discussed an example like this in my video about the free shipping guarantee. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4eznKFvbLpngLc I usually leave the additional item cost in the shipping profile as whatever the print provider had populated in there. The cost for each additional item is almost always less than the first item (in some cases, way less like for stickers). However if you're opted into the free shipping guarantee, eventually you'll hit $35 and it doesn't matter. The key is to make sure that you have enough built-in profit so that by the time you get to that many items, you're not losing much by hitting the free shipping guarantee. For example, when someone buys 3 mugs in the same order, that's enough to go over $35 and get free shipping, but at that point the reduced shipping cost per item helps balance it out and I still make enough profit (I did the exact math in that video). The nice thing about doing free shipping is that you don't have to do any of this LOL which is why I do free shipping if the price of a product allows me to still be competitive.

Just subscribed and binging through your videos. Great channel and content. Thank you very much! One question if I may. Following your example... if you select a British print provider for your mug that you want to sell in the UK, how do you know customers there are going to see THAT listing and not the other one you made for the US customers? Do you know if Etsy automatically prioritizes items that have a local, regional or at least close by print provider?

Thank you so much for all your wonderful video's they have been very helpful! I do wonder if you are able to possibly explain to me why it seems like shipping gets paid TWICE with Etsy and Printify? I pay obviously for shipping when Printify full fills the order but the customer pays for shipping upfront when their order is placed but doesn't seem to reflect that in profit ( I don't do free shipping in my Etsy store) which then eats a ton of my profit, or at least appears that way. Could you possibly explain this in laymen terms for me?
@PODinsights
@PODinsights 5 ай бұрын
On Etsy, your shipping profiles control how much the customer pays for shipping. If you are charging the customer the correct amount for shipping, then it will not impact your profit. Shipping is essentially the same as the product itself - the customer pays Etsy, which pays you, and then you pay Printify. You receive what the customer paid for shipping in your Etsy seller account, minus the Etsy fee of course.

The store is for jewellery should I provide free shipping or apply one of the strategies you talk off? Thanks for all of your help. Regards, Rahul.
@PODinsights

Hi! If you are going to sell primarily in the US and want your prices to be exact amounts in USD, you could change your shop currency. This should allow you to set pricing in USD so for a US customer they will display the way you entered them vs. being converted. You can do this by going on your seller dashboard to Finances > Payment Settings > Currency. You can have your product listings only visible in US-based search results by removing all countries from your shipping profiles except for the US, as long as it will ship from within the US. If the origin country of the product is going to be outside the US, then you'll have to include a domestic shipping method for the origin country as well as the US. Free shipping vs. charging for shipping is entirely up to you, if you think the price of your product would look too high when you add the cost of shipping into the product price, then charging for shipping would be appropriate. But if the product price would still look relatively competitive with the shipping cost included, then offering free shipping would make sense because customers like to see free shipping and it makes administration of your shop more simple because you don't have to worry about products being combined in a single order that have different shipping costs.

Great video. I sold one sweatshirt to the us and pain shipping. Wow I made one dollar. Rethinking things and wondering if it is a good thing to include the price of shipping because then etsy takes a bigger cut. Then making sure my price is consistent for US and EU. I am selling from France and not understanding why Printify shows the prices in USD even though my setting are in Euro? It makes me crazy trying to figure out a fair competitive price and have one listing for both. As in EU most people are ok with paying shipping? How do i figure this on Excell? I havent found a video to teach an expat/digital nomad how to sell from anywhere with a customer base in the US...Did I miss something in my shop set up. Newbe opened 2 weeks ago.

Super helpful info on pricing strategies! Is 35% profit margin what you generally shoot for?
@PODinsights
@PODinsights Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I generally start with 30% as my target and then move up or down slightly depending on competition and what seems like a "reasonable" price if I put myself in the customer's shoes. Sometimes you'll get lucky and find a product that supports 35-40%, and that can help balance your overall profitability if you have other products where you can only get 25-28%.

I am getting hit with transaction fees and exchange rate. and US tax and VAT which I haven't figured in yet. I feel my price in EU is difficult to calculate with a competitive price as I prefer on listing per item. Sorry maybe I am being too complex. Maybe it is best to list by country seperately.

If the US provider is fully stocked, Printify will send the mug from the US to a UK based Customer? thank you

Hi! You can use a US print provider if the total cost for an order shipping to Canada is lower than the Canada print providers, however one thing you have to keep in mind is that an order shipped from the US will take much longer to arrive because it has to go through customs. I personally prefer to have orders fulfilled in Canada for customers located in Canada and I just charge a higher shipping price than the US, because customers may be frustrated with the longer shipping times if the order ships from the US.

@PODinsights
@PODinsights Жыл бұрын
Hi! It depends on what product you are looking for. Here is the print provider page for Prima Printing that shows all the products they currently offer through Printify: printify.com/app/print-provider/66/prima-printing If you have an existing product listing in your My Products page that Prima offers and you want to switch fulfillment to them, you can use the Replace feature to do that. If you only want to create a draft with Prima to fulfill on individual orders, then create a copy of your existing listing first and then use the Replace feature on the copy.

