It’s not a magic trick so I don’t know why “gurus” have to dance around it. Psych is the key to everything. Take it seriously, teach it clearly and with passion, and you’re teaching makers how to “fish”, and be able to make for a lifetime.

You did mention the reason why so few Americans have passports (approx 40%) is because your country is so big but Canada is bigger and approximately 70% have passports here. I think it has more to do with the diversity of places contained within the USA and not the size.

Hi Starla, I have just found your channel, I have a couple of questions based on my Etsy shop. I guess you get so many of the same questions, but as an artist selling only originals and prints, I have only ever gained 5 sales since 2019, I question paying 20c on 44 listings 3 times a year, is the effort worth the trouble, given all the hoops Etsy puts sellers through. So many videos. coming out slating Etsy's continued changes often for the worse. I wonder, should, I continue and try a little more time or close the shop. best wishes Paul

Totally agree with the Halo effect, and have seen that it can have a strong negative effect when reversed. For example, if I'm seeing 2 different product listings side by side, I'll IMMEDIATELY click past the one who has decided to use a half-clad female body as their display prop. It always feels very sleazy that they are using that to get attention to their product.

🧙‍♀️ Re storytelling: my hunch is that the advice to be the wizard guide character and not the hero seems right (can’t remember who that’s from). When people tell us to create a brand story it feels obvious that we take people along on a journey with us as the hero, facing and overcoming challenges etc. But you should place the customer as the hero and you as the Gandalf/Merlin type character. I’m not quite sure how to put this into practice in Instagram posts though 😂

Speaking of psychology, a lot of the usual tactics aren’t necessarily comfortable for autistic people. We also don’t usually respond the same way, which makes learning the psychology very difficult. I am getting started on the toolbox, but as someone who prefers reading vs videos, I jumped to the pdf file about all the messages to the buyer. That many messages every single step of the way would make me massively uncomfortable as a buyer who then wouldn’t feel comfortable reviewing because I’d likely receive another message. Why so many messages? Is that what most neurotypical people really like to receive? I’m not sure how I’d even manage to keep up sending all of those if I ever did end up selling big. How does one avoid upsetting people like me while still appealing to everyone? Note, I’ve worked customer service for 18 years, but for big companies not having been able to dedicate time to my own art or business.

Another thing the gurus, teaching POD, tell people p, is to run sales, lots and lots of sales. The way they teach that is really not even legal to do. They run sales all the time. I always thought that was weird, and always questioned how confident they were in their products that they run a constant sale…I guess I was on the right track, psychologically, with thinking that. 🤔
