Thanks so much for this video! I needed this. Can you do a video on the sales part of things? Like how the money flow works from the time someone orders to where you get your profit and factor in taxes, fees, etc.
@CassiyJohnson2 жыл бұрын
I'll make a video on this real soon for sure! Here's some info though for you for right now When you first start on Etsy, they put your account "on reserves" to make sure you are a legit seller for the first 90 days. So they keep a portion of your sales until the item ships. They also will only pay you once per week at this point. After 90 days, they will let you take daily payments instead. When you get an order, Etsy takes out the etsy fees and then gives you the difference. Printify then charges YOUR CARD for the cost of the item and shipping, and you get to keep the difference. So you either need a credit card, that way you have time to get the payments from Etsy before having to pay the bill, or you need to start with a few hundred dollars. Because there are a few different things to buy to start like a few nice mockups and design software to make the designs. Then at the end of the year, you just pay taxes on the profit that you made after all expenses. I would set aside about 30% of your profit per month for taxes!

Can you do a video about managing your listings? When should we renew them or get rid of it? How many listings per design should I do? How many listings should I have in my shop?
@CassiyJohnson2 жыл бұрын
I let my items renew 2-3 times without selling before I change them to manual renewal so they will just expire at the end of that 4 months. As for how many listings per design, I normally do 2-3 for sweatshirts, 2-3 for t-shirts and then if it makes sense, a mug and a tote bag. As for how many listings in your shop, this is kind of a never ending quest to find as many best sellers as you can. The most I've had in my shop is 4k listings! So I'd say just as many as you can lol You constantly have to be finding new trends, new niches and new design styles to stay up to date on what's selling right now.

I love your videos! ❤ Thank you for sharing all your amazing tips and helpful advice! You've really helped me a lot so far, but I'm still having difficulty with pricing some of my items. I'm in Canada, so please bear with me as I try to explain my dilemma. As an example, I'll use the Gilden sweatshirt. They are currently approx. $16 US each. Convert that to Canada and they are $20. Add to that the tax (I'm purchasing from a Canadian provider - Duplium so they charge 13%), and that comes to $22.60. Add to that their shipping charge $13.06 (again, convertered to Canadian - as all of Printify's currency, no matter where the location of the printer is in US $. Add to that Canadian government sales tax 13% = $40.22. Add to that Etsy's fees = (6.5% + 3.5%) = $46.33. Plus - we can't forget my markup - - I'd LIKE to make $25 per shirt, but that would put my sweatshirt at approximately $71.00. Oh, and I still need to add another 13% to the customer to pay for my own taxes. So that sweatshirt is now $80. Of course, I could lower my profit to a measley $10.00 and sell my shirt for $65. But the price for the Gilden sweatshirt is still awfully high. So, I just don't understand how so many shops out there are able to sell their sweatshirts for so little. Maybe they didn't factor in all the hidden costs and are essentially "losing their shirt" over it!! LOL! (I couldn't resist)! But...do you see where I'm coming from?? It's a big struggle to come up with a price, and as much as I would like to think that my designs are worth me asking for $25 profit for me, I don't know...who in their right mind would pay $80 for a sweatshirt?? Do you have any advice - am I missing something here? 🤔
@geoffauckett2330 Жыл бұрын
Hey Charlene, I’m in a similar boat to you except I’m in Australia and using Duplium coz Aussie printers don’t rate so well. From my calculations I have to price coffee mugs at $40 or cad$36.00. The average price here in Oz is up to $28. Somethings gotta be wrong somewhere.

@@ForTheGreys Yep, you can. Not sure where you're selling from (Etsy)? But ya, as a Canadian, you can use the American Printers. But it's not going to be profitable if you're selling to Canadians. But if you're a Canadian Seller, and you want to target American buyers, by all means, use the American Printers.

I watched all the way through and when you got to the end of this video I was sitting there thinking, my bank account is going to be upside down all the time. If I am having $38 taken out for a sweatshirt. Because that might be the cost that it’s going to cost to print it ship it and the T-shirt itself. And Etsy only gives me the profit Back to my bank account. Which is nine dollars. What happens to that $25 or so that came out of my checking account and never is coming back in. Am I off my rocker or does this make any sense? I just see myself being upside down because the cost is more than the profit on every purchase. Also, say I start my Etsy shop and I only have $100 in the bank because I’m on Social Security and for some crazy reason I managed to sell 100 T-shirts overnight. And I don’t have any money in my bank account to cover the cost. What do you about that situation?

Just a quick question I have seen many sellers who charge different for different colors? The price of white is different from the red one's. Does printify cost different for different colors? If it's red shirt and xs it would be different from if it's black shirt and xs? How to price in such case Looking forward to your response
@CassiyJohnson2 жыл бұрын
Yes I show you that in this video, different colors cost different amounts. I like to price my item and all of the colors at the same price based off of the most expensive color.