I've tried setting up listings on Etsy fulfilled by Prinify. I've said yes to the auto rerouting option to keep things simple to start with, but when I look at the listing on Esty the UK shipping shows as being shipped from the US at huge cost, not the rerouted fulfillment in the UK/Europe with the associated lower shipping cost. It's so confusing. What am I doing wrong?
@PODinsights
@PODinsights Жыл бұрын
Hi! Etsy only allows one shipping profile per listing, and each shipping profile can only have one origin country and postal code, so customers in all countries will see the same information about the origin country. The auto-routing feature on Printify will automatically place the order with a print provider located in the customer's country if one is available, but that is a back-end thing only after the order comes in and does not change anything about the shipping profile that was published in the listing. I personally sell in the US primarily but also sell in Canada, the UK, and Australia. My shipping profiles all have US as the origin country but I've changed the shipping prices to the other countries to align with what I'm actually going to pay using my preferred print provider in those countries. Ultimately it would be better if the listing could show the other countries as the origin country too, but the only way to do that would be to create duplicate listings for the product and assign different shipping profiles to each one. I actually made a video recently where I cover this issue a bit more in depth too: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fF6oZGuri8qcm68

You mention Sale Samurai and Alura. What is the difference as they serve the same purpose?
@PODinsights
@PODinsights Жыл бұрын
Hi! There are many Etsy research tools available. Sale Samurai, Alura, eRank, Marmalead, everBee, InsightFactory, and probably a couple others I'm forgetting. I've used all the ones mentioned except Marmalead. Each one has some differences in the tools & resources that they offer and their pricing. Some tools focus on giving you data on estimated monthly search volume for keywords and analysis of tags and competitor listings (eRank, Sale Samurai) and others focus on giving you "best seller" rankings based on estimated sales volumes intended to help you identify niches. I prefer the tools that focus on search volume for keyword phrases and tags. Alura has some nice features (their free resources are great - the Etsy fee calculator and privacy policy generator) and they recently added automated email marketing, I just prefer the search data provided by Sale Samurai so that is my current first choice. I believe the best thing to do is to use free trials or free accounts when available to see which one is a good fit for your strategy and workflows.

@PODinsights 3 ай бұрын
When Printify publishes a shipping profile with your listing, it's going to just use the actual shipping charge for that item, but what you do from there is all up to you. You can leave it alone and ignore the message from Etsy, or you can change your product price to include some of the shipping cost. Either way, you receive the same amount. Example: $9.99 mug price + $9 shipping = $18.99. You can also do $13.99 mug price + $5 shipping = $18.99. As long as you're receiving the total that you need to hit your profit goal, you can set the product & shipping price to any combination that you think will be appealing to customers.

Hi! Hi! If your shipping profile is set to be a flat price, you should not have to enter weight and package size information. It will require that info if the profile is set as "calculate for me" based on the customer's location. That's too much to ask someone to pay, so I drop the price of shipping by about $2.00 for Canadians which cuts my profit on the bags. The manufacturer of the tote bags is ships from Germany. It only costs Americans $7.50 in shipping. I don't understand why the cost of shipping is so much more for Canada.

I am a Canadian as well. Shipping in Canada is expensive period for Canadians. Saying this, you asked why? We just don’t have the same resources so shipping from Germany to Canada would be in sane. Plus Germany I believe has other laws like packaging. Why ship from Germany to Canada? There isn’t an option to ship to Canada from a Canadian supplier? Just curious

You mention shipping for Mugs but did not specify which size because i dont think it would cost the same to ship the 11 oz and the 15 oz mug and if you are charging 12.99 for the mug and 3.99 to ship isnt that still $16.99 with free shipping?
@PODinsights
@PODinsights Жыл бұрын
Hi! That price is for the 11oz size. It's all about getting the total price that you need to get your profit goal, whether it's free shipping or product + shipping. So you're correct, for my 11oz mugs $16.99 is the total price that I want to get for my target profit. I choose to do a small shipping charge because it makes the mug price appear more competitive in search results than if the total shipping cost was built into the price. I also sell 15oz mugs and I include that size as an option in the same listings with 11oz mugs, and the shipping cost is higher as you mentioned. Because you can only have one shipping profile per listing, the shipping price in my listing is the same for both sizes so I just build more of the shipping cost into the price of the 15oz mug and charge $16.99 plus shipping. I hope that helps!

Do you have to create separate listings with different pricing and shipping profile for international? So confused :(
@PODinsights
@PODinsights Жыл бұрын
Hi! You do not need to create separate listings to sell the same product in different countries, but the shipping profile is the only way that you can control the total price that customers in other countries will pay. So if your cost to fulfill an order for another country is significantly higher, the only way you can make up this difference is in the shipping charge you have in your shipping profile for that country. For example, if my product price is $20 USD for a t-shirt and my total cost to fulfill in the US is $12, but my total cost to fulfill the same order in Canada is $18, then the only way to make up that difference and keep my profit the same is to charge more for shipping in Canada because the product price is still $20 USD. You don't need to make any other changes or create separate listings as long as you're collecting the total amount you need through the shipping + product price. I hope that helps!

@@PODinsights ok but how do I sent two shipping profiles for one listing ? Is there a special tab or box I have to check for ‘all other countries’? Or like one for Canada and Australia ? All I have is the domestic option

Do you mean when selling the same item from two different production locations?

In your shipping profile, you should see an option that says "Add Location". You can add additional shipping destinations with different shipping prices.

I don't get the VAT part. You say that if someone in Europe order from the US, then you have to pay the VAT part, right ? I live in Europe and If I buy something in the US and get it shipped to Europe, then I have to pay the VAT and not you. I think I misunderstand you, right ?
@PODinsights
@PODinsights Жыл бұрын
Hi! Actually, when that happens, we BOTH pay end up paying VAT. You pay VAT as the customer in the retail transaction, and I pay VAT because I'm not a registered business with a VAT exemption in Europe but Printify is. Printify has to charge me VAT unless I have an exemption (not sure the exact term for it in Europe - in the US it's called a resale certificate). Sales tax in the US works the same way. Printify will charge us sales tax in most US states unless we file a resale certificate (which I have because my business is registered in the US). I hope that helps!
