Thanks so much for this video! I needed this. Can you do a video on the sales part of things? Like how the money flow works from the time someone orders to where you get your profit and factor in taxes, fees, etc.
@CassiyJohnson
@CassiyJohnson Жыл бұрын
I'll make a video on this real soon for sure! Here's some info though for you for right now When you first start on Etsy, they put your account "on reserves" to make sure you are a legit seller for the first 90 days. So they keep a portion of your sales until the item ships. They also will only pay you once per week at this point. After 90 days, they will let you take daily payments instead. When you get an order, Etsy takes out the etsy fees and then gives you the difference. Printify then charges YOUR CARD for the cost of the item and shipping, and you get to keep the difference. So you either need a credit card, that way you have time to get the payments from Etsy before having to pay the bill, or you need to start with a few hundred dollars. Because there are a few different things to buy to start like a few nice mockups and design software to make the designs. Then at the end of the year, you just pay taxes on the profit that you made after all expenses. I would set aside about 30% of your profit per month for taxes!

Can you do a video about managing your listings? When should we renew them or get rid of it? How many listings per design should I do? How many listings should I have in my shop?
@CassiyJohnson
@CassiyJohnson Жыл бұрын
I let my items renew 2-3 times without selling before I change them to manual renewal so they will just expire at the end of that 4 months. As for how many listings per design, I normally do 2-3 for sweatshirts, 2-3 for t-shirts and then if it makes sense, a mug and a tote bag. As for how many listings in your shop, this is kind of a never ending quest to find as many best sellers as you can. The most I've had in my shop is 4k listings! So I'd say just as many as you can lol You constantly have to be finding new trends, new niches and new design styles to stay up to date on what's selling right now.

Hi Cassiy, I have been watching your videos for several months and love the detail you use in all of them! I have learned so much from you, but I am a little confused about the profit margin when people give discounts on t-shirts. I noticed the majority of sellers add a sale in their listings. Your videos I watched didn't mention what to do if a sale is added on and how we fill out the calculator when that is done? Do we up the profit margin or up the price. My research was on Retro Halloween Nurse Shirts. Thank you!

I love your videos! ❤ Thank you for sharing all your amazing tips and helpful advice! You've really helped me a lot so far, but I'm still having difficulty with pricing some of my items. I'm in Canada, so please bear with me as I try to explain my dilemma. As an example, I'll use the Gilden sweatshirt. They are currently approx. $16 US each. Convert that to Canada and they are $20. Add to that the tax (I'm purchasing from a Canadian provider - Duplium so they charge 13%), and that comes to $22.60. Add to that their shipping charge $13.06 (again, convertered to Canadian - as all of Printify's currency, no matter where the location of the printer is in US $. Add to that Canadian government sales tax 13% = $40.22. Add to that Etsy's fees = (6.5% + 3.5%) = $46.33. Plus - we can't forget my markup - - I'd LIKE to make $25 per shirt, but that would put my sweatshirt at approximately $71.00. Oh, and I still need to add another 13% to the customer to pay for my own taxes. So that sweatshirt is now $80. Of course, I could lower my profit to a measley $10.00 and sell my shirt for $65. But the price for the Gilden sweatshirt is still awfully high. So, I just don't understand how so many shops out there are able to sell their sweatshirts for so little. Maybe they didn't factor in all the hidden costs and are essentially "losing their shirt" over it!! LOL! (I couldn't resist)! But...do you see where I'm coming from?? It's a big struggle to come up with a price, and as much as I would like to think that my designs are worth me asking for $25 profit for me, I don't know...who in their right mind would pay $80 for a sweatshirt?? Do you have any advice - am I missing something here? 🤔

Hey Charlene, I’m in a similar boat to you except I’m in Australia and using Duplium coz Aussie printers don’t rate so well. From my calculations I have to price coffee mugs at $40 or cad$36.00. The average price here in Oz is up to $28. Somethings gotta be wrong somewhere.

@@ForTheGreys Yep, you can. Not sure where you're selling from (Etsy)? But ya, as a Canadian, you can use the American Printers. But it's not going to be profitable if you're selling to Canadians. But if you're a Canadian Seller, and you want to target American buyers, by all means, use the American Printers.

Sales tax is separate. And since Etsy collects the money for the product and sales tax for the Etsy Seller, they also pay the tax to the state for the Seller. They then take out their fees and give the Seller the remainder.

Thank you for the fantastic information. Your videos are super helpful. One question I still had was shipping. On printify it does show the profit margin, but I'm assuming that doesn't include the shipping cost, correct? Which was something you didn't mention. The shipping on some of the products I am looking at is priced at $10 to even $20 depending on the product. Does that mean I need to either add this in the etsy listing and have the customer pay or add it to the price- and do free shipping on the etsy listing? What are your suggestions for this issue?

This was a great tutorial to watch. I had to subscribe for what you shared and your presentation. The discouraging part is knowing they will take money from my account for the purchase. And then give me my profit. I was expecting it to be the other way around 😢

It seems scary at first, but you still only spend money after someone purchases! There are other platforms that do more of what you were expecting like Amazon Merch On Demand!

I opened my shop in 2020 i have made just under 100 sales there but i haven’t been active on it for few months now. I wanna get back into pod but i don’t know if i should open a new shop or start uploading again to the shop i already have. Any advise will be great! thank you so much!