If Printify prices are around $15 for a t-shirt and around $5 for shipping, how are other sellers pricing their t-shirt for XL $14? They are not making any profit, right? I'm confused.
@pat4005 Жыл бұрын
If you read about many of these other sellers on their Etsy page info about their shop, sometimes you can figure out if they are also actually printing their own shirts, etc. I have come across this when I looked deeper into some very successful Etsy shops. A few have YT channels, and don't make it very clear that they print their own shirts. They may say something just once in a video (when talking about how much they have sold in dollars or made in profit), and they may slip and say something about their "team", or their "facility" or even "warehouse". Sometimes if you can find their Etsy shop, you can read the info about how they started their shop and they may mention later in the info that their "team" uses a particular way of printing (such a Direct-To-Garment), or some other printing method and they mean that THEY DO THE SHIRT PRINTING IN THEIR OWN SHOP. THEY NOT USE A POD. So they will be able to sell at a lower price on Etsy because they control the whole process and buy their shirts, printing supplies and shipping supplies wholesale and can be then much more competitive on Etsy compared to sellers using POD to fulfill their orders.

What should the general profit margin be on a shirt or sweatshirt as a percentage in your experience

Problem is I'm european selling to the US market. It's kinda hard to price sometimes when the currency exchange rate fluxuates, printify prices change and taxing.
@CassiyJohnson2 жыл бұрын
Yes it can be complicated to sell internationally! I have chosen to only sell in the US to make it simple and to only have to check trademarks for one country. The US is the largest market of people shopping on Etsy so something to consider if you are feeling overwhelmed.

@@CassiyJohnson Yep i have almost 400 sales, mostly US. My profits per sale vary so much from 3$ to 12$ because of the pricing and different currency.

Could I ask which card you're using for less fees? Since you're from EU they must charge you fees since you're exchanging the currency. Thanks

When you figure the Etsy profit calculator were you using your printify premium prices? Or regular prices without premium?
@jodicravens70392 жыл бұрын
Thank you, thank you for the great information… just for clarification, you set one price for all sizes and colors of sweatshirt? I’ve been setting a profit amount per item, which makes the price different for various sizes and colors…. But it makes sense to set one single price. 🤔
@CassiyJohnson2 жыл бұрын
I do the same price for Small - XL and then raise the price for 2XL and above by $1 - $2 each. But I do make each color the same price so it's simple for the customer!

Hi Cassiy - your videos are amazing! One question: what is your profit margin, in general? For example, you say you made $500,000 in gross sales in one video - but how much of that is profit? I need to know this to decide if I can do this full time or not. Thank you!
@SWEETUMS101 Жыл бұрын
Hi, not sure if you got your answer already, but I’ve been watching several videos (the interviews) and I believe the profit you get is 1/3 the gross, with the other money going to Etsy, the printing partner and the cost of maintaining all the software. So if someone made $100,000 in “sales”, their actual take home pay is $30k. Hope this helps. 💕

Hi Cassiy, I'm still a bit confused and hope you can help. So, lets say you are selling a Medium black sweater with production and shipping is 25.88. Then you list it for 42.00 plus 6.00 shipping. When you do your calculation on profit from etsy do you then say its 42.00 plus the 6.00 for shipping then minus the actual cost which was 25.88 and that is your profit? Very lost and I want to make sure I make a profit. I have read the comments but just dont get it.
@CassiyJohnson Жыл бұрын
No problem! Yes you take your total cost of $25.88 and then your total sales price of 48. Then take out Etsy fees as well, and you are left with your profit!

I am confused. I thought they would deposit my profit and that's all. I didn't know they would take anything out of my account beside the fees for listing it. Why are they taking the amount of the shirt out of the account when the seller is buying it?

What confuses me is when someone places an order, will I be charged my own money for it to be shipped then I get the profit from the sale after? Or does Etsy/Printful use the money paid by the customer to ship the item and just keep the profit for me in my Etsy account?

Hi Cassiy, Thank you for the great videos...very informative! Just wondering, starting out...how much do you think I would need to have available on my credit card for the production company to charge me? I know there are a lot of variables...so I'm not asking for anything set in stone. Do you think $1000 to start will work?

When we publish a listing to etsy, should we choose the “hide from store” option first to fill everything in on etsy and then make it visible when the full listing is ready or should we do everything in printify and publish it visibly right to etsy? Thank you for all of your videos I watch every one 💗

if you're going to work on your etsy listing right after publishing it's fine to publish without hiding - but if you won't get to it for 3+ hours or until the next day, hide from store so it goes to your drafts instead of automatically publishing - "You want to click “Hide in Store to make sure your new product won’t automatically publish to your Etsy storefront - instead, it will be waiting for you to finesse the Etsy listing a bit in your Listing Drafts folder"
@CassiyJohnson2 жыл бұрын
I do the title, description and price on Printify and then just publish to visible on Etsy. Then I just right then go change the mockups and add the tags. If you can't get to this point until later, then you could change it to not visible if you wanted. Best of luck!