Hi Cassiy, LOVE your videos! You explain everything so well and I'm thankful I found your channel. My question is about shipping profiles on Etsy. Do you have a video that explains how to set this up for POD? I just opened a small jewelry shop on Etsy but and in the process of setting up a POD shop as well. I understand how to set up shipping profiles for my jewelry shop because I am the one shipping the items, but when it comes to POD I am completely confused. I'm not understanding how to info gets from Etsy to Printify, to the print provider, and what the sellers role is in all of that. Any tips are appreciated as always!!

Cassity - I'm a new browser of your videos. I've started watching some of them and begun taking some steps towards freedom. Do you, by chance, have a more consolidated video or series of videos which goes over step by step what we need to do to construct our business?

Hi Cassiy - your videos are amazing! One question: what is your profit margin, in general? For example, you say you made $500,000 in gross sales in one video - but how much of that is profit? I need to know this to decide if I can do this full time or not. Thank you!
@SWEETUMS101
@SWEETUMS101 9 ай бұрын
Hi, not sure if you got your answer already, but I’ve been watching several videos (the interviews) and I believe the profit you get is 1/3 the gross, with the other money going to Etsy, the printing partner and the cost of maintaining all the software. So if someone made $100,000 in “sales”, their actual take home pay is $30k. Hope this helps. 💕

Sure I can likely do a video on this in the future but every website that has graphics is going to have different rules, so just make sure whatever you are using, to check the commercial license that you get with it to understand what you can and cannot do with the graphics.

Hi Cassie! Thanks so much for the amazing video. I was just wondering how shipping costs on individual etsy items works? For example, if you set the shipping cost as $8, does Etsy provide you with this money on top of the item's cost (minus etsy fees), and therefore the total profit increases by $8? Thanks so much!
@CassiyJohnson
@CassiyJohnson Жыл бұрын
Yes you get the full cost of the item plus shipping that the customer paid minus Etsy fees, so wether you include the shipping price within your item or charge for it separate, it is all the same!

Hi there! Thanks for your help and inspiration! What would you recommend pricing a multiple sweatshirt order at?
@CassiyJohnson
@CassiyJohnson Жыл бұрын
All depends on your cost, I'd make a sample order for the amount you need from the print provider you are using in the colors they want. See what it costs including shipping. Then decide how much of a discount you would want to give to still make a good profit!

You seem to know just the kind of questions I need answered! Thank you! Is there any reason you don't work with Awkward Styles? I remember that video where you reviewed shirts from different print providers and they were one of the best. Is it to keep cost low since they are a little bit pricier than others?
@CassiyJohnson
@CassiyJohnson Жыл бұрын
Yes they do a great print but they are more expensive and have less colors to choose from. I have had great experiences with Monster Digital and Swift Pod and the price difference is really drastic when you multiply it by 1000's of orders. But they are great quality for sure!

Hi Cassiy, another great video. I always look forward to them. I'm curious if you have a video on how to use Sale Samurai? I'm always confused on what I'm looking at in the keyword section. And Thier video is outdated as in thier screen doesn't look the same as mine. Also, I thought you once had said we need to use an off white when we print on black but I'm not sure if I'm correct on that. Can you point me to that video? Unless I'm 🤪 and remembering it wrong. Thanks so much! Also I will be scheduling a 1 on 1 with you soon

Here is a video I did on using Sale Samurai! kzbin.info/www/bejne/rnOxe3djrsitoZo I mainly just use them for the search function within the chrome extension to see how many searches different search terms get per month. I actually just ordered samples for a YT video to show the difference between white, a doubled up design and the three recommend off whites. So I'll post a video about that once I get the samples in. Here are the three off-whites that Printify recommended using #FCFCFC; #FEFEFB and #F5F5F5

Cassiy, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us! I am just getting started and I am still confused about pricing. Do I add the shipping cost to my total price when doing print on demand items from Printify or does the consumer pay for that separately? I know you touched on it in this video but I am still not clear how to price exactly.

Do you change the pricing based on the color of the sweatshirt? Also, since you are including shipping cost in your production cost, are you then offering free shipping for your customers? I've been putting mine cheaper for white since it's the cheapest in production costs, and then every other color the price is the same per size. I hope this makes sense lol. Just trying to figure out if it would be better to list per color instead. I've been listing my shirts and sweatshirts the same price for S-XL and adding a dollar or so for my 2XL-5XL options. Thank you for all of the information on your channel! I've been going down the rabbit hole and I've learned so much, even though I definitely thought I knew what I was doing lmao!

Thank you. I have purchased the spreadsheet. A very valuable tool! Well worth the investment and a "software" tax write off. Just one thing that needs clarification please. You mentioned that you like to test your pricing based on size XL, but when demonstrating the spreadsheet, you mentioned that you price all shirt options based "on the most expensive of the variants that I choose" which suggest that you calculate based on 5XL instead? Can you clarify this?
@CassiyJohnson
@CassiyJohnson Жыл бұрын
I meant the most expensive of the three variants in size XL. I price Small - XL the same and then raise my prices by $1-$2 more per size above that.

Cassiy thank you for these videos, I just completed watching your get started program on your web site. Who pays for the printing and is everything free shipping?
@pat4005
@pat4005 8 ай бұрын
The Seller pays fir the printing. It may take a few days or so before you get your money from the sale of the item, from Etsy, so that is why they say you may need a credit card if you integrate your Etsy shop directly with a POD. If you don't integrate your Etsy shop with a POD, then you have to make the order manually. You may or may not choose to wait until you get your money for the sale from Etsy before you manually place an order. You choose whether you want to offer free shipping on an item. But then you have to be sure that you add your shipping cost into the sales price that you charge for the item or you will loose that money.
